Had the time of my life got to meet jj grey and also had an amazing time at the river laying on the sound enjoying the vibes... Deff gotta love the family jam it had everyone i wanted Bobby, JJ Grey, Trucks, and even a sit in with greg allmans son.. amazing times..
I had a great friday at Wanee. To start with it was real camping in the woods, not a huge open field with cars and tents crammed into it.
Everyone I saw Friday was good. Inca Maya opened. They are a regional band but these guys were goooood. Watch out for them. I had never seen JJGrey and Mofro before. They really impressed me. Levon Helm was amazing. As some of you know Gov't Mule is my favorite band. They rocked the show with a lot of surprises. The best was the Cortez The Killer encore.
After that things went downhill for me fast. I got extremely ill. I spent a sleepless night in my tent that was soon followed by vomiting and high fever. When the sun came up I broke camp and drove home. It took me over eight hours to drive less than 200 miles. I had to keep stopping to nap and puke.
It was a bummer for me but at least I did get in one good day.
well i talked to my buddy who went and he said it was awesome. not many ragers. more drunk and chillin then trippin and ragin. but he said it was fun none the less and that the wanee family jam was insane.
but my main concern was that he said there were no grilled cheeses. period. 1 dollar or otherwise. no vendors had em. no one in the lot had em. can it really be called a fest????
Wanee was great, even though the Allman's canceled. Levon was great (but not as amazing as the ryman, though I doubt anything will top that for a while). I caught all of Mule, Levon,Derek & Susan, Tinsley Ellis, Wanee Family Jam (The Same Thing was a great insane jam session), and parts of PBS, Greyboy Allstars, Mofro,Junior Brown,Randall Bramblett and they all ranged from good to outstanding (do not miss PBS if they are coming your way).
Derek and Susan's show was the highlight once again this year. I thought their 2007 set didn't touch the 2006 one, but they killed it this year. From Don't think twice til the closing version of the weight i was in a state of shock..... it may have been all covers, but they killed every song they played.
I was also glad they added a second midnight show w/ Junior Brown on friday..... I caught some of his set and it was good, but I'm mad I left early because I heard Warren came out and jammed with him for a while.

Awww, man sorry to hear you got the fest bug. I wouldn't want to have to roll up and pack in that condition, never mind drive home alone.

But Cortez encore sounds heavenly!
The whole Mule show was great. They knew they were playing to their hardcore fanbase and brought out a lot of rarities.

I'm new to inforoo and just wanted to say hello to everyone that was at Wanee this year. I made it to Langerado, Wanee, and then Bonnaroo. Are there any other festies in the South East that are worth the drive up from Ft. Lauderdale? Thanks for any advise and please say what up to a inforoo newb!!

^^ Do you know if they are going to have the Echo Project this year? I heard they might not be doing one this year. Ultra is a crazy fun time. Thanks for the info.
You might want to check out bear creek fest, it's at the same place wanne was, I've been looking into that, more funk music than jam, but it's all good.

^^^ I am definitely making it out for Bear Creek. Three months is a LOOOONNNNGGGGG time to wait for another kick azz fest. I've got acoustic guitars, acoustic/electric basses, and a couple of djembes to help keep that funk going into the late night ;D
If you are contemplating going to Bear Creek, you can save almost $100 if you buy your ticket before July 15th. COMMIT to this fest by purchasing your ticket NOW. It's gonna be the most funky/dancing/cheesing party in all the South East.
