Come on.....really? Roo has improved a ton of things since I started going. Granted, it may not be as extensive as Coachella has seemed to improve things but there are LOTS of areas Roo has fixed/made better over the years IMO. I agree that some things seem to be ignored/never fixed but let's not act like Bonnaroo is the same logistically as it was in the first few years.
Whats the last production upgrade Roo has done? Put a screen at the which? The line to get in is still hours long, the bathrooms are still a mess, the shower lines are long as hell (the VIP showers that Roo uses are the regular showers at Coachella and there's 3 more trailers for a much smaller campground), they have done zero upgrades to the tents. Just plop em down add some weak ass lights at the front? The art (or lack there of) has gone way downhill. The food is the same food its been for the past 5 years (except for the addition of the food trucks..thats the one upgrade that made it better)...just cause you add 10 frozen lemonade carts or 5 more arepa stands you dont get to claim a wider variety of food. The have continuously overlooked the fact they need to add shade especially near the which. Making the line to get in go from 15 hours to 10 hours is minimal improvement. I dont feel Roo ever spends any money on production. The Sahara tent alone adds something new every year. I didnt wait in a security line longer then 20 min at Coachella and that was the first day when they were making it a point to search extensively. I just wish I felt that when I went to Roo I could say "Oh look what they did differently this year with {insert} stage or tent" The big improvement this year? Fixing the ditch between the Which and What? because the past 10 years it was too hard to fix?
I agree somewhat, but I somewhat don't. Coach isn't Roo, and it never will be. Part of Roo's draw is its earthy, backwoods vibe. Making a "Sahara Tent" with tons of production and such just doesn't sound like Roo to me. Screens are necessary for obvious reasons, but Roo is very minimalistic and I appreciate it for that.
The ditch, I agree, took too long to fix.
As for security...going by the comment below me...I would agree
They added spots for shade...but there's only so much you can do on a farm.
Overall, I think Roo could improve, but i'm not upset with how things are. Again, I like the minimalistic vibe at Roo.

just a random pipe in from me, but the Coachella searches were much more extensive but the lines were half as long as the Roo lines. Coachella had full pat downs, with the crowd being split up by males/females. The difference being they actually had enough gates/security to handle everyone, unlike Roo. So that would be the point there, not the fact that we actually get searched, that's a necessary hassle at any major fest.
Would that be earthy as in "Earthy - a New Fragrance in Hair Care," brought to you by Garnier Fructis?" And backwoods as in "The Backwoods Mobile Phone Charging Station sponsored by T-Mobile?"
Come on. I love Bonnaroo a bunch but you cannot act like it's some homespun fest put on by a few people who do it for the love. It's a huge, massive business, and it's as corporate as Coachella.
and they save money wherever they can. instead of spending tons to make the fest experience better for people.
And before someone goes off on me...I love Roo, if it ever comes down to only being able to attend one fest it will always be Roo, but this weekend was an eye opener in terms of how far behind Roo is falling with production.
at the same time though, i'm sure a lot of those improvements in production and facilities get passed on through ticket prices. and even if there isn't a correlation, i'm sure the festival organizers could use it as an excuse to raise prices. bonnaroo gets a little more expensive every year, but it's still cheaper for 4 days of bonnaroo than 3 days of coachella. i'm sure there are people who would gladly pay the increase in ticket price associated with changes in facilities, but i kind of view it as more of a trade off, especially when i'm still getting longer set times and late night. find ways to beat the heat, take dumps in the morning, buy a cheap shower tent on amazon. works for me.
edit: now that i think about it, the bathroom thing is probably a lot worse for girls since they don't have the luxury of pointing and shooting. i am kind of surprised they haven't found a way to get those things emptied out/cleaned a little more, actually
exactly what NoD said...Coachella fixes their problems every year and improves on the issues from the previous years while Roo doesnt.

Ncbst answered this pretty well but I wanted to chime in also.
It's almost not even comparable how much nicer Coachella was logistically this year than Bonnaroo has ever been in the 4 years I've went. They constantly wet down the roads to prevent dust, the sound was noticeably much better, there was excellent video on every stage and tent, the free showers which I waited in line at most 15 minutes for. There was plenty shade if you needed it, better art.
Bonnaroo has a lot to live up to and they're falling way short right now in my opinion.
can anyone else chime in on whether this is what it's like in terms of the clientele at coachella? i found this yesterday, and it seems like a lot of people there are just really....superficial
Know the difference between day clothes and night clothes. For day, girls should think cut off shorts, printed tops, sundresses, bathing suits or anything sold at Urban Outfitters. Guys are safe with shorts, throw back t-shirts or anything you owned in the 1990s. Remember, we're in the desert so it's hot during the day and cool at night. Don't catch a chill once the sun sets. Bring layers that still look good in photographs. The potential for rain really throws a wrench in the plans, so bring something you don't mind getting dirty. A mud-stomping Black Keys concert might prove to be the most Instagram-able event of the year
i mean, seriously? i realize it's huffington post LA, but it almost seems like it has to be a joke.

I mean, I feel like you're looking for anything right now against Coachella, but I was surprised at how well prepared people were clothes wise. Like, dudes with sweaters and a nice crisp collared shirt underneath. I felt like a shlub in my hoodie and shorts.

Im the first to argue Coach and Roo are different animals in a sense when it comes to vibe and lineup, but realistically they are both huge festivals on rented space. Adding more security lines, more showers, cleaning the port-a-johns more often, watering the roads down, etc. doesnt take away from the "vibe" it makes it a safer more logically run festival. The whole "its a farm" thing is irrelelvant...Coachella is on Polo fields. they dont have a permanent infrastructure. They are in the same boat. I never once had a problem seeing a show at a packed tent because of the screen placement. even the tents had screens on each side. Only once did I have trouble hearing in a packed tent and it was for Goyte and I was pretty far out. I couldnt even imagine ever needing VIP at Coachella. I cant imagine going to Roo without VIP (and thats only to feel semi comfortable)
FTR I dont want a "Sahara" at Roo...thats why I go to Coachella. "Oh look they painted the bobbleheads" Give me something seriously.

I'd have to do a little more research but off the top of my head I think the improved roads through the campsites, the What stage being made permanent (though not sure if that really helps things....it might), the Which Stage screens that we've been asking for, the movie tent has seen significant upgrades, the comedy tent has seen significant improvements, the big number of food trucks (which DID offer a wider variety of food...it wasn't just a few more frozen lemonade stands), and i'm sure there is more if I just think about it/look into it.
I'm not totally certain but isn't Coachella primarily not a camping festival? Like, I know they have camping but what percentage of the festival goers are staying in the campgrounds every night? I honestly don't know but if more people are staying at hotels and houses then it totally makes sense to me why the shower lines aren't that long. At Roo most people need a shower but if a good amount of the festival-goers have hotels or things like it they can wait and shower at the end of the day.
I did try to make it clear that I was saying that Coachella has seemed to do much more improvements. I just took your line about "Bonnaroo never does" a little personally I guess because every year I go to Roo I notice improvements. It's clear that they aren't for all the same things and definitely not as extensive as Coachella but my main point was that Bonnaroo does upgrade/improve their stuff.....even if Coachella clearly does it better.

i'm not, and i would actually like to go to coachella sometime. it's just not easy financially since i live on the east coast. i wouldn't have posted that "survival guide" if the consequence of sound article hadn't kind of reminded me of it. i usually wouldn't just take 1 guy saying "the kind of people that go to [festival] are like this" as gospel, but that coupled with some girl basically making your appearance as important as the music just seemed like maybe there was some truth to it, and i was just asking if anyone else noticed the same thing. like i said, i would like to go some time, maybe even next year, but it also seems like it might not be my type of scene.

Those people are easy enough to avoid, but they are there in a little higher number than Bonnaroo.
It all depends on who you're seeing at the festival. Certain bands attract different types of people, Wild Flag had a great crowd, same with Beirut and Flying Lotus and a bunch of others. The Weeknd (who put on a great show) was filled with a little more people just there to be seen though.
I feel like those people are everywhere these days, regardless of the festival. I choose to ignore it. Just let them take pictures of themselves at the festival, update their tumblr and Facebook so everyone knows they're there, then they'll go on about their day. They'll get tired of this scene soon enough and something "cooler" will grab their attention I'm sure.
