Hey guys I wanted to post that I got official confirmation from my source earlier tonight in an email, my source has known Bruce Springsteen for over 40 years and is best friends with Bruce's manager. I have been annoying him for months about the possibility of Bruce but he would never acknowledge me by giving me a yes or no that Bruce was playing. In the last three years he would always tell me right away no because he would just call Bruce's manager and then relay the message but now he finally emailed me saying he's allowed to tell now that Its official from the Bruce camp that Bruce will headline and he was also told that Phish is confirmed also. My source is the real deal I wish I was able to provide a link but in this case I can't. Because of my friend I have been able to meet Bruce and hang out with him about 4 times in the last 5 years so I know he is not lying. He told me Bruce camp is planning on unveiling the upcoming tour dates right after the Super Bowl performance that is why Bonnaroo moved the annoucement of the lineup up to a few days after the Super Bowl to coincide with Bruce making the annoucement. I know that I will be smited for making this post up until we get the official lineup but to give myself some credibility I have never posted in the past any confirmations of bands or rumors. I just know this to be a FACT because I made friends with this guy about 6 years ago and found out through our friendship that he grew up with Bruce. I will never make a claim I wouldn't back up with my honesty and to be honest he's one of only 2 people I know in the music industry. I had a feeling the boss was official last month when my friend bought tickets the day they went on sale and normally he doesn't do that until the lineup comes out but now I have confirmation from him and I need to make sure I get a ticket when they go on sale. Phish and Bruce will sell out quick.
awesome i got GA's too, we're still looking for 1 extra tix to get our group up to 5....but my question is - do you guys know the deal as far as when they let you in and how crowded it will be up there?
GAs technically open at 5. Anytime before 5 they give out optional wristbands with a number on it. These wristbands are to get in the pit (usually 350-500 people and there's usually a fair amount of room in the back of the pit). At Hershey I'd guess they'll be about 850 people picking up wristbands. At 5 a number is called and that person becomes #1 in line and, the person directly after that number becomes 2 etc (So if 800 people get wristbands and 750 is called; 750-800 are the first 50 in. Then 1-50 are the next 50 etc.) They usually let people in in batches of 100 in the order of the number. So not everyone who gets a wristband gets in the pit but then once the pit is full that becomes the front of the GA line. Then you can get in the GA without a bracelet (but this is usually like an hour later since it takes forever to get people in). The back of the GA has a lot of room. If we don' get in the pit we usually tailgate two more hours then go to the back of the pit near the soundboard (best sound in the stadium) and there's plenty of room to dance. Remember, the average age at a Springsteen concert is like 55 so its a pretty tame crowd.
Note about Hershey though. When I saw him last summer, the security had no idea what they were doing. My brother and I picked up on this and even though we had a horrible pit number, were able to get in the first group of 100 since it was complete chaos (I don't think Hershey Stadium is used to names as big as Springsteen). I know he is relying on stadium security more this tour so I'd expect something similar on Friday.

I'll be shocked if there are only 850 folks in the Hershey lottery.I was in the lottery at St Paul Mon night, with over 1100 of my closest friends. They let 600 in,and darn the luck I missed it by about 80 or so.IIRC,the Hershey Pit last year was close to 1000 folks, the biggest of the tour, except for Harley.
I will say that the absence of Fox and the regular Springsteen security team has resulted in some "questionable" maneuvers. The folks in St Paul were extremely proud of the fact that they had 1100 in the lottery, but in order to "accomplish" that they gave out wristbands up until 5:30.I'm really not bitter about it,but the math is irrefutable. The number drawn was about 750,they let 600 in and my number was 298...
Been lookin and listening to some of his sets and the new stuff he is playin and I'm needless to say a little less than enthused to see him at all.....Bummer
that's kind of a bummer to hear. I like the old Bruce Stuff with the exception of some of the 80's crap. I HATE Born in the USA and so hope I don't hear that song! Truthfully I haven't listened to any of the new stuff at all, but your opinion is pretty much what I expected.
and
I know this is the wrong thread but I had to vent...WTF is up with NIN, Moe, MGMT, Yeasayer & Ben Harper all being scheduled at the same times!!! This pisses me off. Clearly someone was not thinking at all. ^&$@%&^&*^@*
Just a heads up,for anyone not waiting in the Pit line in East central PA this afternoon... Tom Morello is guest DJ ing on E Street Radio this afternoon,at 4 pm I believe. You can listen online with a Sirius subscription...
And one of my youtube subscriptions just posted some outstanding vids from the Toronto show a couple of weeks ago. Shot from the Pit,and really well done, they do a great job of making you feel like you're there.I love this version of Rosie, especially on full screen with high quality settings...

I'm interested in hearing te reports from mahimahi and Juan, but initial reports from BTX indicate that the Pit procedure at Hershey was a colossal cluster(quack?)!! They hired part time security who didn't give a damn, had 2500 people in the lottery, and didn't insist on folks lining up numerically after the winning # was drawn.
As a result, people bullrushed and knocked down a gate, some folks were nearly trampled, and people pushed, shoved and generally bullied their way to the front. One poster on BTX said her daughter hurt her ankle, and this is at a show that figured to be very family-oriented,with a ton of kids...
So my question is will we be forced to deal with this type of behavior at 'Roo?Are people going to think they can come late to the party and just bullrush their way in front of us,if some of us have been camped in that spot for 8-10 hrs?
Do we need to institute some sort of fan-run list and hold everyone accountable, the way they used to do on the Rising tour, and the way they still do in Europe?I read on another thread about some guy who said he waited 8 hrs for PJ,and found himself 20 rows deep.
Pardon my french, but imo that sucks.I'm an old fart with heart disease, and the idea of holding my spot for 8 hrs and then having to outrun a bunch of fools who came at the last minute would definitely piss me off.I definitely need to conserve my energy, because standing for the actual 3 1/2 hr length of the show will leave me exhausted as it is.
Anyway, just some questions I have for you vets out there.I think there are at least 100 or so hardcore folks from BTX planning on being at the front of the line,so hopefully we can unite and maintain some order to the procedure.
As for the Hershey show, very nice setlist, and the (at least) 2nd time he's played Trapped after opting to omit it in St Paul.We did get E Street Shuffle,as well as 10th and Rosie in the encores, but I'm really hoping we get Trapped at 'Roo.Till then...

Yeah the pit was a mess. I think they must have let in anyone with a wristband because it was packed. It was more like a pit at one of the younger shows I go to (i.e. Gaslight Anthem) than a Springsteen. They lined people up for no reason multiple times, didn't check numbers going in (although there were a lot of people who were checking other people's numbers and if they weren't suppose to be there were making them get out of the line). There wasn't a line as much as they pulled the people with good numbers out of the line and then everyone sprinted for the pit. I didn't see too much pushing but I also had a really good number (the number called was like 1648 and my groups was in the 1750s and 1760s) so after the chaos of the security, I ended up front row dead center. A guy right behind me and to the side had a number in the 600s which goes to show how they really screwed up.
Like I said earlier, it was a pretty tame crowd. It was a bit rowdy for a Bruce crowd, but compared to most of the younger bands that will be a Bonnaroo it was fine. Like the festival crowds will be used to it.
As far as worrying about people cutting the line, here's my two cents. The people that have been going to concerts for like 30+ years know some tricks over the younger ones. If someone is trying to break the rules, the older concert goers usually put them in their place.
Hope nobody thinks this is in bad taste. It touches on a couple topical issues, like Ticketbastard, and the thread on here dealing with "signs".And imho,it's freaking hilarious...
Maybe it's being from NJ. Maybe it's because of my uncle and brother. Either way, I think Bruce is overlooked today in a bunch of ways and I just encourage the inforoo crowd to be open. You don't have to love him, but being open could make you see a whole new side that you never expected.
In the same way that the Beach Boys or even sometimes the Beatles are overlooked by my generation - the problem is in the fact that our parents listened to it. We heard it as kids, its oldies and now we associate it with old people.
But just as many have discovered later that the Beatles were geniuses and the Beach Boys also were amazing with their harmonies ect. - the Boss has much to offer also. Open your hearts to the live music people, and much joy will flow forth. I think this will be the most memorable headliner since Radiohead (not counting Phish obv.)

Karma for that, very well said. I feel that most people who hate Springsteen just never really gave him a chance and just go by what they hear on the radio. Springsteen has written so many great tunes and puts on such a great show. With 3 and half hours to play im expecting this show to be legendary.

Great A 100 of the hardcores who go to every show, but must be in the front and have no problem gaming the system to do so. (I mean really, do the same people win the lottery EVERY time?) All the while thinking the concert is about them while furthering their own weird hero-worship thing they have going on with Bruce. I was hoping they wouldn't be at Bonnaroo.

Easy there,I think you misunderstood my use of hardcore.I wasn't talking about the Pit Pig types, who game the system. Rather folks like me who plan on sacrificing any other shows on Sat to earn a spot up front by actually getting in line like civilized people and waiting for Bruce.
Hopefully no one has a problem with people who willingly make that choice. Can't imagine any way that would be considered more fair.I highly doubt the Pit Pig types like the guy with the hair plugs and his Morticia Addams-like sister will make the trip to 'Roo...
Btw,if you have kids,I don't,or even if you think RugRats are a plague on mankind, this vid has got to warm your heart. As I posted in the "sign" thread,Out In The Street seems like a waste of a sign spot, until you see how excited this little one is ...

Well, I don't come close to being the most hardcore, but I've actually gotten into the pit for all five shows that I had GAs for (all legitimately). I was convinced that my luck had run out when the Atlanta show came around this year, but ended up closer than ever somehow.
I will wait all day for Bruce to be up front on Saturday. I throughly enjoy experiencing other bands, but all day long I would be thinking about the fun I could be having later that evening if I were just willing to sacrifice the day to be up front. Then, if I didn't wait, during the show I'd be envious of those up front. Hence, the decision to wait it out. Some of us aren't quite so lucky to live in the NE where he saturates the market with shows

I definitely misunderstood IUBossfan and your use of hardcore. I was referring to the "Pit Pigs" who whine and cry and believe it is their God given right to be in front of Bruce. I really hope to see none of their faces.
I am in no way talking about any of you guys who want to get there early and wait all day or especially you Vandy who got in the pit legitimately. I myself plan on missing shows to get close as well and would definitely fall into your definition of "hardcore" then. (Haha, who am I kidding, I'm definitely hardcore. I'm the 2nd question-asker in the Q&A on your VH-1 Storytellers DVD)
And sorry if I overreacted and wasn't clear and offended anyone, it's just seeing them at alllllllllllllll those shows and having dealt with the games they played on the Rising tour fan-lines, totally left a sour taste in my mouth for ALL of them. They are the antithesis of what Bonnaroo is about.
I'm talking from experience here. Giants Stadium show in 2003, we get lucky in the lottery and there's 10 of me and my friends (all age 21-22) who end up 2nd row between Bruce and Steve. Show starts and we proceed to get bumped and slammed by a large woman and her friends telling us that "we were in their spot" and that they've had the same "spot" for 5 nights (this being the 6th show). We end up having to have words and cursing to get it to stop. Completely took us out of what should've been an amazing experience (for a few songs anyway) And while I've been closer, only a select few of my friends have been that close and ever will be again. And they're happy with their one experience there and still talk about it 6 years later. I'm just happy to be at a show with good friends when it comes down to it. I would never ruin another persons show by thinking that I deserve to be up front or anything like that like how some of those pigs act. So that's probably why I overreacted. And that's just 1 experience I've had with them.
/end rant and deep breath haha.

You guys really dont have to miss much. Your still going to get to see Rod y Gab & Wilco which will both be great shows. I really want to be in the pit for Bruce but I just cant do it, there are just to many other great bands playing on other stages. But waiting for Bruce wont be bad at all, you get to see two great concerts plus be close for the Boss really cant beat that.

No problem usty,I know exactly what you're talking about from personal experience.I was in the Indy Rising Pit line when all hell broke loose, and the controversy reached it's zenith.
There were 2 competing "lists",and a bunch of us were standing in line when we were mysteriously displaced by folks who arrived from the Columbus show the night before.Even though none of us remembered seeing them at any time, including check ins, their names mysteriously appeared on the list, and they all ended up in the Pit.
The hairplug guy was pointed out to me in St Paul,as he slunk around waiting to hear the winning #,so he knew what wristband to wear.He wasn't even in line, but my buddy said watch,he'll be in the Pit.Sure enough there he was in the Pit,which I was able to observe from my "prime spot" behind the Pit barrier...
Palladia is showing a 3.5 hour long Springsteen Concert from 2000 in New York. It starts at 8 pm central time. Songs included are Out in the Street, Murder Incorporated, Jungleland, Born to Run, and Thunder Road.

My mom was visiting family in New Jersey this past week. Her sister gets a pair of springsteen tickets dropped on her from a former professor who is cousins with springsteen or something and knew she was a fan. So last night my mom is in GA right by the stage in east rutherford, meets springsteen's mom, and stands behind jay weinberg the whole show (Max played the whole set last night) She may have already one upped my dad and I's bonnaroo springsteen show experience...sigh.
Finally saw I'm Goin' Down at my 50th show last thursday. Completely spazzed out when he showed the sign to the camera. Cannot wait until the 'roo set. ;D ;D

What would be a good time to get there to get in front for bruce? Theres a few artists i'd like to see before bruce but the only one i'm DYING to see is Brett Dennen and he goes off around 3.I've been a bruce fan for a few years now and i've been lucky enough to catch him 3 times. Last time Was in april here in Houston and I was lucky enough to get about the second row of people and it was so exhilirating being such a huge boss fan. I can only imagine his broo set being ten times better.
Garth Algar: Do you ever get the feeling Benjamin's just using us?
Wayne Campbell: Good call. It's like he wants us to be liked by everyone. I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.
OK it looks like some questions were answered today at Pinkpop in the NL.The sound on the copy of 10th Ave is pretty bad-likely a cell recording. But you can still hear the excitement in the air,and the way the crowd, not exclusively Bruce fans, were into it...
Going back to an earlier discussion, the stage extensions are obviously there, and Bruce makes a move into the Pit from the very start. He even wipes his face with a bandana a fan offers to him,and I counted about 3 seperate paths he took to get down to the Pit during this one song.
They built the extensions between the Killers and Bruce, and just like 'Roo there was no act following ESB on the main stage. So I'm convinced they'll do the same thing at 'Roo.Btw,Bruce brought Brandon Flowers out for TR,and brought a girl on stage to dance with him on DITD.She had a sign claiming to be a "Dutch Courtney Cox",which Bruce got a kick out of...
Haven't seen the "sign segment" yet,but it may have caught Bruce by surprise that non-fans brought them. They played 2 1/2 hrs under a time curfew, and there were some omissions from the written set list'like Hard Times and Kingdom. But signs resulted in both From Small Things and Trapped being played- both of which I'd love to see live...
Brandon Flowers probably died and went to heaven when that happened, When You Were Young is probably the best Springsteen song that Bruce himself didn't write. Thanks for keeping us updated iubossfan, your Bruce updates are always great.
Don't think this has been posted anywhere here yet. This is Van Zandt talking about how their Roo set will be different, or not......
Bruce Springsteen Preps For Bonnaroo

For many Jersey moons, Backstreets has been the place to get the latest Bruce Springsteen poop, almost straight from the horse's mouth. Backstreets recently took part in a teleconference with the Boss's longtime main guitar man, Little Steven Van Zandt. Topics ranged from preparing setlists, to doing new songs and playing covers. So how does Bruce alter the setlist when playing a festival like Bonnaroo? Not much, actually:
"I don't think you can change things too much. You are who you are—in our case, I think we change things a lot normally. I mean, every night is different, every tour is different. There is a very wide range of songs that we've done over the years that Bruce has written over the course of whatever it is, 30, 35 years—there is a lot of stuff to pick from...
So, we won't change a thing. We are who we are. I love the fact that we're playing to, I don't know, probably half of the audience who maybe never even heard of us. And that's nothing but fun, and nothing but exciting."
