I'm 35+...35+12! Great room!!! BTW: I have an extra band I need to get rid of. My buddy had to bail because his ex won't take the kid - last minute. Anyone have a need? It's posted at Ebay... cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230997371744
Ok...I just had to tell of this by chance meeting I had about 30 minutes ago..I'm out in the yard cleaning the RV and my husband is having a yard sale, along comes a young couple (30ish) looking at our pop-ups and tents we have for sale and asked if the RV is for sale, my husband says no, and tells them we're getting ready to go to Bonnaroo....and they said they are as well...first time.. they have been hired to work access security this year...Both are clearly excited as we explain the amazing time we have and hopefully they will as well,.. so..I tell them we will be parked near the clock tower...Clock Tower? they ask, I said yeah near the Ferris wheel...Ferris Wheel? they ask...ok..so with that being said the couple is getting into their car and the young lady shouts out...SO WHO DO I ASK FOR??? I said, ask for what....she says ...you know when we get to Bonnaroo, who should we ask for so we can come and visit you while we're there.....At that point I lost it..I told her, young lady my name is Renee, but it won't do you any good knowing that,...Puzzlement look, major across her face, Has no one told you about Bonnaroo? No ...well you are about to meet 100,000 of your best friends...I kid you not..she lipped the words 100,000 to her friend, looked back at me and her eyes had fear, non-belief, surprise...a real deer in the headlight moment...and then I just busted into extreme laughter....how do you not know about Bonnaroo? Oh boy..here we go
My husband and I were talking last night and came to the conclusion that until one has personally experienced "Bonnaroo" there is no way to fully understand and be prepared!

Turned 37 today and had a great birthday getting all my supplies together, including the chinaman style hat (is that PC?) I found on the ground last year at Roo and wore the whole weekend up through the Phish finale (which fell on my birthday).
With the fireworks going off and Castor and Pollux directly above the stage (my friend is a shaman, so he explained to me that the Roo management MUST have situated the stage to sit directly below those two stars), it was probably one of the best birthdays of my life. Love that Bonnaroo always falls right around my birthday.
If you see a long-haired short dude with a beard in a chinaman hat, say hi and we'll share a birthday dance.
37 here...past the point where I could have technically fathered most of the people at 'Roo, but not quite to the point when I could have plausibly fathered most of the people at 'Roo.

Being over 35 you realize a few things.
1. You know how to pace yourself.
No need to end up drunk face down in a Porto ditch. Now we get to laugh and say "remember when"
2. Money is not as big of a problem as it once was
But now we get to know that the 5 dollar funnel cake really isn't worth it, unless you've had significant amounts of corn.
3. While we may not go non stop, when we do party we do it better
Of course it may seem fun to party till you fall, but when we fall it's in a bed, with someone else, and they generally have all of their teeth.
4. We aren't to old to start bitching about the craziness
Let's face it, when you get that old, roo isn't for you, and age has nothing to do with that.
Thoughts for the day. Now who is up for funneling cheap beer and thinking we are super sexy when we are really speaking in slurred drunk Beavis and Butthead slang
I am cracking up at the "old hippies +35" title of this thread. Does that make us 50+ crowd the "old geezer hippies"? I do wish Bonnaroo would make some concession to all of us old geezer hippies that have been going hard for 35-40 years!

This! I'll be 40 in a month and this will be my 8th Roo. It's so much better now, because of the lessons I learned along the way.

40 years old, and I'll be attending for the first time this year. I lived in California for 15 years and got into Coachella on the ground floor, but I've been living in metro Atlanta since 2009 and it's just too expensive and inconvenient to make the trip each spring. After hearing Roo raves from lots of my friends, I'm excited to make the switch.

I with ya, 50 here. I keep looking for an "over 50+ old hippie thread". This will be my 6th Roo and it's seems to get better every year. It brings to mind a joke about an old bull and a young bull sitting on a hill looking over a field of cows. The young bull says "let's run down there and have sex with one of those cows". The old bull says "let's walk down there and have sex with all of them". As you get older you tend to take your time and see/do more.
Normally I don't feel my age but before I can confirm attendance this year I have to go to Duke to see if I'm having hip surgery?!?!?!
46 and this will be my 7th Roo (trying desperately to remain optimistic!)
I have confidence you will be there!! I'm 46 and this will be my 9th Bonnaroo. Doing VIP this time to take advantage of those AC lounges for naps I don't really feel like 46 and even at Bonnaroo I don't feel old. I don't think I will ever act my age!

I wish we were all old enough to still party hard. You know like going to Wanee, or having a huge party at your house for Phish shows. I will be 37 this year at 'roo and have not slowed down yet,
I just ignore caution, and pay the price. I know what I'm getting into though - and have more water and my hangover cure within reach of where I will end up crashing. Before I head into center, I tuck a goodys, a water and a red bull in one of my tent pockets right next to my cot.

I will be 40 just a few days before this years Roo, our 4th. We used to follow DMB for summers when I wore a younger mans clothes and those years have taught us the perspective we needed to now know how to appreciate ALL of Roo that much more. The temporary community, the people, the atmosphere, AND the music.
As many stated here earlier, we are just far better at both planning ahead and then pacing ourselves now then we ever could have been then. We make the joke that we stay on a slow "IV drip" of beer for four days. Always have some kind of buzz going, never out of control like those puking or pissing on someone in the crowd. It has taken years of practice to craft this skill of recognizing when we are getting close to the line, then stay there without crossing it. Its like setting the cruise control at 67mph in a 60mph zone for four days.
47 here and this will be my 13th Bonnaroo ( my god where have the years gone?). Every year Bonnaroo gets better. I started out going solo, but now I go with a much younger and beautiful co-camper. While the festival has become more commercial than its early years, it's still a very organic experience.
I can't count the number of younger folks I've assisted over the years whether it was feeding them, giving them a spare propane tank, jumping off their car, hydrating them with Gatorade, sending them home with a food care package because they were broke, or offering a tarp to keep their stuff dry because of a surprise rain shower. They need us...BUT we need them too! They remind us of the vitality of life. We offer the the stability of life experience. Together, we create community.
Bonnaroo is the perfect community of age and gender. That's why I return every year and contribute to its success. Life is too short. Can't wait to live with you all at this years Bonnaroo!
My BF and I are 36 & 37 and we go VIP every year in HOPES of neighboring folks in their 40's & 50's & beyond, they are just so much fun to talk to and have great lives and stories. Gives us visions of how we'd like our lives to be/continue.
I'm not an old hippie yet, but I am looking for some responses from old old hippies if there are any around (50+ in age) I am trying to get an idea of the music listening habits of older adult music fans for a school research project. This survey should take less than 5 minutes and will be of great help in my research. Thank you very much for your time and cant wait to share the farm with you all in just a few months! www.surveymonkey.com/s/LVGKCPW
I'm 44, bringing my 13 yr old son to his first Roo. Am super excited! Hoping he'l find a couple friends to hang out with, and spend a little time with his brother and friends who are camping in GA. Where do most of us "old hippies" camp? Family or GA?

I have always done GA or RV. My now 20yr old son came to Roo twice, when he was 15 and 16. We did GA or RV even then. No problems were had, and he even hung out at camp and in Centeroo with his friend but without me at times. He has always been savvy about booze and drugs though, because I felt it important to educate early on, and I gave him lectures about hydration. Have fun!! My kid hasn't gone back because the last year he went was super hot and dusty, and he had a tough time tolerating it. Maybe some day.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
56 years old and this will be my fourth 'Roo this year. If you have seen on YouTube The Bonnaroo Experience, pause it at 1:38 and you will see my T@B teardrop camper "Moth@ship" pulling into RV to setup what we call Camp Ultimate with friends of mine. My bud also my age and he hasn't missed one since it started, his camper and truck is in front of mine in line.
48 years old, this will be my seventh 'Roo. My daughter will be attending for the second time and her 14th birthday is on 6/13. Our Broo crew's ages are 48,53,41,32, and 14. Got to impart our elderly wisdom on the younger generation.

Just a thought, but can we make the official threshold for being an "old hippie" at least 40, if not something higher? It would make me feel a bit better if I didn't qualify yet.
