because people who make wristbands out of scraps or scalp tickets forced their hand.
it's crazy the amount of people that get into festivals with sewn together wrist bands from scraps of other people's ones. I don't have much of a problem with this other than I hope it's comfortable.
11/29: Judas Priest 12/31: Cake 2/4: Tool 4/21: Van Halen 5/17: Styx, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent 6/7-6/10: Bonnaroo 6/11: Yankess vs Braves 6/21: Iron Maiden 7/10: Roger Waters
Yeah...It can't be just tied to the name of the person who bought the tickets. If they allow you to buy more than one ticket it has to be transferable in some way. This did make me a little nervous though because I just got hired for a new job this summer and am still waiting on confirmation from my boss if I'll be able to get off the weekend of 'roo.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Last year, they only scanned it on the way in and entering certain VIP areas. Hopefully, it helps keep non-VIPs off the bleachers. But really, I think it's just an authentication thing. Mostly for keeping counterfeits out of the 'Roo.

I really like the idea of this. I don't have to worry about carrying cash around, plus it sounds like it may make entry to the farm on Thursday a lot faster.
If it's like this, still some kinda cloth bracelet but the plastic part had the chip in it, I wouldn't mind as much. Still, RIP Bonnaroo tickets. Now if only I can find the right box with my bracelets in it...

Nooooo :[ I've been collecting all my tickets since my first concert I went to :[ this makes me sad
Plastic or cloth, I'm going to wear the shit outta that wristband as long as I can :] Or maybe I'll just make my own home made cloth one and wear it next the the plastic one
I think you'll still be able to sell your tickets but scalpers won't have the chip so the bands won't work. Still a little creeped out through
Why won't the scalpers have the chip?
Scalpers may have a chip but whatever is programmed into it. Think of it like a coupon at the grocery store...there are thousands of coupons and thousands of products but you only get the discount if the product and the coupon match.
I expect the scalpers may add chips but they shouldn't match. the data Roo puts in.
I wonder if you can "pre-load" the wristbands? I wouldn't mind doing that. But it might make it hard to keep track of spending...you know us girls and our credit cards ^_~
i dont want to bring in conspiracy but rfid chips with your name loaded on that thing already can be tracked and pinged. so if you have previous drug charges they could flag your wristband and ping you from a gps device. yeah it sounds crazy but its reality..
I didn't go VIP last year, but from what I read on here, the wristbands were never scanned when coming in/out of Centeroo or anywhere else. I thought it was just to discourage counterfeits and scalpers.
I do hate not getting a ticket, I frame my Roo tickets, and well a plastic wristband doesn't give the same effect on the living room wall...

RFID can only be read from up to 300 feet away (the record) with the right amount of equipment. So unless the DEA is setting up millions of RFID reading devices on highways that lead up to Tennessee to catch low level druj users. Also bonnaroo would never screw us over like that.
You have no idea how many people use fake wristbands, or maybe you do. This is an obvious fix to that.
Although I don't have to pay for my ticket to Bonnaroo, it always pissed me off to run into the wook that had his buddy scan the wristband and print out strips of paper to tie around their wrists. Everyone else paid or worked for their ticket, and these people just hopped a fence.
I'm glad they're doing something like this, as long as they're comfortable. I just wonder if the staff wristbands are going to have a chip in them too.

They're already following you now. Your house is bugged, your phone is being tracked, and this communication is being monitored. You have been identified for thought crime as well, and will be elminated shortly.

Ugh, this sucks. Back in 2007 my wristband was so filthy and uncomfortable...it was so unpleasant all weekend and then I cut it off as soon as I got home because I couldn't stand to have it on. And it's barely got any of the letters left on it.
The wristbands since then have been WAY better - they're not uncomfortable at all and I can leave 'em on for ages after Roo.
And now we're regressing to the horrible plastic wristbands. And not getting actual tickets.
Plus the lines trying to get into Centeroo are already a problem and this will probably just make them worse. Especially because usually when it gets really bad they'll eventually let everyone go through without searches, and idk if they'll still do that if they're supposed to be scanning every wristband.
I really hope they are at least transferable...it seems like they would pretty much have to be, especially with people having bought tickets before this was announced.....but I won't know for sure if I can go (or if my boyfriend can come with me) for a long time so I would be much happier if I knew I could grab one from StubHub or something.

It being the 10th anniversary, wouldn't you think a ticket would be a nice souvenir to have? I always save the tickets from shows I go to, and to have a chintzy plastic wristband only would be kind of poopy...
^^^Agreed. This is Bonnaroo X. We should get a ticket. I have a framed poster, wristband, and ticket from all the Roo's I've been too - starting with 2007 and the old hologram plastic band. Im gonnna be sad if we dont get even a commemorative ticket.

I can't imagine that they wouldn't take money in Centeroo - I mean really, are they going to set up every frozen lemonade and arepa stand with a scanner? Notsomuch...
Where did they say they are going to offer the option of putting money on your band?
someone posted this earlier.. not sure if it is refering to roo but something to think about..
From an article
Music fans will pay electronically rather than using cash by a RFID wristband and cash top-up systems. Fans can use the wristband to buy everything from food and drink to t-shirts and their favorite CDs. In addition,
Although the investment on infrastructure for such RFID systems will be significant, the prospect of allowing fans to use wristbands have many benefits. The big advantage of using RFID wristband is to avoid has millions of pounds of cash on festival sites, which can be seen as a security risk. The wristband can also be use like a entry ticket, that function can lead a easy controlling entry to different parts of the festival, such as backstage or VIP areas.

I doubt we will see anything like that this year. Maybe in the future if these things work out.
