alright guys, need some opinions about this: i only live 20 min from the farm and have volunteered the past 2 years, so i didn't have to fight the traffic and the lines. i was originally planning this year on leaving my house around 10 am-noon and was hoping i could just cruise right on in...now with the gates opening early officially, when do you guys think i should leave? i really don't want to leave my house, be at the farm in 20 min, and have to wait in line for 5 hours...when do y'all think i should leave in order to get in a "moving" line and not have to wait hours?
The line should be gone by Saturday, yeah if you leave your house around noon on Saturday you can be inside Bonnaroo in less than an hour.
Saturday?!?!?! you do realize bonnaroo starts on thursday, right?! i'm not missing anything, so that's def out of the question...

Your best bet is to show up when you want to get to roo. Cut everyone, and get in at the gate. It produced great results for me last year. Could not recommend more.

Maybe he was getting you with double sarcasm.
this...i'm a huge smart-ass, so it's good to see i'm not alone...
it's funny you mention the cutting line thing...my buddy did that last year while i was already in volunteering...he's going with me again this year and has already told me if i'm following him, be prepared to follow no matter how he gets in...i've shot that idea down and told him we gotta do it the right way (he was coming in by himself last year), but we'll see...i'm hoping to run into a constant moving line by the time we get there, so there really won't be too much of a wait. we don't have to get on I-24, so that helps...
The line to get in can be fun if you have good people with you. Nothing is quite so funny as accelerating as soon as your friend starts peeing next to your car because he doesn't want to do it on the hill because people can see him.
I love how you can always tell which cars in line have started drinking because they have to get out and go pee every 10 minutes
Last year a girl had to go. She paced back and forth, nervous to go into the trees. Once she got the confidence 5 other girls materialized out of nowhere to go too. It was pretty humorous.
Get there as early as possible if your doing TO.(and don't care about parking in BFE), Or you may find yourself setting up camp in the dark. People will be pouring in all night on Wendsday for sure. Because of this TO could fill up pretty quickly. This will be my first year but from everything I've read this is what i think. I'm 5 hours away and hitting the road Wendsday morning. I'm talking 12:01am Wendsday morning.
So wait their filling up TO first? Sorry got confused on that. So what if we want to park by our car, theyll still be filling that at the same time right?

Tent Only is optional and you have to move your stuff there. You are always parked with your car when you first enter the campgrounds.

And TO is first come first serve with a limited amount of space, so those wanting to use that option should get there ASAP as they have published that they're opening TO Wed night.
I'm wondering if -- and I'm sorry if this theory has been posited already and I missed it -- part of the motivation for this is to allow day parkers to enjoy Thursday as well. I think that in the past that they wouldn't allow day parking until Friday. I know that they wouldn't allow vehicles to leave and re-enter until Friday. Maybe this is part of their solution for that. Just a thought.
Gary Chardonnay - Official Bonnaroo Staff (Official Rep) 13 hours ago We encourage you to arrive early to decrease your wait time! We will be parking people the way we have in years past.
BFE it is.

So if I go in with the first crowd, get in BFE and my neighbors pack up and head to TO...that space is free game, yeah?
I'm hoping we are surrounded by people that want Tent Only and double/triple our space
I would think not. People may arrive and head to TO, then find TO is full and return. I may do TO and will return to my car a few times a day. I would hope that anyone who wants to use that space would ask first. If you have not seen them and they have not set up for a day then yeah I'd think it OK to use that space.

Last year we found TO space (small, after considerable searching) later Thursday afternoon. I can't imagine it's going to be packed Wednesday night this year. I think if you let your neighbors know what your plans are, they tend to be in the festive spirit.
Also, there will be a few TO openings Friday or Saturday, as always. There were several people thrown out last year for selling corn. Hell, one guy didn't make it to midnight Thursday.

Being my first year for the Roo, I am contemplating the Wed pm "drive in" or wait until Thursday am early. Can anyone share their experience arriving Wed night as far as the wait in line? Is there a shorter wait time Wed night as opposed to Thurs am?
It would suck to be in line for hours and not get to a camp site until the wee hours of the morning then having to set up in the dark.
PLUS - getting there early seems like BFE is the place to be, so Wed arrival is not all that favorable.

Historically, it's supposed to be quicker. Last year was an exception due to weather conditions causing cars to get stuck. This is the first year in which they have officially announced that they're opening the gates Wednesday night, so nobody is sure of how much this will impact Wednesday night traffic. I'd say that it may be more than years previous but still less than Thursday.
