Yea, I agree, but some seem to think Phish playing at Roo is just the most ridiculous thought ever since they are sooooooooo huge.......I don't get it, it think it is a natural fit. I really do not know their music very well, but have no real interest being tuned off by the "Phish is just waaaaaaay to big to ever consider playing Roo" and "If your not a huge PHAN (really?) you should not try and get tickets to shows until all the faithful have had a chance to see them again" crowd.

this^^^^^
My understanding from alot of people is that there are just some bands you HAVE to see live to "get" and really turn into a fan
Trey has said that Phish always wanted to make up for the cluster f#%k that was Coventry. They want their own fest and Phish are to big for roo it would piss a lot of people off who go to roo and hate jambands. Plus be a nightmare for superfly to deal with. I'm thinking Limestone.

i see the arguments on both sides. i really do. i just happen to think and believe it would be for the best for PHANS and FANS if phish did there own fest. and meg.....if and when phish tours, you can catch then when they come to a town near you...dont worry!!
I still think the best way for Phish to play Roo would be unannounced. An unannounced superjam or something like that. Although I do think they could headline IF they already announced their summer tour and their own Phest. That would keep attendance at a reasonable level.
yeah, they can do their own "phestivals", and that's not something most bands can claim to do. But thats more the nature of thier fans than their popularity. adding them to bonnaroo for a night (or more likely, two) would both bring the lost sheep back into the fold and open them to a new audience.
at the end of the day, they are playing local amphitheaters and arenas - not stadiums. they aren't really aren't so big that they would overshadow roo. and even if they did, so what... they will probably organize thier own thing too. they can do both.
not to mention, it would be a hell of a pay-day (for less work than organizing their own thing)...
How bout the FANS who have never seen a live Phish show and would like to do so, but may not be in to a 3-day Phish festival? Bonnaroo seems like a perfect fit for that audience. Maybe they could do their own fest for the faithful, but also play a headlining role-->late nite at Roo for those of us who would love to experience the show, but not interested in taking a weekend trip just for that one band.

if u look at the big picture....they ARE doing the hampton, and they ARE gonna tour.....soo there is a posibility that they could play roo, there is a huge posibility damn near garuntee that they will have their own fest.....but whats wrong with covering all the bases and just doin it all, then going back to their own projects then once thats done, doing their phish cd
or if they did play roo...mike said they have their own things goin.....y not during the day have each member doin their own thing then at night do the phish thing

This will prob sound rude but whatever. I do think that Phish playing Roo is the most rediculous thought ever. Those who think it's even a possibility clearly don't understand Phish at all. They are not only too huge, but they do their own fests. 1. They are huge enough to do their own fests. and 2. Why would they do someone else's fest and get paid this much (hands held closly together), when they can throw their own fests and reak all the benefits and get paid this much (arms spread wide). The only possible way they will ever do a fest (Roo or otherwise) is if it's a secret show. Phish is not just a headliner, they are their own phenomenon

This is probably the question Superfly/AC is trying to solve right now.
I think people underestimate how much of a clusterfuck it would be if phish played roo, I mean there was between 75,000-110,000 people at coventry just for phish.

you are claiming WE don't understand Phish?! you really think they are that into money. Those guys are set for life, they will never need any money for the rest of their lives. They do their own thing because they can and have people behind them to do it. They could and would play Roo, i believe, if they were asked. All of them have played at Roo/other festies before... they'll do it again..

If Phish JUST played Roo, yes. But with a full US tour and their own Phestival, adding Roo to their schedule would spread the Phreaks thin enough, esp. with the economy going the way it has been. People seem to forget that the massive numbers Phish pulled in the 90s were a direct result of the pleothra of cheap gas that allowed everyone to follow them everywhere. In the new American century even the trustafundians will be hard pressed to afford to make EVERY show.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

point is very very valid. i guess we just have to wait and see.....

Bonnaroo does have a working relationship with all the members of phish so that means that AC Superfly has their foot in the door to at minimum try and negotiate the idea of them headlining the festival. I agree with earlier posts that the probability of them doing it is based on the tour and if Phish has their own phestival. I think if they do have their own phestival and a long tour that would be to the advantage of them leaning towards playing Bonnaroo. I think we can all agree that Bonnaroo is the only festival in the country that has any chance of getting phish to play a festival if phish doesn't do their own phestival. I think we underestimate the AC Superfly and the people that work their in how they do business and how good they are at booking bands. Heres the ultimate question if Phish is booked to headline do they play 2 nights a la Panic in past years or will they do one night and be treated as the major headliner on saturday night. If they do only one night I would really like to see a curveball out of bonnaroo and have them doing a headliner into a latenight of phish by letting them do 3 sets from 9:00 Pm till 4 am. That would be absolutely satisfying to the any phish/bonnaroo fan. To be honest I don't think any of the phish members outright dismiss the offer of headlining bonnaroo without giving it any time or consideration or group discussion on the possibility of them playing.

Becca - I think it's doubtful Phish will make it South for many dates - if at all - so - it's no biggie to me - I have gotten to know more about them in the past 3 years or so and enjoy seeing Tey play - whether by himself or with others - so who knows - but it is not something I'm gonna go nuts over
