"However, despite the show time listed at 8:30 p.m., Hill did not appear on stage until after midnight, according to the New York Times.
The stunt left fans voicing their irritation with Hill by greeting the singer with boos when she finally walked on stage.
"Don't do that. That's disrespectful," she replied to the fans, according to the newspaper."
Seriously? You don't think it's disrespectful to make your fans wait for three and a half hours? So very Kanye! ("You should be honored by my lateness.")
More than the tardiness, it's complete lack of understanding in why people would be pissed that makes me not want her at Bonnaroo. If you're ridiculously late, at least have the decency to feel badly about it. (I'm also talking to you, WALE!)
My friends went to Rock the Bells mainly to see Lauryn Hill and were majorly disappointed. Late in MD too, didn't sound good, didn't play long, bad show all together. No thank you.
I love me some Bjork, and I love me some Portishead but I don't think either are headliner material.
Headliners I would think more like Rihanna, Gaga, maybe even a lower-tier headliner (think Jack Johnson) for Grace Potter - she has been blowing it up lately.
Not to say I want Gaga or Rihanna, but those are women who really are current headliner status, and not just headliners in our musically educated minds.
...maybe even a lower-tier headliner (think Jack Johnson) for Grace Potter - she has been blowing it up lately.
I don't think they're there yet but they're well on their way. I saw them New Year's Eve and they kicked ass. They played two sets over about three hours, the second set was Big Lebowski themed with much of the movie's soundtrack and some rockin' costumes:
They've got the right attitude for Bonnaroo, too. In 09 they performed a set in This Tent, one on the Sonic Stage (including a signing session), and one on the Solar Stage. They took over moe.'s late night set for about forty-five minutes and Grace also performed with Gov't Mule.
If they keep having years like the one that just passed, they'll be headliners in the very near future.
I have seen Grace & the Nocturnals several times and it's crazy to now see them on VH1 Divas, Billboard, iTunes, Amazon top lists. I am happy for their success (and would love to see them on the farm again!)
Me & the hubby (and fetus) w/ Grace at Wolf Trap in '08, before she was a glam Diva but still rocking:

I went to rock the bells at merriweather, and I went to see Ms. Hill. I've been a fan since I was little, and never really thought I'd get to see her. It was a dream come true ... until it went down. She was about four hours late, and then only played three songs. Not to mention her new sound is at times jarring. I'm all for keepin it fresh for the artist, so I got into it. But three songs? Then I heard about the same four hour lateness at I guess NY, and have decided not to go to the show she's playing close by. Late is one thing. Not playing a lot is another. The unsavory attitude from someone millions look up to ... not cool. I would love to see her at Roo, and I will always love her music, but damn... doesn't seem grateful at all. And that's something I don't dig. /end rant. Sorry, when I see it mentioned, I relive the heartbreak. Could've been a church experience. Instead left a bad taste in my mouth :/

My wish would be for Janis Joplin or Big Brother and the Holding Company...but I guess that's a wasted wish since she's dead :/
In terms of things that are possible, I'd be all for Lauryn Hill if she actually played on time, but that sounds unlikely. Beyond that, Aretha Franklin would be awesome. I was at Obama's inauguration and she was really good there. I was really quacking far away, but I was impressed.
Kinda new to the boards here. Having attended Coachella the last 4 years and Lollapalooza the last 2 I'm looking to make this my first Bonnaroo. I dont really know what the vibe is like there but theres some of the female artists I'd love to see at 'Roo.
La Roux Florence + The Machine Robyn Fever Ray Scissor Sisters(semi-female)

Bump.
We've talked about Fiona Apple already in this thread. I don't think she would headline, but she certainly might be there. Her new album comes out this spring and I'm super excited to see if/ where she decides to tour.
bjork is the best answer but she would never headline because her set is better suited for a late-night slot. would be great though.
also, in response to something form many pages ago, dolly parton doesn't have a theme park named after her because of her celebrity, she built the place. that does not make her more famous than willie nelson. starring in 9 to 5 does but that's not gonna get you a headliner spot.
