I liked Yuengling, once upon a time. They didn't distribute to Ohio until a few years ago, and before that it was a special treat when someone brought Lager back across the state line from PA. Then I found out that Dick Yuengling is anti-union and a Trump supporter. He's had no more of my money since then.
Thanks for not supporting Yuengling anymore! As a public sector union thug in Pennsylvania myself, he's trying to put me, my colleagues, and my members out of jobs constantly. Yuengling can go f--- off.
As a recoverin’ Yuengling lover I wish i had kept every receipt of their beer that I had bought over some 10+ years. They should’ve owed me a nice mirror. Unfortunately since their owner came out in support of Agent Orange 45 I have not spent a penny on their product. Nor will I ever again. Hardest breakup of my life.
But at least I’ve got a swaggy mirror from my first favorite local brewery instead!
And also fuck New Belgium since forever as they’ve always just had shit beer. But now super fuck them as they aren’t even employee owned anymore. Fuck NB forever.

This weekend, I went to the Total Wine and More. For the first time, I wandered over to their case section. They have a surprisingly nice selection in cans. I made a bookmark in my head for June.
Also, for some reason, I keep wanting to remember the thing about Founders as being about Bells then I get sad when I go to the beer store until I remember that it's Founders.

So I've got a bar that's closed to customers but has a dozen tapped kegs, and no idea when we'll be allowed to sell any beer again. Last night I realized I still have a bunch of bottles, caps, and a capper, from when I was into homebrew cider several years ago. Should I bother mentioning to the owners that I'm going to help myself to a case or two of Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA and Columbus IPA? Not much else worth going to any trouble for. Already sanitized the bottles and they're drying now.
Anyone know the actual shelf life of a tapped keg? Does it actually begin to degrade faster once hooked up to a nitro/CO2 system, or does it keep as well as an untouched keg? I'm probably going to be out of work soon, and it might be nice to have some decent beer in the fridge.
it's short enough that Maine Beer is selling off their untapped kegs to consumers instead of bars now that virtually every place in New England is closed

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

If you're stuck at home and you get Troegs in your area, try the new Haze Charmer. It's a pale ale that is their first new year round beer in four years. 5.5% ABV, Citra, Azacca, and Idaho 7 hops. It's yet another outstanding offer from Troegs. Starting with Nimble Giant, then their hop cycle IPAs (First Cut is the bomb), and now their quarterly DIPAs like Lollihop...they really are great.
Since I have no idea when my restaurant/bar will reopen in a meaningful way where I can make money (currently only doin’ to go orders and only one person per AM/PM), I had to go cheap and bought a 12-pack of New Belgium’s Voodoo Ranger fer like $10 yesterday. It is not pleasant.
Also picked up two bottles of Yellow Belly from Omnipollo and Buxton Brewing Co as this is supposed to be the last ever batch. A delicious peanut buttery imperial stout with no peanuts at all. Does not age well as I had a year old bottle just the other night and the flavors had seemed to separate.

I feel your pain in regards to the bar/restaurant situation right now. This craziness will end, but not for a while.
I'm currently avoiding New Belgium due to the murky connections to the Myanmar military establishment, via parent company Kirin, but I loved their OG non-Voodoo Ranger IPA when they first started distributing in Ohio several years ago. It was tasty as hell and bombers were like three bucks. $10/12 would be an instabuy for me, except for the fact that I already know I really don't like Voodoo Ranger.
I'm tempted to stockpile a few cases of cheap, bang-for-the-buck swill, because of looming unemployment. Beast Ice is something like $14/30, haha. I'll be satisfied with Burnett's gin if the S hits the fan and I really need to booze it up while out of work though, at around the same cost. Already cutting back.
I saw a liquor store near my work posting on FB that they have some Alchemist cans in stock. Another one in Providence has some Great Notion and Trillium in stock. Good beers popping up that are rare to not typically sold in stores in this local area.
I got Focal and Heady from the Craft Beer Cellar in Norfolk this very afternoon
I hope they have some tomorrow, or the place in Mansfield. Do you know if they had a lot?
Norfolk is nice. I've been there a few times now. Got their Advent box last year, plus found Great Notion there before. They also once had a triple dry hop version of Shovel Town's Flyaway that was great.
If you like Yuengling lager but hate the fact Yuengling's executives are all Trump loving union busters, I have found a good alternative.
Shipping Out Of Boston, by Jack's Abby. Not sure how widely available Jack's Abby is outside the northeast - but it's a solid amber lager.
Breakin’ up with Yuengling was the hardest break-up of my life thanks to their support of Agent Orange 45. Thankfully we have a delicious and local amber lager brewed an hour from my house! Red Oak brews all of their brews strictly followin’ the 1516 Bavarian Beer Purity laws!
Up here in New England, we don't get too much beer from the South. Mostly the big names in Florida (like Cigar City) and some Sweetwater. And I think Wicked Weed, but I'm that big into sours and it's owned by AB anyway.
Norfolk just got in some stuff from Trophy out of Raleigh. As a Connecticut native, I'm supposed to hate Raleigh and everything from there. But I decided to pick up some of their stuff. Trophy Husband is a good wit, and I got some Cloud Surfer as well.

Trophy makes some decent beer! But as a company overall I think they’re fantastic! I haven’t looked into the details, but my boss the other day said that they’re feedin’ hospitality workers without jobs fer free right now.

Picked up a four pack of a milkshake IPA from Evergrain Brewing, a local place in central PA. It's aged on mango puree and peaches. I'm a fan of the milkshake IPA craze.

Kind of beer related: my wife were out for a walk in a part of town we don't entirely know. A guy was walking by with his granddaughter and he gave us directions to a nearby park we were looking for. Turns out it was the founder of Boulevard Brewery (Kansas City's pride and joy). He was very friendly and we kept our 6 feet gap.
I've been on a steady beer diet of coors light since the pandemic started, because we weren't going to the grocery that often and I could buy some 30 packs to keep in the garage. I typically prefer IPAs but it's been nice to get back into the ole college frame of mind, especially since my work/life schedule has taken on that same sort of fluidity. I picked up an IPA crowler from the local brewery during my last grocery run, and man it's a shock to the system to switch from 4.2 yellow water to an 8.4 DIPA.
Also, the guys who built Kalliope opened a brewery about 6 months before the pandemic started, Walter Station Brewing. Drank there a few times before shiz shut down; really good beer all around, but they put out a delicious hazy IPA (my fave style) with a great name:
