Okay, here's an idea. If you could create a festival, and make it from the ground up, with a lineup, a location, a poster, set times, and other things, what would you do? This is the question I pose to you. Other festival message boards have done this, like Coachella and Lolla, but I didn't really get the idea from them. People will vote on your lineup and poster, and it'll kinda be like a festival tournament.
The rules to this are gonna be a little less strict then the boards I mentioned above.

You must submit a poster by Saturday, April 25th. Since I'm encouraging creativity, the poster should be creative as well. If you aren't the best at photoshop (that's me), don't worry, you shouldn't be judged on your poster, you should be judged on your overall lineup. The poster should include the lineup of your festival, the location, and the name of your festival. Any other stuff, like movies or any special stuff, you can feel free to type out, cause that stuff doesn't normally go on a poster.
You must think of an original name for your festival.
You must think of a location for your festival. This could be anywhere in the world!
You must pick dates for your festival. Your festival can be as long as summerfest, or as short as a one day festival. It can be during any month of the year, any day of the year.
If your festival makes it through the first round, you will then be required to submit set times for your festival within a week’s time of your win. Your set times are not bound in any way. You can play all night, like Roo, or you can have a curfew, like Lolla.
You may have up to 200 artists total playing your festival. Whether this is Comedy, Spoken Word, Music, or something else.
Be creative! Try and think outside the box.
Try and keep it at least a little realistic. This is not your dream festival, that would be too easy to put together with artists from your iPod. This is a festival with bands that are mostly touring now. Try not to have like, 6 headliners on one day. That's not realistic.
Restricted bands, to keep this realistic: The Smiths, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and any band who's deceased (Sublime, The Beatles, Nirvana, etc)
Questions will be asked, and I will try to answer them as completely as possible.
Anyone with any post count can sign up, but I want to have people with at least 50 posts to vote. This is to filter out the friends of the person who created the festival.
Sign up as soon as possible, cause I want to get the final entries in by Saturday the 11th, to get the ball rolling on this. Sign up is first come first serve, we can't have 200 festivals cluttering up the forums. I hope for about 30 festival entries. If we don't get that, that's ok.

FAQs – completely stolen from the coachella festival thing, I'm lazy and want it up Q: What’s the deadline for signing up? A: The deadline is Sunday, April 12, 2009. If we don't have enough people, or if people didn't see this until too late, I'll extend the deadline. Q: Do I have to submit a poster for my festival? A: Yes, you MUST submit a poster for your festival for it be officially entered. The poster must be submitted by Sunday, May 3, 2009. Q: How do I submit a poster? A: Either PM me, or email me at tacobunny2@msn.com Q: What format does my poster have to be in? A: I will accept only jpg (jpeg), gif, or png files. No bitmaps (bmp), PDF, or .PSD files, sorry. Q: My lineup is so large! It takes up more than one picture! A: No problem, just send in the whole thing. Q: I don’t have Photoshop skills and I can’t create a poster on my own, what do I do? A: If you don’t have skills to create your own poster, then feel free to ask around the board (or real life friends – what’s that?) for people to help create a poster for you. Poster art is important people! Get creative. If you can't use photoshop figure something else out. Below I have listed some creative solutions:

Q: I’m not very good at creating posters, but I made one myself anyway but I think it looks crappy…will people make fun of my poster/skills and not vote for me? A: People making fun of someone’s poster will not be not be tolerated at all, and if someone does make fun of one, their votes from there on out will not count for the rest of the contest. Q: Is the poster really important? A: Well, yes. It shows your lineup. If it looks like a 5th grader made it, I really don't care, as long as it has all of the things you wanted to show on it. I really hope that people don't vote on how well the poster is made, cause I know that some people will struggle with that. I hope that people look at the lineup and what else the festival is offering, and take that into account, but I don't know each person who is voting and everyone sees something different in a poster. Q: Do I have to make set times? A: Set times are only required for those festivals that make it to the 2nd round and beyond. Q: What format does my set times have to be in? A: They can be images (jpg, gif, png etc) or plain text, or excel format if you wish, I do not care. Q: How do I submit set times? A: You will be contacted by me if set times are needed from you, don’t worry. Q: How do I go about dividing up set times? A: This will be entirely up to you. Q: If I submitted a poster, do I have to remain anonymous? A: The moderator of the contest will NOT disclose any information (as in who created it) relating to any of the festival/posters submitted. If you yourself would like to claim and make known what festival is yours, then please feel free. But be aware, people knowing what festival/poster belongs to who could/may affect their opinions on who to vote for. That seems to be the way it goes. People will be told who's festival was who's after each “matchup”. Q: Will you enter a festival? A: Yep! It's the reason I started the thread, I want to see how my festival would do up against other festivals. Q: How will you pit the festivals against each other? A: Totally randomly. I will not be biased in anyway, and even when my festival is up against someone else, I will choose the opponent randomly.

Yes. Thank you for doing this. I posted in the random thoughts thread the idea but wouldn't have time to handle all the entries because it's getting towards the end of the semester. I'm totally in.
One thing that I noticed on the Coachella board that worked well was the prices for bands, as well as prices for different locations. Along with one reunion act, which I thought was pretty cool. We might have to find a way to add on some bands to the lists because I know a lot of people on here would want jam headliners (dead, phish) that weren't included to my knowledge on the coachella rules.
question: how do we handle reunions in this festival. should it be real reunions going on now, or, could it be a band that has members who are still alive that could reunite for our hypothetical festival?

I LOVE this idea, and I would also LOVE to compete, but I've got too much else going on right now. I'm very excited to see what y'all come up with, though.

This also, the way the Coachella board worked it they allowed one reunion feasible or not (all the members do have to be alive) which makes it kind of cool to see the kind of reunions you get without going crazy and just having everybody reunite (Pavement, Smiths, Talking Heads etc)
