If you like Cody on Washboard, listen to the WSP show from Wanee last year... Surprise Valley>LowSpark>drums>LowSpark>Surprise Valley mega sammy Cody plays the washboard all over that one.....melllllttt
I'd like to remind everyone that after DJ Jazzy Jeff, to go to VMH because we can see Fishbone again for only $5 with DeLuna bracelet: www.facebook.com/events/277909078989140/
This was just confirmed 30 minutes ago. Double Negative will be playing a FREE show at the Alabama Music Box on thursday night. They will be touring with OFF!, Negative Approach, and The Spits after this show.
If you like punk/hardcore music and will be crossing this path to get to DeLuna, feel free to hit this one up.
I tried to get them both with OFF! and Power Trip a while back and they wanted too much gotdamn money. Besides, punk/hardcore is dead in Mobile...only 20 people would have paid $15 for all four bands.
I doubt that. The mallcore kids don't like real hardcore. They like that bullshiit music with all the "breakdowns" just like the edm bros like all the fake dubstep (i.e. brostep) with all the "drops." And if a bunch of mallcore kids showed up to this and started "hardcore dancing" (i.e. slinging their arms around like a helicopter) they would probably get punched in their face by some old scumfuck within seconds.
Awesome! There's a great show/party the night before at the box too if you're interested: Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Gary Wrong Group, and Super Nice Bros. www.facebook.com/events/439910636042945/ Quintron and Gary Wrong are playing Gonerfest later this month, which I will miss because of the Animal Collective show in nola. This will be the third time Gary Wrong Group has ever played a live show (4th if you count the 30 seconds they played before the cops shut them down for playing outside near an old folks home during Gonerfest last year). I'm gonna feel like shit at work thursday and I'm probably going to take all of friday off instead of a half day. I'm going to need some rest to prepare for the epicness that is in store for us friday.

That's really cool. Only been able to go to the AMB once, saw The Sunshine Factory and Handsome Scoundrels, was a good show. Only been there once and I like it 1000x better than Soul Kitchen
The correct answer is that I go to a buncha shows there. ha Seriously, not really a promoter, just help them find stuff every once in a while that's not on anyone else there's radar. I just want to see good shows in the town I live in instead of having to drive to nola, p'cola, b'ham, atl, etc so much.

I highly doubt I'll be off that Thursday though. I don't even find out how much vacation time I have until Tuesday. Plus I need the $$$ for DeLuna.
They just started posting pics of the stages going up. I'm so stoked. Foo's are my fav, and I've never gotten the chance to see them, and PJ isn't too far behind them in the favs category.

I didn't get to go to Hangout in 2011; I had money problems at that time last year and it just didn't work out for me. I was heartbroken. It sucks being a broke college student with a shizzy job (at that time in 2011 I was a broke high school student with a shizzy job).

Don't know how much you guys know about Twothirtyeight, but they're doing a "two-night-only" reunion over DeLuna weekend: Playing in Atlanta on 9/21 at Masquerade and then playing DeLuna on 9/23, then playing The Handlebar that night on 9/23. $8. Paloma and MRENC opening.
I'm able to differentiate STS9 sounds a little bit. And don't get me wrong about NMA, I do like them, Luther in particular I find amazing.
Funny Luther anecdote: at jazzfest a few years ago Jojo had a benefit show for the New Orleans Musicians Clinic at the Howlin' Wolf, Down on the Bayou II. Tons of awesome guests, incredible show, that kind of thing. Well my buddy and I were the first ones in the door and were front and center all night. When Luther showed up, he plugged up his guitar and was trying to it setup in the middle of a jam, and the first chord he hit was really really fucking loud. My friends ear was right next to Luther's amp, and the sound was so loud he literally grimaced and grabbed both his ears with his hands. Luther saw him, and profusely apologized several times.
To me it was pretty amazing. I always tell me friend Luther Dickinson apologized for ROCKING YOU too hard. ;D
that was a killer night of NOLA music! man I can't wait for Jazzfest.
Anybody know of any preparties going on Thursday night? If it makes a difference, we're coming from Tampa.
Somebody had said something to me about the possibility of a Joy Formidable pre-show at Seville Quarter, but I never heard anything after that, so doubt it's happening.

Ah, you're a youngan! I can't begin to tell you how many epic shows/festivals that I missed while in high school and college. I was 15 when Nine Inch Nails toured with David Bowie and literally got my first job and vehicle within the same month (about a week or two too late though) of their Lakewood show. I blew it at least 5 times on seeing James Brown before he died. Alright, I'm going to stop thinking about this.
Who is Twothirtyeight?? Never heard of them, what kind of music are they?
POSTJACK- Dude, Down On the Bayou II was legendary! I was just getting into WSP around that time and missed out on that one. I heard it was crazy. I went to DOTB III last year, I was there from 9pm-5am. It was nowhere near sold out. Had a great time, wish I had been the year before. Panic is supposed to be doing Jazzfest for sure, and likely a late night show as well. There is supposed to be a DOTBIV next year too.
Foo Fighters at Hangout were f'n amazing. I watched the whole show from my balcony overlooking the crowd. The Hangout crowd that night was raging super hard. That Saturday at Hangout last year was by far the most fuckked up I've seen a festival before, including Wanee, Bonnaroo, Allgood etc. Everyone was out of their minds that day, it was beautiful. Saw many tittays that day.
Don't care for Twothirtyeight. Them shits is indie rock I guess. 9/23 is sunday and I will be leaving town before Zac Brown Band plays.
Hard to top saturday of Hangout last year. Mariachi el Bronx > Slightly Stoopid > Minus the Bear > Primus > Motorhead > Foo Fighters > Tony Clifton One of the greatest days of my life. Mostly due to that Tony Clifton show though.
Oh yeah, just checked Handlebar's website. Saturday show: Negative Approach, Guns To Fire, Zerox 82, The Goners $10 FUCK YES!

Twothirtyeight is what I would call a mix of indie and pop punk. They remind me a little bit of Sunny Day Real Estate. It's a big deal for Pensacolians because that's where they're from, and they're only getting back together for DeLuna + that Atlanta show. Their lead singer is Chris Staples, who's also in Discover America, of you know who that is.
