I decided I want to wear a tutu this year! I started making one for a friend who was supposed to be going too and now she can't go. So I have an extra one... Yellow with blue and sparkly green. If no one else goes with us that wants to wear it, I guess I'll just find someone there to give it to??
That is how I ended up with my first one. Fawnmart made a bunch and mailed them out to us before Roo I never thought I would wear a tutu for any reason, but I have for the last 2 Bonnaroos and they are so much fun. You could give it away, or wear a different tutu each day.

I had someone offer to buy my tutu right off of me at Camp Bisco last year. I probably would have just given it to the girl if it wasn't my sunflower tu.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

OMG I want a Who rootu!! I have been thinking about making a rootu but I am about as far from crafty as it gets. I wouldn't even know where to begin and it probably wouldn't look very good. lol
IF anyone is interested these are available for cost of materials plus mailing. Attitudes Tutus $ listed under each picture. We will cover the mailing for the next few weeks (subtract $5 from suggested cost). (Hopefully this link goes to the 'available' album').
And as always we are here to help you in your Tu endeavors if we can.
Oh! I didn't know tutu's was a roo thing, too! I have a closet full that I've made over the years for running (apparently it's a thing to run races in tutu's) and have them in all colors like lime green and teal and hot pink!! I'll bring them and donate to the cause. They are just sitting there!

I'm not really crafty, but I've made a few for friends and for myself. It's really not hard at all. You basically take a piece of maybe 1 inch elastic and measure to your waist size. Pin together. Then get tulle (i bought the rolls from papermart.com). Cut into strips that will be twice as long as the length you want, i.e. if you want the tutu to be 16 inches long, then cut your strips to 32 inches each. That is the most time consuming part. Then you start knotting the tulle around the elastic (this is where you need to look at youtube). And add as much, in whatever colors, arrangement etc. that you like. I like mine to be fluffy, so I add a lot - so much that I really can't fit anymore on the waistband Warning** If you buy tulle with shimmer/glitter, you will get it EVERYWHERE and there is no end to places you will find it. I have one roll of it that I started to cut and stopped when I saw the mess.
This video shows how to loop the tulle onto the elastic:

it also doesn't take too long. I always talk my sister into helping me cut out the pieces and lay the layers out for me as I knot them. My favorite tutu I ever made was hot pink and white. I would do a a strand that had a long hot pink piece, short white, long hot pink. the next strand would be long white, short hot pink, long white. It gave it so much depth! got so many compliments on it, too. You really can't mess it up. And if you do, just take it off and start over!
I found the cheapest tulle rolls at hobby lobby (idk if you have one??) but they have every color, even glittery ones and i usually buy 2 rolls of whatever colors I'm using just to be safe. Also, if your walmart has a fabric section, they usually will tend to have the tulle rolls for cheap, too! I hadn't thought to price them online so next time I'll probably check out that website lol!!
Thanks for the Hobby Lobby reminder! I've never been to one because there's not one around me. I usually rely on JoAnns which has a limited number of rolls and then I have to go buy by the yard. The opened the first CT Hobby Lobby last year, but it's still not close to me... HOWEVER, I am heading down to NYC tomorrow and my route will take me near it...
And I agree about the sparkles. Sparkle tulle is so pretty, but SO not worth it!

Hobby Lobby is horribly overpriced and they hate women :/
...but really though, you can get cheaper tulle online and in the wal-mart fabric department.

depends on what you get i think. i know the tulle there is 4 bucks for a roll. walmart was about the same price. fabric and other crafty stuff, hobby lobby is over priced lol i know hancock's (idk if you have them there, but our joann's shut down so it's our only fabric store now) if you go to the wedding aisle, they have a limited selection of tulle rolls so you don't have to buy by the yard. i just go to hobby lobby for the tulle -- my store here has the biggest selection i can find. they even have camo tulle... if that's your thing (i live in the deep south lol)
Hobby Lobby will put tulle at 50% off every few weeks. I always check the app on my phone before I go. And I usually always check the tulle on the wedding supply aisle first because you get more. Limited on colors but for black & white especially it saves money.

I agree, but it's really my only option because it is the one nearest to me, on my way home. I have ordered online before & love all the colors you can chose from.
My Walmart has limit tulle rolls as well. And they just expanded/renovated and then rearranged and I've looked twice for the rolls and can't find them. I always think about ordering online, but have never clicked buy. Maybe today? Maybe.

Oh, and tulle is 50% off this week!
Now I am definitely going to try to pop my Hobby Lobby cherry tomorrow!
JoAnn's rolls are ONLY in the wedding department. No rolls in the fabric area. For my first tu a few years ago, I kept harassing Mayo because I was so nervous- didn't know what to get or where to find anything... she almost called my store for me! (I hate to ask for things)

Oh i remembber that Bonz! We made the how to make a Tu like a swamp yankee video for you and holly.
I find Hobby Lobby to be extremely expensive compared to what we get online. The only plus is they will have some high priced but very different designs of tulle. <-- usually run 4-5$ for 15-25 yards. A normal adult tu uses in the vicinity of 100 yds of 6" tulle. The designer ones get expensive quickly.
I've only bought at JoAnn's (hopefully that will change today/tomorrow), and I think it's 3-4 bucks for the 25 yard rolls. so 4-5 for a fancy one doesn't actually sound that bad to me! haha. What site do you usually use fawnmart? Papermart?

fawnmart would you have time to craft a dalek tutu for me? I can help source ideas if you'd like. I just don't have the time or skillz to make it myself

Aww I hate to hear this (about hobby lobby hating women). I love hobby lobby. I've never looked into buying much of my crafty supplies online though. I tend to get most of my ideas walking through the store. And I wish I had known about the glitter mess a couple months ago. I used glitter tulle on my tutus and WHOA, it was everywhere! But it looks amazing and I just put the finished tutu in a garbage bag. I don't plan to pull it out again until roo, and who cares if I'm covered in glitter while I'm there.
How much tulle is too much tulle?!?! You guys are right about how much cheaper it is online. I have the tulle in the cart for a tutu that I know I need to make for Thursday night (to match a tshirt that everyone in my Roo crew will be wearing- although I am not camping with them this year), a surprise tu for my best friend, a couple extra pretty colors... I STILL WANT TO ADD MORE.

It goes beyond just them hating women on a basic level. They want the right to opt out of female contraceptives like birth control and Plan B under Obamacare.

You can never have too much tulle!!
Somehow I knew that would be somebody's response. I'm already at 50 bucks though (estimated 8 dollars shipping).. I just need justification to buy the tus.

I generally buy 2000-3000 yards at a time. Never enough! Cheaper by the dozen.. We buy 99% plain colored tulle and add our own sparkle/glitter. (I should qualify that TLC and I combine our orders to be sure to get volume discounts so that amount if forthebotofus.)
