2) Is it easy enough to get reliable public transit from the French Quarter Marriott down to the park? Would renting a car be a better idea or just expensive and a pain? Never been to New Orleans, so not real familiar with any of this.
It is SO easy to get there from the Quarter, a 20 minute Streetcar (or Bus) to City Park (stops directly in front of the Marriot), $1.25 each way (have exact change!) ... just the idea of getting in and out of the fest with a car and finding a place to park sounds like a nightmare to me, not to mention parking in the Quarter itself either costs a fortune or is next to impossible to find. Also, Cabs are everywhere Downtown...
3) I've seen the list of stuff you can and cannot bring, but how strict are they...like can I sneak alcohol in if I've been successful at Roo and Rothbury or is security more on top of things?
Based on my own experience from last year, I had a flask in my pocket and just got waved through untouched every time... but my friends with bags got every zipper opened and searched every time
Thanks for the info. I figured parking would be a pain. A 20 min streetcar sounds just fine. I assume they run at least until the fest ends? Also, I'm thinking of trying to make a 24/7 show or two....if the Warren G show starts around midnight, is there time to get from the end of Eminem's set over there to HOB?
Going for the first time this year and my gf is coming along. Both looking forward to it! A few random questions...appreciate any help from those that have been before!
1) Would you [glow=red,2,300]expect a lot of people dressing up all nights [/glow]or just Halloween?

4) Are camp type fold up chairs allowed or just the small beach chairs like at Roo? [glow=red,2,300]not sure, but smaller is always better[/glow]

in years past, i've seen people dress up everyday. our group tends to do a simple "costume" during the day (of celebrated halloween) and then go "all out" that night in the quarter.
like they said above, public transport is EASY so if you don't really want to pay for a rental, you will be totally fine.
security doesn't ever seem any more strict than other fests.
y'all will definitely have a blast! see you in nola!

I agree also. I will say that I was hesitant the first day with security. But the weather would get cooler at night for the headliners so we brought bags the rest of the weekend and they would just glance to make sure there weren't caring nuclear weapons in them basically. That was just my experience, but test it out on the first day and it could easily work out the same way. There were cops walking around the venue and they were more engrossed with their conversation with one another than the people partaking. New Orleans is a wonderful city. Don't pee in the streets and NO GLASS. Besides that do whatever makes you happy.
Schedule's up....Looks like they moved a few people to different stages/areas and don't see any additions. Schedule looks pretty full with fairly short sets as is, so probably for the best. Ween vs Eminem, Robert Randolph vs Kravitz, Janes vs Pfunk vs Jello, Wolfmother vs Driveby Truckers are all rough conflicts for me. Wish they'd spread some of them earlier in the day instead of cramming them from 4-10. And Widespread Panic in the middle of the afternoon just seems weird! Ah well....gonna be fun and now I can just explore the city some each morning...or recover from the night before

That's fantastic news! I'd been thinking that by 2 a.m. Satuday night, I'll probably be wishing it was only 1 a.m. so I'd have another hour to rage before passing out in the gutter. Now that problem is solved!

well, and unless you're setting time frames for yourself, don't forget that most new orleans bars in the quarter don't really have a "closing time" per se. so it may be that you're passing out in the gutter at sunrise!! here's to the big easy!!

You're right, I'll most likely pass out around sunrise. 2 a.m. iwill be more like black-out time, rather than pass-out time. ;D

I knew that no matter what I posted. Someone would prove me wrong. Actually, I usually look at Accuweather first, but have been having problems getting it to load lately.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mr. Clinton. I missed him at Loki last year, after arriving late that night and getting turned away at the gate and having to camp in the National Park that night.
