Who is Twothirtyeight?? Never heard of them, what kind of music are they?
POSTJACK- Dude, Down On the Bayou II was legendary! I was just getting into WSP around that time and missed out on that one. I heard it was crazy. I went to DOTB III last year, I was there from 9pm-5am. It was nowhere near sold out. Had a great time, wish I had been the year before. Panic is supposed to be doing Jazzfest for sure, and likely a late night show as well. There is supposed to be a DOTBIV next year too.
Foo Fighters at Hangout were f'n amazing. I watched the whole show from my balcony overlooking the crowd. The Hangout crowd that night was raging super hard. That Saturday at Hangout last year was by far the most fuckked up I've seen a festival before, including Wanee, Bonnaroo, Allgood etc. Everyone was out of their minds that day, it was beautiful. Saw many tittays that day.
yeah DOTBII was epcot for sure. so much talent on that stage, place was jampacked. I hope they have a similarly stellar lineup for DOTBIII. I'm sure panic will play in their usual Thursday slot at fest, which means I won't make it because I'll have class. I have never seen panic at Jazzfest for that reason.
Friday: DAY:Clear. High of 84F. NIGHT: Clear. Low of 68F.
Saturday DAY: Partly cloudy. High of 86F. NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Low of 68F.
Sunday DAY: Partly cloudy. High of 84F. NIGHT: Clear. Low of 61F.
I'll take it...
Yeah, the weather was my one worry about the change in date, but some cold fronts came in just in time this year. I really like that October date though, I hope the move it back next year but there was no way they could have competed this year with ACL that same weekend.

Leaving today once I get done with class! We've got our hotel booked, our bags packed, and our bodies ready! This is my first real festival I'm going to (besides Roo 11/12), so I'm way too excited right now.
Someone was trying to tell me last night that there would only be like 20K people at this fest tomorrow. I made a $20 bet that there would be twice that. I kinda hope that he's right just so it's not so gotdamn crowded though.

I'm on the same page as you. Less crowds makes everything easier, but I want this fest to do really well so it can expand and really come one of the premier festivals around. They did say they expected a sellout, but it still hasn't yet.

Local news said that apparently. I misheard and thought they said they expected "120,000" for the weekend...but a friend corrected me and said he heard 20,000 each night. The beach is more narrow than Hangout so I hope it is true, though I will believe it when I see it.
I hope everyone traveling to Pensacola has a safe trip.
If you get in today and get hungry, I'd check out Peg Leg Pete's or Lilo's Tuscan Grille for dinner, assuming you are staying out by the beach. If you are staying near downtown Pensacola, you might hit up McGuires or The Fish House.
I had more fun at this that at Hangout. Being able to dance around in the gulf during Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters was so much fun. The most epic thing that happened at the fest was seeing a marine jump off a boat with a huge american flag during Pearl Jam's last song (yellow ledbetter) and seeing him run full speed through the whole crowd and make it all the way to the front of the stage waving the flag around. Then Mike McCready stayed on stage and jammed the star-spangled banner Hendrix style to close out their set. It was beautiful. Foo Fighters put on the best show though, despite the sound going out a couple of times during one of their songs. His commentary afterwards was gold. You could hear the bass from paper diamond on one of the other stages and he said something like "you mean these pacifier suckin', glow-stick wavin' kids have no problems with their sound for their set and ours goes out? were we rockin' too hard?" Guest appearances by f'n Bob Mould and Joan Jett during Foo's set!

caddyshaq and I were both able to get the Pearl Jam poster before they sold out:
Deluna def kicked ass, it felt like the first Hangout except not as many hippies. The main issue with Deluna was sound bleed from EDM acts bleeding over to the main stage. If I am in the water on the beach, I shouldn't be hearing any other stages. It was really irritating but I was able to ignore it.
Hangout has to start letting people get into the water. It is fuckking stupid of them to not let it happen. Just put a few lifeguards and a swim at your own risk sign up. They are just being cheapskates or pusssies by not letting people out there. Being in the water during shows is the biggest appeal to me for a beach fest. Had a great time in the water during Pearl Jam, Jimmy Cliff and the Foos!
The biggest improvement this year was the Heritage Stage. They essentially had this last year, but it was in a parking lot. They moved it to it's own tiny beach area. Shitt was killer. The sound on that stage was incredible. Saw some of my NOLA favorites out there and they were all fantastic sets that were quite memorable. Hot 8 Brass band and Dumpstaphunk on Friday were great, and Anders Osborne on Saturday was so badass. It was like a secret party just for heads over there.
The late nights were also fantastic. Fishbone on Friday at the Vinyl with like 20 people and Dumpstaphunk on Saturday with like 40 people.

Well, I had an amazing time at DeLuna, seeing Foos and PJ and Joy Formidable was great. I got to meet Ritzy Bryan and Matt from JF, Corin Tucker and Angelo from Fishbone, so overall it was a great weekend for me.
Unfortunately, I don't think there will be a DeLuna next year. Did you guys hear all the horror stories I heard about VIP? VIP got ripped off. None of the stuff they promised came through, and then there was this deal with the Pearl Jam fan club that they got to go in the VIP area, and they had tried to force (using the sheriff's dept, who was pushing and shoving everybody) to get all the people already in VIP out to let those people in, people who had waited in their spots all day for PJ. It was riot-like. Then they let everyone back in at one time and people got seriously hurt, like "I can sue you for my injuries" hurt.
Didn't hear about that. But I did see no evidence of VIP being worth a single fuk and I'm glad I didn't buy one for $300 outside the gate! I truly feel sorry for the people that spend $1000+ on one. There was probably only 15-18K people at this fest and it was really easy to get from stage to stage and even get up close to most sets. It was way less of a clusterfuk than Hangout IMO. Far less crowd congestion leaving places.
Damn that is crazy about the VIP clusterfuck! I had no idea. How were the Joy Formidables? I wanted to check them out but ended up with a crew at Band of Horses and everyone was ripped and chilling out and I didn't want to make everyone move (needed to keep the crew together so we could rage FF).
Just compared setlists, Pearl Jam def played longer at Deluna, and played 4 more songs than Music Midtown ATL. I didn't realize PJ mixed up their setlist so much (songs and song placement). 28 total songs at Deluna, with 12 unique to the fest that weren't played in ATL. -Oceans, -Interstellar Overdrive, -Grievance -Save You, Once - Worldwide Suicide - Daughter - Of the Earth - Parachutes - Comatose, -Baba O Reily -Yellow Ledbetter -Star Spangled Banner
Foo Fighters- The Deluna and ATL sets were pretty much the same, both had a total of 21 songs. The only sifferent was Deluna got "These Days" instead of Van Halen's "Everybody Wants Some!!" (sad face), and we got I'll Stick Around and Young Man Blues instead of This Is a Call. The Bob Mould sit in was badass.

Yeah, people are going insane over it on their Facebook, making fake DeLuna pages and responding to people's complaints in douche fashions to make people think it's DeLuna responding to them and being dicks. And yes, everything sounded bad. Like, really, really bad. I hope someone else is running this thing next year. I heard nothing but negative things about the organizers, except for Gus Brandt (who now owns part of the festival). The people who I talked to said he and his wife were the only ones really giving them the time of day and were the only ones who actually cared about what was going on.
I agree with the crowd part, especially if you got there early, there was so much more room; you could get near the front with no issues at all for most of the shows pre-6 o'clock.
The only complaint that I had was the shuttle bus. The line for that shiz leaving the fest was ridiculous. One of the couples that were staying at our hotel said that their shuttle got into a wreck friday night after Pearl Jam and they had to be stuck for an hour waiting on police for the report and everything. That had to have sucked.
edit: Oh yeah, another complain is definitely the sound bleed from Windcreek Stage during the headliners. That was pretty stupid and I really hope that this is not an issue during Voodoo with the new location of the La Plur stage. I have a feeling that it will be pointless to be on the ferris wheel during voodoo to hear main stage acts this year due to hearing bullshit from La Plur just as loud if not louder.
We had fun at Deluna Fest but my wife got sick, so we didn't make it to Sunday. We enjoyed Hangout more, though. The festival grounds were definitely easier to get around than the Hangout, but it also felt really tiny compared to the Hangout. I fee like part of that was the lineup left a lot to be desired. After Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters, the rest of the line-up was mediocre at best. The festival felt pretty empty until the headliners went on.
And I agree about your guy's complaints about the noise bleed. Too be honest, I was surprised the Windcreek stage was in the parking lot. I figured it would have been where the Heritage stage was. And to make matters worse, those 2 stages and the stupid Red Bull DJ beach stage were conflicting all day. They screwed the pooch when they thought that up. "Let's put three stages right next to each other and have bands/dj's on them at the same time!"
While we are bitching... Parking sucked a lot worse than the previous couple of years. I think the festival employees were parking at the boardwalk, because it was full before the gates opened. Whereas last year and the year before, if you showed when the gates opened, you could have damn near any spot you wanted at the boardwalk.

Yeah, I saw that. Playing with Goatwhore too. Caddyshaw and I hung out with a couple of the Goatwhore dudes during the Judas Priest show in Biloxi back in December. One of them smelled really weird.

This was an awesome weekend! I really enjoyed myself. I lived in Florida my whole life, but somehow had never been to Pensacola. I must say, the beach was stunning, and was truly one of the highlights of the weekend. I loved being able to watch bands while in the water. The sand and the weather just made it a perfect environment for a festival. Everything was pretty close to each other too, and it never felt like a hassle going anywhere.
While the lineup didn't thrill me all around, the bands that were good REALLY delivered. Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam were unquestionably the best two of the weekend, and it being my first time seeing either was truly special. Zac Brown Band was a surprisingly fun headliner, and ended up being perfect on the beach. Other highlights were Band of Horses, Florence, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bad Brains, Blackberry Smoke, The Wallflowers, and Diplo. I also had a ton of fun at the Fishbone afterparty at Vinyl Music Hall (enjoyed that venue as well).
Overall, I really enjoyed myself, as I hadn't had a fest experience quite like it. That said, it would take a REALLY solid lineup to bring me back next year (if they have it again). There were times I found myself bored with the bands (in particular, all of early Saturday other than Light Resolve), and the lineup was really top heavy. Also, it was no Bonnaroo (although really, what is?). Deluna Fest gets a solid 8/10 from me (both Bonnaroos I went to get a 10/10, for comparison). Also, my top 10 favorite performances:
1. Foo Fighters 2. Pearl Jam 3. Band of Horses 4. Zac Brown Band 5. Bad Brains 6. Florence and the Machine 7. Diplo 8. Blackberry Smoke 9. Fitz and the Tantrums (This band surprised me the most. Would be higher if I saw more of their set. They made me a fan.) 10. The Wallflowers
Honorable Mentions: Fishbone (even though I mainly only saw them at the afterparty), Band of Skulls, City and Colour, Honey Island Swamp Band, Lights Resolve
my favorite sets of the weekend (I missed sunday's shows) 1. Foo Fighers 2. Pearl Jam 3. Fishbone (their set at VMH) 4. Trampled by Turtles 5. Bad Brains 6. Jimmy Cliff 7. Anders Osborne 8. Dumpstaphunk (their set at VMH) 9. Dwight Yoakam 10. The Gaslight Anthem
Band of Horses were surprisingly good though. I honestly got kind of bored at Band of Skulls and I am glad I did, because when I walked over to Gaslight Anthem it was literally right before Vedder got on stage with them and did State of Love and Trust.

The VIP disaster was mostly mitigated by Saturday. The Ten Club VIP was a big part of the issue with over crowding, but Gus straightened it out for FF. The two banks of porto's on either side of Windcreek Stage really made for some tough decisions when packed on the rail for FF and PJ. I'd also add Bonnaroo style signs at each stage to identify who's playing. The program was almost unreadable, and the cell was dying from pulling up the lineup continuously.
Pensacola was suprisingly awesome. We stayed on the beach, and had a decent walk to and from the venue, but it was nice to not have to worry about parking or driving. Dancing and bouncing on the sand did a number on my legs, much sorer today than after any Bonnaroo.
1) Pearl Jam 2) Foo Fighters 3) Florence 4) Gaslight 5) Wallflowers 6) Fishbone 7) Joy Formidable 8) Jimmy Cliff 9) Diplo 10) Trampled by Turtles

Every muscle in my legs are still sore from dancing on the beach. And going up/down some stairs and ladders at work yesterday was awesome...lemme tell ya.
So what was the deal with the PJ VIP club? How could they just go up in the fest VIP? That seems kinda whack.
My top ten: 1. Pearl Jam 2. Foo Fighters 3. Jimmy Cliff 4. Anders Osborne 5. Bad Brains 6. Dumpstaphunk (@ fest was better than the late night imo) 7. Band of Horses 8. Hot 8 Brass Band 9. Joan Jett 10. Dwight Yoakam
