Yes. Thank you for doing this. I posted in the random thoughts thread the idea but wouldn't have time to handle all the entries because it's getting towards the end of the semester. I'm totally in.
One thing that I noticed on the Coachella board that worked well was the prices for bands, as well as prices for different locations. Along with one reunion act, which I thought was pretty cool. We might have to find a way to add on some bands to the lists because I know a lot of people on here would want jam headliners (dead, phish) that weren't included to my knowledge on the coachella rules.
Yeah, I saw that, but I just don't want to restrict people from choosing who they want to pick, you know? That's why I said that these rules were gonna be a lot more loosey goosey, haha. It's not that I'm lazy or anything, I just want to see what the users can come up with. You'll notice that the coachella board had the maximum bands at 60, and I just don't agree with that. I do REALLY hope that people keep it realistic tho, and not add 5 headliners for one day, you know, but what can you do.
question: how do we handle reunions in this festival. should it be real reunions going on now, or, could it be a band that has members who are still alive that could reunite for our hypothetical festival?
Hmm. Depends. You could do both, I guess, but don't do any of the restricted bands I posted above ( The Smiths, etc) and keep it realistic, like Fugazi would never play a festival.
I LOVE this idea, and I would also LOVE to compete, but I've got too much else going on right now. I'm very excited to see what y'all come up with, though.
That's a shame, I would've loved to see what you came up with.

This also, the way the Coachella board worked it they allowed one reunion feasible or not (all the members do have to be alive) which makes it kind of cool to see the kind of reunions you get without going crazy and just having everybody reunite (Pavement, Smiths, Talking Heads etc)
Ok, I'm gonna change their one reunion to you can have three reunions, over the whole festival. This has indeed been the year for reunions, and I could see a festival with three reunions in it.
And those of you who are bad at photoshop, I'm gonna be editing the rules and faq in a few minutes, so check back there.
Just for counting purposes, does that mean you're in?
Alright, edited the faq to include some stuff about photoshop and set times. So far 29 people have signed up!
Ok since I've had a question about the reunions, here's what's gonna happen with that.
Be creative with the reunions. If the band is a band that has had a crucial member die, use your best judgement on this. You can substitute some one for the deceased band member if you know that the band has wanted to reunite.
If it is a problem with certain members of the band, you can cut one of them out, and substitute someone that you think might fit their place. (In Bikini Kill, subsitute Kathleen Hanna for someone else)

so hows everybody going with this? i almost got my lineup full, i figured the easiest thing was to just make a spreadsheet with a schedule and fill it in. got a few more slots to fill in then time to work on the poster.

I can't stretch my lineup any further without it looking ridiculous and unfeasible. I think the number I stopped at was a good number though and enough to minimize conflicts.
Do you guys think I should bring the deadline for the posters back a little bit? That'll give us time to complete this thing before Roo.
Definitely, i've got exams coming up, i'll never study
Ok, I just want to get it done before roo. I think I'll adopt the same system from coachella's thing. They've been a big help, haha. So to clarify you would like the deadline to submit a poster moved earlier or later? I'm all for both. It just seems that the majority of people already have their lineup set and just need to do their poster, and figure out their set times in case they make it to the second round.
"I want to be fair as possible to all posters, so I think I'm just gonna draw seeds randomly. Each fest will be randomly chosen to a number of 1-whatever we end up with. Festivals that get the last twelve will compete in the 6 wild card rounds. I think that's just the fairest way to go about it."
"Also, here's how I'm thinking voting should work.
Wild card: 2 days Top 32: 2 days Sweet 16: 2 days - when set times start Elite 8: 3 days final 4: 3 or 4 days championship: 4-5 days "

How specific do we have to be with our location? Can we just pick a town in a rural area or desert and set the event in the vicinity (similar to what Bonnaroo does)?
As for the posters, I wouldn't stress too much. I just put one together in pages out of a background image and five text boxes. I imagine it should be fine. It doesn't have to look professional quality.
Really though, go look up the Leeds/Reading posters if you need a basic idea that you can easily make without even Photoshop. That one's actually surprisingly low quality for such a big festival. All proof that the poster isn't all that important - even among the real fests.

Well you have to know that the location would be able to hold the festival. You can't hold it somewhere where all the stages won't fit. The location can be anywhere in the world, but I think it does factor into the voters decision. I would love to hold a festival at the Pyramids in Egypt, but I doubt that many people would fly there. And they do have shows there, though.
Yeah, like I said, I'm not looking for the most authentic posters.
I hope that everyone knows that the posters aren't due for another few weeks, so you may want to think some things over.
Obviously Pink Floyd isn't going to come back from the dead, but is it off limits to have Gilmour and Waters unite to headline a festie in this contest?

I think thats an awesome idea as far as the set times to judge.

it actually doesn't matter now, i ended up getting most of my bands on paper, i just have to organize them, so it doesn't matter after all.

Maybe we should extend the wild card to two days? I don't know, one day just seems like a very short time. Short enough that I could easily miss an entire match-up - even my own.
Also, are we putting everything in this thread? If we were making separate threads, we could easily run multiple matches at once. Start up a thread every day, and finish them after two days (or possibly wait until there is a decisive victor). Mind you, this would only really work in the early stages.

I posted some ways you can make your poster in the FAQ, if you're having trouble on your poster. I think I'm gonna draw mine and scan it in.

Alright, I'll extend the wild card to two days.
I would hope that the mods move this into a subsection, so we could make separate threads, like I've said before. Just like the band a day, this should get it's own section, I think.
