ya i thought the bulls were gonna win 2 or 3 before the series started so this isnt that huige of a deal for the pistons. the main problem i see is the pistons are underachievers. they should sweep everyone. and they should be going for their fourth ring not second. i think chauncy is overrated and their coaching choices suck. the guy couldnt get out of the first round of the playoffs coaching garnett. i dont know why anyone would hire him. the pistons always have troulbe getting the close out game. and they have the talent. its just mentality and coaching. but in the end the bulls cant win. even if it goes 7 they dont stand much of a chance.
whats really surprising to me is how the suns almost got that game last night. the spurs lose a guy playing a couple minutes a game and only has the skin of his teeth between him and retirement and the suns lose their second best player and thier 6th man and they still almost get it. they could end up beating the spurs anyhow. atleast its likely to go 7 and they will beat on each other. get the spurs all nice and tenderized so utah can beat on em. even if they get to the pistons they are gonna be tore up. the pistons got the cavs or the nets. definitely advantage detroit. im gonna miss all the games this weekend at a fest. that sux. well not really. but a little. all i got to say is go pistons!!! go suns!!!! and go cavs!!!

So glad the Cavs won and shut up all the Lebron Haters and sportswriter types who challenge the depth of the Cavs bench. And to have Donyell Marshall(someone I have ripped regularly) step up when James got into foul trouble, and hit, what ,5 threeballs on his birthday. Purely delicious.
See y'all in Detroit. It's not gonna be easy, but don't let anyone tell ya it's not gonna be a fight. Lake Erie will be boiling with the fever !
I just really hate that I'm gonna have to root for the Jazz in their series. I don't like the Jazz very much but I despise the Spurs so, GO JAZZ!!!
Aww come on Danbird, what'd the Spurs ever do to you?
They're soooooo boring. And I'm a Lakers fan so Robert Horry can suck it. Derek Fisher is gonna drain 3's on em all series. Manu wonders how he gets hit in the nose all the time. Well it's really hard to miss something that f*cking huge Seriously though, Tony Parker is probably the only one of their players that I enjoy watching. He's like greased lightning.

I can see where they can come off as boring. But then again, what you call boring, I call fundamentally-sound basketball. They aren't hotshots, they just play their game, and they play it well. The Spurs are a perfect example of "team basketball." Besides, they must be doing something right to consistently get to the Western Conference Finals or the Championship year in and year out.
Tough game for me last night folks !. Really glad it was competitive. R E A L L Y glad that the Cavs led most of the way with little scoring from LeBron. If I have to hear one more friggin' time from these national announcers about the Cavs not having depth, blahblahblah. Granted, Lebron is the Star. Granted, the Cavs have no other bonafied stars. Granted, I'd like to see James play a little more agressive at this point in the playoffs. But the Cavs TEAM defense is what's been holding it all together most of the year.
Detroit is So Huge, and has plenty of star power. But i tells ya, It's gonna be a scrappy series. And that's Cavs ball, pretty or not.

As a huge Pistons fan, I enjoyed the win, but this series should be entertaining. All my buddies said that it will be easy for Detroit but im hopin they retracted after last night. I still think its gonna be Detroit in 6 but I dont think its gonna be easy. I look forward to disagreeing with you in the future in this discussion

Cavs are taking the Pistons. No answer for Lebron, and after game 1, hes gonna step it up. Better rebounding, and highly underated defense. I also dont think the Pistons have a legit scoring threat like Lebron, im not buying Billups or Hamilton. Solid players, but they can be stopped. Losing a game just because of a missed wide open 3 by their best perimeter shooter the past few games doesnt have me too afraid of the Pistons. Dude, when will we ever share a series or game in peace? ;D

I would give Rip a legit scoring threat ability especially after the showing in game 1 (15 at the half, 24 in the game) with all the other starters in double digits except tayshaun, but when you are guarding Lebron I dont expect you to score that much. It will make for a good series for sure though...I will look forward to the quibblings in the near future.

Spurs vs Cavs in the Finals, and I think the Spurs are gonna win. James is a beast and he will respond to the media's recent criticisms and so will the rest of his team. The Spurs are just too good this year though, especially in these playoffs.

Funny you would say they have no answer for Lebron after he was just held to his career playoff low. Just who is a better answer for Lebron than Tayshaun Prince??
The Pistons have 4 guys averaging over 14 points a game in the playoffs. I really don't think having a scoring option is a problem for this team.
You can feel good about the loss if you want, but I feel great about Detroit playing like crap but still winning. Cleveland had their chance to steal home court and they blew it.

I think saying "held" about that situation is giving Detroit a little too much credit.
Cavs and LeBron came into the game knowing the "Jordan Rules" had been switched to the "James Rules". Knowing he would be double and triple teamed at most times, I'd say LeBron was not out to score a shizload. I think that becomes even more apparent when you look at the last play of the game. He was open and he dished it to Marshall.
I wish he had turned it on a little more, especially in the 3rd quarter. But there are possibly 6 more to go. And if that first game demonstrated anything, it's that it ain't gonna be no cake walk for Detroit. What happens when LeBron turns it on like everyone knows he can ?
I loooove the fact that they almost took it with James scoring so few. Now maybe the national press will focus a little more on the team hustle on D, than the lack of "Starpower" outside of LeBron.

Screw the announcers and broadcasters!!! I believed from the beginning that this series was gonna be tight. The analysts can say what they want but its gonna be a close series either way. I hate the way some people are counting Cleveland out because if we lose(by we i mean Detroit to clarify for anyone just reading this), we are looked at poorly but if we win people will just say "well Cleveland had no star power" or whatever. Its such a cop out. Do what I do and mute your television during the game and put on a good record. Be your own critic.

He only had three more assists than his season average while scoring 12 fewer points, so I'd say Detroit earned some credit with their approach to Lebron.
Also, I'm not sure how you consider being guarded by Prince and Wallace as being open on that last play. It was the correct move to pass it...especially being on the road with a chance to win it with a 3. Too bad the supporting cast you're so fond of couldn't come through for you.
I'm pretty sure last year's series was a good enough indication to Detroit that this wouldn't be a cakewalk. All game 1 showed was that Detroit could win while not playing their best and Cleveland's supporting cast can't be counted on in the clutch.
Kinda early in the series to pull your cock out, no ? Those same people I can't count on in the clutch held your big scorers in check for most of the game.
Also, if you read waaaay back, you'll see that I am no Donyell Marshall fan. Twas nice what he did in that game against the Nets on his birthday and all. But I'd rather see Jones a little more than Marshall. I'm not totally second guessing the pass to him though. He was more open than James for sure. The problem is in James' head, in my opinion, most likely related to pressure foul shots.

I'm with ya there. Don't like the TNT crew at all. Of course I am used to my local FSN with all the gang from the miracle in Richfield '76.
I've tried to go with the radio announcers, but it's always a couple seconds ahead. If it weren't the conf. finals, I'd certainly have the tunes crankin'.

No thingy's are being pulled out, just giving a different point of view. I do find it funny when people are happy with a loss....I guess that goes with the territory of being a Cleveland fan.
Touche ! It ain't easy being a Cleveland fan, that's for sure. But it does breed dedication.
Certainly not happy with the loss. Would love to at least split the first two in Detroit.
Just trying to give a measured response. The "clutch" as you call it, hasn't even happened yet.
The first game was about sizing each other up. Goliath(detroit starpower and experience) ain't so big. That's what game one showed me. From the way everybody has dismissed the cavs from the getgo, I would be a little more weary than you are about it being a given that Detroit will advance. This series will be about heart and not stars.
Although the stat they showed about # of playoff games each player has participated in leans lopsidedly to Detroit. That is the only thing that has me worried about a 7 game series...

Very true, most Cleveland fans I know are very dedicated.
I really don't know why you wouldn't consider that a clutch moment, unless it's just to pacify yourself. It takes 4 wins to advance, it doesn't matter which games they are, and winning the first one would have taken home court advantage away and been a huge confidence boost for the rest of the series. You can downplay the game if you want but that was a huuuge moment, and Cleveland didn't come through.
I don't care who in the media is dismissing the Cavs' chances, I know the Pistons aren't and that's all that matters. For the record, I'm not either. I do think Chicago was the 2nd best team in the east, but this series could go either way. I expect it to go 6 or 7 games and wouldn't be shocked if Cleveland wins. Anything can happen.
You're kidding yourself by saying the first game is just about sizing each other up. These teams know each other very well having played each other 16 times in the last year and a half. Game 1 was about taking control of the series, and Cleveland had their chance but they blew it.
And Detroit has plenty of heart....I hope that's not what you're banking on.

Lebron isnt going to be held to 10 points every game, that was one game. If i had to guess id say he doesnt score less then 20 the rest of the series. It'll be a very different game when Lebron takes care of business. I think the Pistons are worse then last year, and the Cavs are better, so i'm expecting it to go to 7 again.
Post by Hipster Doofus on May 23, 2007 12:01:28 GMT -5
I would expect Lebron to score more too, but in Cleveland's four losses to Detroit already this season he's only averaging 19.25. Looks like the "Lebron Rules" have been working so far.
Not that Detroit can't win otherwise....Lebron averaged 27.75 in Detroit's 4 wins in last seasons series.
By the way, Detroit has won 6 of the last 7 meetings between the two teams. Nice.
