Mavs are done. Crazy. There's gonna be a big shake up in Dallas for next year. I'm rootin for the Cavs myself. Not that I'm a big fan but, that's what I'd like to see win.
I want to see the warriors go further but I doubt they will go all the way. They'll meet up against say the suns and get crushed. They even get beat by Houstan (who I think wil ltake out the Jazz). I am not the biggest fan but I like the playoffs because that is when the teams actually play defense. Based then on defense...it is gonna be very hard to stop the Spurs
^^Rockets won't beat the Jazz, and either way the Warriors don't match up as well against Houston or Utah as they did Dallas, oddly enough. I'd like to say the Warriors are going to move deep into the playoffs being a Dallas fan whose team was crushed by the Warriors. But I think it's more likely they put up a decent but pointless fight in the next round against a better team, taller.
I think it will be Spurs-Pistons again. But I will say this: Utah is the dark horse in the west. That team plays tough defense and has great inside-outside options. They could really give teams fits in the later rounds.
The Warriors really impressed me and I wouldn't be surprised if they took the Rockets/Jazz to seven games or made the conference finals. Still, they'll never get by the Suns/Spurs. Personally, I'd love to see things get shaken up and have the Suns and Bulls make the finals, but who knows.

Spurs have been my team since I was a lil tyke! I was obsessed with David Robinson growing up, best center ever! Anyway, Yeah....the Spurs are going to take this easily!
Gotta chime in about how important it was for the Cavs to win the second seed in the East.
Now da Bulls and Pistons can beat on each other(hopefully for a full 7 intense games) while we have it out with the Nets. Not gonna be as easy as the Arenas-free Wizards were(first sweep in Cavs playoff history!).
Got tickets for Tuesday night at the Q---yeeehaawww.
Anybody else having their drinking binges magnified by the playoffs ? I woke up hanging this morning, but can't wait for Bloody Mary Time. Gotta be looose by 1pm tipoff !

To be honest with you, I don't get THAT excited for the NBA playoffs as I do for College football or March Madness. I enjoy the pros, but I dont really watch the regular season, and I definitely don't get inebriated for the games, that's strictly for College football, cause I'm an obsessed crazy college football fan.

Witness bitches...
Ha...I really think you're overestimating how much "beating up" the Bulls and Pistons will do on each other. The Pistons are a much better team than the Bulls. And I don't want to hate on the Cavs, but it's pretty clear the Nets play as a team far better than the Cavs do at this point in time. The Cavs have to win homecourt, otherwise I see the Nets taking the series 6 or 7 games deep and maybe even winning. Lebron's definitely the best player in the series, but sometimes that's not enough.
I guess i say "beating up" just cuz i expect it to be the roughest matchup in the east so far. I find it integral that the cavs won't have to play the Pistons until the next round(hopefully).
Certainly not taking the Nets for granted. They played tough yesterday, even though both teams played rather slopfully. Hopefully, it was just rustiness from the Cavs' break after round one.
If you'd have asked me about the Cav's chances at the All-Star break, I'd have deferred and said, "They simply are not playing like a second round playoff team". However, with the momentum gained entering the playoffs and stealing away the coveted second seed from the Bulls, I have upgraded my expectations.
On the contrary, I think the Cavs have bolstered their team play immeasureably. Early in the year, all a decent team had to do was double/triple team LeBron and we were choked off. Since the addition of Larry Hughes to the starting line-up, we have been HOT HOT HOT. Sasha Pavlovic is turning back on(after a cool series against the wizards). Gooden has stepped up. Andy Varejao is Lion Hearted. And Ilgauskus adds to everyone's percentage with his tip-ability.
If it weren't for Snow's heads up defense, i'd say get rid of him and Donyell Marshall for a quick young forward next year. Marshall shows up more baked for the games than I do !
Anyhow, sorry to list it all out, but I feel the Cavs are deeper than they have been in years. That's what the whole first half of the season was about for them-finding their oats. Now they are beginning to gel. I love some of the passing happening on the sly between LeBron, Z, and Varejao especially. We almost squeaked one out against the Pistons last year. We SHOULD be less beat up this year when/if we meet 'em.
Go East anyway, that's for sure.

Being from Michigan I am obviously in cahoots with the Pistons organization, so I think its gonna be another Pistons/Spurs final probably. And beating the living s*it out of the Bulls the other day helped our starters because they got to rest up (that being the main reason we didnt go all the way last year, Chauncey was dead tired towards the end of the series and so were most of our starters). I think the Bulls series will be interesting but im only seeing it go 5 games (especially if things go like they did in game 1).
Also, glad to see Mavericks out of the West because that was really the only team i felt nervous about in the west. Spurs are good but I think we got their number this year with Webber adding ball control and movement to the PIStons. Suns have no defense so im not concerned with them either. As for the rest of the teams, I dont see much to talk about anyways.

I felt relatively confident that Detroit would win this series (amidst the late rush of pro-chicago hype being built up by the national media right before it started) but by no means did I think the Pistons would absolutely dismantle the Bulls like they have. I haven't seen Detroit play this good since the finals in 04 when they were crushing the invincible Lakers.
That said, it really doesn't mean that much. Series like these can turn on a dime. All Chicago has to do is come out and play their usual good defense, hit their jumpers, and win game 3 and it's a series again. What really shocked me last night was the rebounding situation. Chicago was #1 in the regular season, but they got outrebounded 51-30!
Overall, a great day for Detroit sports with this win and the Wings advancing, but it was dampened by the news that Joel Zumaya would be out for 12 weeks with his finger injury. Ouch!!
Wellllll, even IF detroit takes the East, basketball season will be over soon enough. That's when all Michigan pro sports fans will go back to being college fans. No overly zealous Tigers or Lions fans as of late I've noticed. (just gotta talk a little smack while my Indians are still atop MLB).
Back on topic, there is some GREAT basketball left to come. I love me some NBA playoffs. Talk about re-injecting some passion into a loooong season ! I'll be at the Q tonight hoping to see the cavs keep the undefeated playoff streak rolling. Last playoff game I saw was part of the "Miracle in Richfield" series against the Bullets in 76? !! I am predicting a big game from Zydrunas tonight... Here's hopin' !

Yeah that Joel Zumaya news was a bit disheartening, especially with Kenny Rogers still out, our pitching lineup is getting rattled a bit but no worries...we'll be back in form in no time, and we got a good bullpen so ill wait for healthy pitchers

Maybe you haven't noticed, but the Tigers have won 7 straight games and are only 1/2 a game behind Cleveland. Feel free to talk as much smack as you want though....it'll only make it sweeter in the end for us
But yeah, an Eastern Conference Finals appearance was giftwrapped for the Cavs with this new seeding process. No way one game should make the difference between 2nd and 5th seed. If Cleveland doesn't make it there it would be a huge flop.
It will make for a better conference final this way, but I know what you are saying. Helps to be a cavs fan in this situation, fer sure !
I think the league is pretty happy that it figured out this way. I got sick of hearing on the nationally televised sunday cavs nets game about Lebron being "the only big name star player left". I typically avoid the HELL out of the hype in this area for sports. It sickens me to hear all the pundits overchew this crap just to have a job, and you'd think it's the ONLY local news. But that being said, LeBron is one hell of a nice guy with talent to boot. To say he has been and will be good for the league is a huge understatement.
I have yet to make it up to your spiffy new baseball stadium(not that big a baseball fan). Possibly, a late season road trip will be in order if these two keep in such tight contention.
I tells ya, the Ohio/Michigan rivalry has not seen this kind of intensity in years... If only Florida would sink or something....

Lebron definitely knows the right thing to say. He's already perfected the "game" it took Jordan his whole career to adopt. Not to say I don't think it's geunuine....he's just a smart guy.
Cleveland goes up to Detroit on 5/25....I'll be up there for either the Friday or Saturday game with about 20 friends, Indians and Tigers fans alike. We have a big bash up there once a year.
Yeah, I think LB J reached full maturity at age 7 or something. He's like a robot freakin' alien the way he does everything right. Selfless on the court, well executed business plans, humble gentleman. Of course, he had Jordan to build from....
Yeah I typically don't make it to the Jake 'til later in the season. I gotta get my campin', fishin', partyin' on for the first part of the summer. Baseball starts in august for me !
But i have been considering a trip to Detroit later in the season for a tribe game/gamblethon for the last couple of years.
I'm gonna try to head to Bell's in Kalamazoo for Yonder on 6-12. We'll see what my gas bill ends up before I go planning any more road trips !!!!!!!!!

the tigers didnt do too shabby last year either. and dont forget those redwings. if we could just get the lions doing something we would probably be the greatest professional sports state in the country! and of course with the blue we are the top college state win or lose.
but on topic i cant believe the mavs either. they should get kevin garnett down there. i dont really care what happens in the west as long as san antonios out im good. im thinking the suns will get it done. and its also impressing me what the pistons are doing to the bulls. i was looking forward to watching them battle it out for 6 or 7. looks like its the pistons year again!!!!
It's funny, if you had told me a couple years ago when the Pistons lost to the Spurs in the finals, that you would replace Larry Brown with Flip Saunders and Ben Wallace with Chris Webber and that team would look and play better than before, I would have laughed you out of the room, but it's so friggin true. Webber does things for that offense that Wallace could never do. Conversely, Saunders finally has a team that plays the kind of defense that he doesn't have the track record of teaching well. They look like a well oiled machine out there on the court this year. So much so, that I wouldn't be surprised if they made it through the Eastern Conference without a loss.
As for Cleveland, they're good, but not that good. They still take way too many jumpers, and have lucked out in the first couple of rounds with the teams they've drawn. Lebron certainly has a great future, but he needs better help around him and a more cohesive offensive system to play in. If NJ had any interior rebounding whatsoever, Cleveland would be down 2-0 instead of up 2-0.
And last but not least, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE JAZZ. They are much, much better than everyone thought coming into the playoffs and are essentially on a tear akin to the Mavs last year. The word that comes to mind with that team is clutch. Witness the past two games they've played. Houston and Golden State played as good as I've seen those two teams play, and they still lost. Whether Utah can dance with the big boys remains to be seen, but mark my words: this team has the best homecourt advantage of any team left in the playoffs. They have arguably the best point guard. They have arguably the best defender. They have without a doubt the best rebounding. And they have a two big men who beat you in two completetly different ways. If Sloan can get these guys to grow up fast, this team has the legs to go the distance and make the Warriors storybook first round win against the Mavs look like The Matrix Reloaded.

Jumpers aren't such a horrible thing when you are the #1 rebounding team in the league as I believe the Cavs are. Now if we could just get a few more of them to fall ! Sasha Pavlovic had a horrible percentage last night, yet they just kept piping him the ball, trying to get him to "turn on" or something.
Maybe things will change when the series moves to Jersey, but it just seems that the Cavs are playing with much more heart right now.
Was an exciting game to attend nonetheless. Tight matchup all night with a little lead built in the late 4th at just the right time to give piece of mind.
The reason that the Cavs are up in their series is because their not as deeply flawed as the Nets. Sure, Lebron is iffy in the clutch and they have a lame offense, but the Cavs are also more balanced, talented, and don't have a coach who insists on giving the ball to Vince Carter (the master of choking) at the end of close games. To boot, both teams are zero fun to watch, unless you like them. I'm sticking to the western conference for my playoff viewing right now.
I hear ya. I was hoping for a better series out of the pistons /bulls but nogo so far. At least the cavs/nets are competitive, for the most part. (I still smell another sweep, but I'll let saturday come and go before i start hyping that angle.)
I just can't stay awake for those western conf. games during the week !
