but its why there are bands like tool, kanye, the police, beastie boys, metallica, etc... keep showing up at fests. to "diversify" with people who spend money.
That's right. I almost forgot Keith only supports bands and fests that pretend they don't want his money.
And last time I checked, The Dead and Phish were well known for having extensive light shows, and now you're dogging Tool and other bands (you didn't say the Flaming Lips, but I know you're thinking it) for doing the same thing?
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i understand fests want/need to make money. just like supermarkets. but there are different ways of accomplishing that. the walmart/superfly way and the local organic co-op/hookahville way. and there is alot in between. i just dont like the way superfly has done things. im entitled to bitch about it. just as your entitled to cream yourself about it. its all good.
and phish and the dead never, ever, ever, ever played the same setlist, played the same way, night after night so their lights and effects could look good. be real. they have good lights and good light operators. there is a huge difference. but you seem to be afflicted with some horrible condition that prevents you from detecting obvious differences. im sorry. it must make life difficult.
and as for the lips i just dont get it. the music does nothing for me. i did enjoy the spectacle of it all at echo proiject. it is quite a show. but to me again its a play. its not good live music. its just a show. no innovation. no improvisation. just the same glitter and balloons. and seeing how its what i do ill just throw it my opinion out there. it seems to me that the lips got popular off of being popular. they put on an insane show with glitter, lights, balloons, spaceships, and human hamster balls and it caught on. seems pretty gimmicky to me. most of the lips fans i know own yoshimi but never play it, get excited to see the lips on a lineup and then get bored and leave to come find us at mule. enough people swear by them that there must be some good music in there somewhere that got them started. but it just isnt for me. someone here on inforoo posted that wayne himself says that their show isnt about good music anymore and they are just putting on a show. for me its just another band that if youve seen them once or twice youve seen everything they have to offer. and dare i say it. they made it walking pretty close to that mainstream line. kinda the underground mainstream if you will
at some point, and I'm talking to everyone here, I think it's best to just say "I've said my piece."
Dude, you've been carrying on this argument for several years now. It pushes peoples buttons and it pushes threads along, but it's old and tired, and frankly, you've written an incredible amount about your feelings on the subject. I think we get it now.
I don't know at what point you say, "I've said my piece," but I'll say it now. I've said mine.
I had already PMed Keith about the cop comment, and it was not Boz at all. He told me who it was, and also said that guy hasn't been around for a while. It was definitely not your husband he was referring to, meg.
i miss oaty.
And it wasn't Oatmealschnapps he was talking about, either.
at some point, and I'm talking to everyone here, I think it's best to just say "I've said my piece."

ahhhhhh... i was wondering where you were. i might have to revoke your membership from my fanclub if you dont improve your response time. if ya didnt notice we are actually to the point of having a half assed discussion. but your dude detector went of at just the right moment to get in here and do your part. thanks for being you man!
and just because ive assaulted you with my opinions repeatedly dosent mean there isnt some new person that hasnt had the pleasure. what amazes me is the incredible amount of sh!t that youve written about the incredible amount of sh!t that i have written.
And it wasn't Oatmealschnapps he was talking about, either.
i dont think he thought it was oats. i think he was just referencing the whole thing. not that it matters but i was refering to korvette.... i dont even know if he posts or not anymore. it was no big secret. he announced it to everyone himself.
i am thankful i wasnt around when it all went down. seriously. im just on here killing time and running my mouth. im taken way too seriously. and the people that bicker with me know that. they bicker because they enjoy it and it kills time. they just wont admit it.
thats what i loved about oat. he was open about enjoying a good argument now and again. it is sad that whatever happened resulted in those 2 taking off. i definitely miss them. but shit happens. i cant wait to see people from both sides of that argument again at fests in the future. i just like to argue to kill time. i hate that shit got that serious on here because i think your all good people.
(again... damn im happy i was out and about when all this went down.)

Fair enough, but as long as you continue to whine I will continue to call you a whiney b!tch. and comparing Bonnaroo to Wal-Mart is pretty far fetched. Last time I checked Superfly is not being sued for sex discrimination, poisioning Americans w/ lead-filled chinese goods or driving down wages.

Yes, there is a difference. My point (which you seem to be unable to comprehend because of some similar affliction) is that there is room for both shows at Bonnaroo; that just because a band plays a straight setlist every night or doesn't improvise in their music does not mean that band is shittier, or lazier, or more greedy than a band that does. Not every band is meant to be followed around the country night after night by waterhead hippies like yourself.

At least you admit you don't get it.
I love how you say mainstream like it's a plague. I'm sure the bands you love would just turn their backs on a boatload of cash from legions of adoring fans to keep their "underground" cred with you and all your bonnaroo-bashing hippie friends.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
wow. and im labled as the negative one? sticks and stones may break my bones....
and whats the point of touring and putting on the same show with lights and gimmicky crap?? its to make money by traveling all across the country doing the same thing. its for the love of money not the love of music. you dont see metallica or the lips doing 5 night stands in cities. there is a reason. maybe there is room for both. but one has been pushed to the side in favor of the other at roo. and im sure most would take the cash. i like to think otherwise but in reality money talks. luckily the masses listening to mainstream music have zero interest in something that dosent sound like all the other over produced crap they hear all day. you dont think these amazing musicians could make pop crap that would sell to the masses if they wanted to? they choose not to because they are in it for the love of creating music not earning dollars. sure some of them make money but i truly believe that its not why they do it. and to me its most angering when something is built on the backs of dedicated fans and they are then sold out. like metallica and kanye at roo. or even what metallica did to its fans with everything after black. its when the people who were there in the beginning feel abandoned that the hard feelings come out. oh well.... as fun as this has been im off to celebrate 4/20 with an obscene amount of beer and a boogie matrix mechanism show. its been real and i hope you all have a wonderful evening!!!!
Gerry Garcia is a f**king plague, dude. All those burrito-making hip-turning hippies that listen to him and f**king tool around and don't get jobs and don't do anything, they can f**king go to hell.
and real quick before i go. movie quote or not the fact that you would use it speaks volumes. as do most of your posts. normally id say if you hate hippies your in the wrong place. but you should be good at roo. all i can say is quack society. who wants to be a part of that bullhonkey. be a productive member of society? whats that mean? pay taxes for illegal wars on iraq and NO NO WORD!!!!. pay the pigs so they can violate my rights and harrasss me? shaking people down for money waiting to respond to some horrible crime instead of preventing it. giving us a list of sex offenders in the area so we can watch them and they can harrass us. we dont need a quacking list. i thought we were paying cops to serve and protect. im more scared of cops then any other people i come across in america.
avoiding all of that makes some of us pieces of poop and beneath you? thats a quacked up point of view and its whats wrong with america. anyhow im gonna open that can of worms and headout. ;D but quack a job. unless its making burritos at a show.
you probably dont give 2 shits but this quote really describes how i feel about the box of a job and property and taxes that society desperatly wants you to be a part of so you can feed the machine..............man!
Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer
So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.
i can find that beauty on the road with friend and family having fun new experiences. isnt that what life is about? ive never found that in owning property or a job. its not like your paying for it. wtf do you care?

Why am I not surprised you idolize Christopher McCandless? you romatasize what he did, but the bottom line is he's f&cking DEAD. and that proves my point. Man is a social creature, and if everybody just drops out and goes to waste rolling borritos like you it's not society's fault, it's yours. if you spent half the energy working for positive change withing your society (and it's yours whether you like it or not) that you did getting high and b!tching and judging everybody else there wouldn't be all the f%cked up sh!t you listed off. But you just give up and get stoned and f%ck it all up, and that's why I hate you and everbody like you.
Your talk of the "masses" who are beneath you smacks of nazi rhetoric and thats why I call you a fascist. You're also a musical fascist because you insist there's only one credibe, authentic type of music, the type based on improvisiation and pleasing wastrels like yourself with noodling jams that vary slightly from night to night. You discount the entire classical music cannon, which has no basis in improv. I'm sure Symphonies are playing Beethoven and Mahler the same night after night because they're "cash cows." Your ignorance seaks volumes.
But who cares, you're not even here to read it because you're out getting high, which only goes to further proves my point. Happy 4/20, you stupid hippie.

hmmmmm... "Into the Wild"... now it's not the Dude's fault that things don't change. Think! It's not Illegal yet. Why can't we stand up more here, society? They've got us by the balls! I had a friend of mine tell me that we're on the verge of something we've only been shown in movies and documentaries, where the fuck is your job and such gonna get you when this dollar crashes, what will you have to offer society? Typing skills? Bonnaroo (Inforoo) is not the place to argue , but i think, it is the place to UNITE! Now, i know this may need to be in the "drunk and rambling" thread but.... whether you know it or not this country is in DIRE STRAITS! My senior year in high school, the foreign exchange student was from Geogia Republic of the Soviet Union, and something he said to me still echoes in my ear, about the fall of the Soviet Union, is when it did fall, you could wipe your ass w/the Ruble! It was worth nothing! Where is the Dollar today? The life style so degraded in past, will very likely prosper in the event of the whole "shithouse going up in flames" so be careful of the bridges you burn my friend. Things are not as they seem!

Hmm I don't frequent this part of the forum too often. But here's my two cents, for what its worth.
I don't particularly like WSP, love Claypool, haven't even heard of the others. So nothing too significant for me. I was hoping for something bigger, but I'm not really too disappointed. I'm not just going for the music...I'm going for the experience, the people, and the freedom. The music is just a very pleasant added bonus.

that dude guy is a dick. in that bonnaroo way that makes it cool. but really dude dont be hating on the flaming lips. or other over produced music. that sucks. and it makes me not like you. which adds to my own personal burdens so for the sake of me and others, stop. thats such a stupid way to look at music. such a stupid way. i bet you dont play music. the flaming lips took a lot of time out of their lives to make that over produced music and to put that unimprovised show together. why cant you appreciate that.
i had a good time at widespread panic last year watching everybody so ill be there chilling towards the back, having a sit. not a bad set of additions.
and that's why I hate you and everbody like you. you stupid hippie.
and your calling me a faschist nazi????? what reality do you live in??? your are the exact definition of the assh0les im talking about that make new roo something that i am not attending.
and i never said i worshiped the dude. i think it was an incredibly dumb move to do what he did. and even in the horrible position he put himself in if he had the common sense that evolution gave a duck he would have been fine. i respect his ideas and philosophy on life. just not his execution in trying to achieve that lifestyle. the dude gave it a try. did the cookie cutter society thing and didnt like it. he took off, made some horribly dumb decisions and starved alone. wtf does it matter to you? why hate a guy for living his life how he wanted? i think thats why many of us dislike society so much. you all insist that everyone must be a part of and contribute to this evil machine that is our government. get a job and be a part of this ridiculous society. talk about american idol and the superbowl at the water cooler. vote as though it has any effect on anything. and of course lets not forget about societies most beloved past time. bashing and bitching about anyone and everyone who dosent participate in your silliness and passing laws to oppress them. your just a sad person. maybe a little 4/20 celebration would help your outlook a bit. calm you down a bit. put down your beer, have a toke and chill the quack out. where are the positivity police when they are really needed? but bottom line is that your just one of THOSE people. hmmm the other people i know that love zappa are dipshits too. ill bet your a weener too. but thanks for pointing out the type of people im referring to and illustrating so clearly why i feel the way i do. maybe we will get lucky and youll choke on a jerry roll or one of those made with love hippie burritos.
atleast your good for something. i dont seem nearly so negative when your around spewing your b.s. that and i cant even read the name stallion without hearing it in big gay als voice. silly stallion. its always good for a smile at your expense.
thanx, i hope you have a super duper 4/20 as well you silly stallion

mmmmm ok. dosent make him any less of a hippie hating douche. it dosent make roo any less different from 02 - 08 because he was there before i was. and he seems quite anti non no word for a guy who worships a dude who claimed eating 12 hits of lucy and snorting 5g of powder was his lifes greatest accomplishment. silly stallion takes hipocrisy to a new level.
