Wow, this webcast is awesome! I was afraid it was going to be lagging really bad like I heard it did last year. It's great how they have at least four cameras and the one on stage can right up close to instruments. Not HD but perfectly clear and no lagging whatsoever. At first there weren't any headliners on the list but now they will be showing Jay-Z tonight. A+ webast!
Oh dear. The complaints have already started rolling in.
Quotes from the Coachella Message Board (people currently at the fest posting from their phones):
"Crazy line. About 30 mins in. - moved 100 yds. Is there only one line? WTF? How come it is SO much worse than last year?"
"In previous years, getting a shower involved waiting in line for an 45-75 minutes behind dozens of people. This year? Seven trailers for more campers than ever, with hundreds in line at each. Time to shower in the sink Glasto style."
"Agreed. Shower situation totally blows. Total fail for not having them spread out."
"B R U T A L"
"Heads up #Coachella goers: Indio Police out on the prowl. They are keepin it in check."
"Dear Goldenvoice, quack you for having 3, let me repeat that THREE guards checking bags for a 75k people festival. quacking absurd, retarded and unforgiveable. Ive been in line for an hour and a half now."

Yep, they really blew it this year. In a completely different way than bonnaroo but they really blew it. This might even be the death of Goldenvoice. There were riots yesterday because people didn't feel like waiting almost 3 hours to get in. People that had tickets were turned away because they RAN OUT OF PARKING. This sounds worse than Woodstock 99. This could be the most mismanaged, understaffed clusterfuck of a festival ever. It's amazing how they were able to do this so well for 9 years and managed to just completely fuck it all up this year. I guess they just got REALLY greedy and sold way too many tickets without thinking about any of the logistics involved in actually pulling this off.
Thread on the coachella message board. Check out all the long time faithfuls and how many posts they have, saying that they're done with this. It's pretty amazing.

Some of that info is wrong in the La Weekly article. Yes some people are going crazy at the fest but it seems about half of it was the traffic and parking. I haven't read yet from the new car camping bunch because I bet they are lovin it .... I spent 6 hours in line trying to get into Bonnaroo one year, so waaa waaaaa .... cr****

Maybe I was exaggerating a bit but I do think it's worse than you're saying. Lots of people are also complaining about not being able to get into tents to see bands and the art not even close to being up to par. The new car camping bunch is also complaining but people's perspectives are different based on their patience.
they are trying to be bonnaroo and sounds like they failed. i know i know, they have been around longer than roo and they are well known in their own right. but bonnaroo changed everything, as far as us fests goes. with 80,000 people camping. it's really amazing what roo pulls off every year, considering. this just proves that not everyone can do it.

Alright Day 1 was awesome musically.
The Avett Brothers were great, they got kind of a small crowd though, will be much bigger at Bonnaroo.
Yeasayer was good from afar.
Specials were a great surprise.
Missed GSH (sorry brewboss) to get a great spot for Grizzly Bear, who played a typically wonderful set.
LCD were amazing, hopefully some of you caught it on the webcast. Giant disco ball, James in a white suit, playing to a huge crowd.
Fever Ray was expectedly weird, although I high tailed out of there to see Whitest Boy Alive, who had a really great crowd and good set.
About the crowds, I really didn't have any problem getting into sets as long as I got there 10 minutes early, 30 minutes and I could have gotten a crazy good spot.
Some complaints Lines were ridiculous on Thursday, can't imagine what getting in Friday was like. I had to wait two-three hours to get in the tent only line, the first hour of which the searches were only being done by 1 person. Hundreds of people, getting thoroughly checked by 1 person. Lines for showers are absolutely ridiculous, like hundreds of people, it took me 2 hours to take a shower today, and that was a short time. Lines to get in the venue aren't well managed at all, too little people doing searches. Total clusterfuck. I really didn't think I'd complain about short sets, but they take the wind out of a lot of great acts. Grizzly Bear was just getting going when they had to stop, LCD could have used a lot more time as well. The music has been great, the scenery is great, but they've seriously dropped the ball on logistics. Bonnaroo could teach them a lot.

Now the question is, will Damon end this clusterfuck on a much needed high note? If he would've got Blur to play, I'd be there. It sucks they're not showing Gorillaz on the webcast. I'm sure someone will film it but I'd like to see it live as it's happening.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

running out of wristbands and parking? how is that possible? why did nobody think of htat. I guess that's kinda similar to bonnaroo running out of schedules/maps for people. Why is it not a high priority to have the essential items lol?
Post by cornquacker on Apr 18, 2010 16:13:30 GMT -5
Sounds like yesterday wasn't any better. There are several people from LA on their board with over 10,000 posts who have been going every single, saying that they're now done with coachella for good. No second chances. It's pretty shocking. People have been getting trampled and injured. Even some Gorillaz fans with three day tickets are not going today because they don't want to deal with all of it again.
I, personally, would be extremely pissed if I flew all the way out there to have to wait in those insane lines. I'm impatient as it is, this would be drive me nuts. Especially because it used to be quite the opposite of this and coachella seemed like the most empty, lineless festival in 08 and 09. It was great. I'm actually considering bonnaroo now just to spite goldenvoice. Stevie Wonder, The Melvins and Conan are great but so much of the top of the lineup is just too insulting for me to give them my money. Hmmm

Musically great but I heard about how Coachella "killed" Bonnaroo this year...sounds like only one festival killed themselves. Not enough parking, not enough wristbands, hours long waits just to get in a tent, shower lines beyond long, people getting turned away, ONE PERSON doing searches!!!!....if this is "killing" Bonnaroo, what hey hell is it doing to Coachella's reputation??? I watched Jay-Z, he sounded good...as he will at Bonnaroo!
Bonnaroo will be better than this. They are better prepared to handle this. I feel sorry for those who talked about how this years Coachella blew Bonnaroo away. Lineup is not everything. Don't believe me? Ask the people who got turned away or did not get a wristband....

I went to both Bonnaroo and Coachella last year. Roo was a great but Coachella had My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Paul McCartney, Chemical Brothers (kinda), Throbbing Gristle, Leonard Cohen, Beirut, Superchunk, Crystal Method, Brian Jonestown Massacre, yea it was better than Bonnaroo.

It's the 60's, 70's or 80's either you dumbfuck. The two that "matter" for you are from then. The Crystal Method are as good now as they've ever been, still in the prime of their careers. Them and The Chemical Brothers are consistently great live. I don't know why I'm bothering talking to someone with a Kiss signature.

Al Green, David Byrne, Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, Costello
Loveless is great and all, but I would prefer not to lose my hearing at a show. And really Beirut??? C'mon I know there had to be better bands at last year's Coachella.

Yeah...I think of great live bands, I think of the Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method, both of whom just set the world a blaze with their nothingness since the late 90's. McCartney is a legend and his last album was amazing. Are the Chemical Bros. even MAKING albums anymore? The Cure also is a legendary band with cult status. I have seen The Crystal Method and they were pretty good back in 1999. Have they done anything since? Would you put them in "elite" status? btw, the neg 44 by your name told me all I needed to know. Hate on KISS all you want, your opinion is -44 in my book as well.

Holy. Shit. This Sly Stone performance is one of the most depressing things I've ever seen. The guy's lost his mind. This is nowhere near to what you could call a performance

R.I.P. Coachella 2010, jk. Although I can't remember last year at Bonnaroo saying anything negative about any performance. Hopefully the Gorillaz made up for all the hassles. I'll be interested to hear your guy's complaints/raves when you get back home.

Cohen is great, giving him 45 minutes is criminal, other than that Coachella got pretty much owned lineup wise. Same thing for 06, when Bonnaroo had Radiohead, RRFB, Oysterhead, Dr John etc.., and they had Depeche Mode, and Tool.

Ahhh the Crystal Method and their number one hit..... The Theme from "Bones".
