Some pictures. It was my first festival with my new camera, which is nicer but has less of a zoom. Tried to focus more on the site but there's some band photos peppered in.

I though I looked pretty sweet each day, clothing wise. Cooler temps ftw.
I also saw really great bands each day, I taught people how to dance/freak the f**k out at a good show, and I spent some amazing time with people I love and love being with.
Just cause you don't look like a dirty hippie doesn't mean your not there for the right reasons.
That being said, one of the things I love about Roo is that by the end of it everyone looks like the same dirty disgusting mess. I'm just saying though, don't judge a fest by it's outer coat, so to speak. The crowds at Refused/Modeselektor/Death Grips/First Aid Kit some hip "hype" acts such as Azaelia and lots of others were 100% devoted to the show. Like any fest, your gonna get a mix.

Shadow came out before the set and said "stick around for a surprise" and then towards the end of the set he played a song which featured De La Rocha's vocals. Then all of sudden De La Rocha hops out from backstage and performs with Shadow.
The set hit hard. The bass was literally shaking people up it had so much force. I've never felt anything like it.

Glad to hear that DJ shadow was great as well. Would have loved to have caught it. But my word, that Mode set was one of my favorite live edm sets ever. Up there with Chemical Brothers and Trentemoller. Went to another place, and I was completely sober (cause beers don't count right? )

That's awesome man. Endtroducing... was a fundamental album in changing the way I view and pursue music and is still one of my favorite, if not my #1 favorite, album of all-time. Can't wait to see him live eventually.

Was he in the Shadowsphere?
Yea, the visuals were some times very cool, some times kind of cheesy, still a cool idea.
Funny cause I cant stand M83 on record but I actually really enjoyed what I heard on the live stream. And that was one of the bad shows?!?
I'm biased, as I saw them four times before touring their other albums. I might not be the best person to ask as I absolutely cannot stand the Peter Gabriel vocals and the bastardizing of old songs that they used to just CRUSH live.
I love me some Shadow and I am bummed I didn't see his set. I have seen him a couple of times and he never fails to disappoint. With that said, Modeselektor was the best set of the weekend for me. They tore that tent apart! Do not miss them, Weekend 2'ers.
Nice pics, NoD. Every time I see pictures with the clouds and the dreary weather, I just cannot fathom that I was there during that. I never in a million years would have expected to have to deal with these conditions. I loved every minute of it. The weather was unbeatable this past weekend. It looks like it is going to be a huge scorcher this upcoming weekend, so I feel even better about it.
M83 definitely had an overpacked tent, but they killed it. Morgan Kibby was going nuts onstage. I thought she was going to explode.
How close were you?
I was in the back of the tent and I could barely hear it.
I walked up right as Mazzy Star was ending. I walked through the Gobi and was maybe 15 feet back from the left video screen. I thought the sound was fine. You're the only person I've heard say any show was too quiet. (Except maybe Mazzy Star.)

It was ridiculously packed with rave kids waiting to hear Midnight City (who all left right after it.) They all left for Couleurs though, and that was awesome. The I kind of wish that they were on the Outdoor Theatre, so it wasn't as crowded, but I liked the tent's ambience.
Regarding the crowd at Coachella - it's so different than Bonnaroo or any other festival really. The Sahara tent is ridiculously packed most of the time, which leaves quite a lot of space at the other tents. Yes, there were quite a few people there just to party and be seen at Coachella, but it works out for us festies. I walked up to the rail on a number of big shows (I arrived five minutes before Feist, Refused, Mazzy Star, and Laura Marling and either got on the rail or right next to it.) and for the bigger shows (Pulp, Radiohead) you only had to be there about 5 hours in advance to get rail. The rave kids did bring a few shows down (the rail crowd for Pulp looked so bored, the aforementioned M83 show, soundbleed from the Sahara into the Mojave, and occasionally, the Gobi.) but it was incredible nonetheless. I would totally recommend going next year to anyone who even remotely enjoys music.
was mazzy star disappointing? on the webcast it was. i'm a big fan, but i was not at all thrilled with that show.
You could tell they were having some sound problems (especially Hope), but up close, they sounded great. I guess the sound quality was worse everywhere else. They would be way better in a club anyway.
