I'm a hooper. I love your moodhoop, is that the cosmic? I've been looking at their rainbow and neon to get once I find some extra money. I have an led from troohoops.com, the phoenix, that I'll be bringing to Roo and then two or three other hoops for day time. I thought of putting some sticky tape on them just because I'll have clothes on and I can't do any of the knee tricks with capris on but then again everytime I drop it (a lot) the dirt will stick.
I have the Blaze from Moodhoops, and I actually have minis in the rainbow - I had the neon but exchanged it for the rainbow. Neon is nice and bright, but there is no movement in the lights. The rainbow is rad because it's looks white/uv when still and then bursts into rainbow trails when moving.
I had tape on my hoop last year and with the heat it got a little icky, (dust and dirt gets under the tape) but it wasn't a big deal for me. If you have some 1inch gaff tape you can split it in half (or in half again, it will rip evenly) and line the inside with a thin strip for grip. That's what I have on my everyday hoop and it works great.
I'll be brining several hoops with me as well, LED and I'm thinking about getting some UV polypro for daytime and evening. You'll most likely see me with one of my good hooping friends. I have short brunette hair... if you see me come say hi and hoop!
This is a great site to get UVs from. Glad you said that about the neon, I defiantly want movement in the lights. I have gaff tape on all mine and one with sports tape on it, which is a little more sticky. What do you do with your hoops once you want to put them down? Do you worry about someone taking them?

I'm always entranced by you hoopers! I spin poi, and as a result of watching y'all through the years, I've developed a more dance-y style. I'm not incredibly technical, but I love big swooping movements, and incorporating more body movement into my spinning!
I'm thinking of buying some floytoys (flowtoys.com) for the festival season. I've seen them a lot at shows recently. Anyone have any first-hand experience?
I've been hula hooping for exercise recently and I'm getting pretty decent at least compared to before but would never have the nerve to attempt it in public just yet.
We did buy an LED hoop while at Roo last year because we thought our daughter would like it and it literally stopped working in a week. I think we paid $40 for it too, I was so mad!
That's an awesome picture! I have a moodhoop in spectrum but thinking I *need* the new neon before I leave for Waka>Roo!!! Just went over my packing list to see what I can leave behind if our stuff including my hoops don't fit into my Ford Taurus

The decent hoops start around 100 bucks for led. That sucks that yours stopped working, i'd take that thing back to roo and see if the same vendor is there
@ abrakapokus - I usually am with several other people so I place my extra hoops near them. If anyone was interested in the hoops they would ask to try one, but that's about it. Luckily the 'roo crowd is pretty friendly

bdiddy - I was in your place about two years ago, you'll be surprised how quickly you progress! The first year I brought my hoop, I pretty much only used it by my camp - I was terrified of hooping with others watching, but being able to hoop outdoors with live music is amazing!! Now, I have so much fun it doesn't matter who's watching
As for the LED hoop, they really are just like any other electronic gadget with lots of mechanical challenges, except they get a whole lot more physical abuse than say, a Laptop. $40 is on the very low end for one, and the one you had was probably very basic in it's construction. You can actually make one yourself pretty easily (http://prodmod.com/) That site may also help you troubleshoot what's wrong with yours too. It might be something as simple as a loose connection... Good luck with it, no matter what, it still sucks to have a new purchase break
Thanks for the info squirrel, I'll check out that website. We did buy one of the cheaper ones from the vender but at the time our intention was for our daughter to use it so we didn't want to spend a ton. It would be nice if we could fix it though.
Maybe you'll see me out there at one of the future Roo's! My thing now is that I'm finally at a point where I can keep it up for a long time and walk around a bit, I'll have to start learning the more fancy moves and actually dancing.

Bdiddy you can also make glow hoops using glow sticks that will last for about 6 hours. You might also try craig's list, ebay, or a hooping forum to get some used leds.
Just started hooping- would like to learn from some of the experienced hoopers. I have DVD's from hoopnotica.com- very helpful in breaking down the moves and troubleshooting.

I haven't watched that movie. I know quite a few tricks but I'm not great at incorporating them with dance. So that's what I'm trying to work on. Youtube has some great vids for learning new tricks.
Does anyone know if there are any vendors that will be selling Polypro hoops this year?
No clue, in the past I've only seen one official vendor booth that has hoops and they have had the traditional style of black PE tubing. \ Are you wanting to see/try one in person before you buy?
I just ordered some UV Tangerine polypro tubing from HoopSupplies...I'll be using that mostly during the day and some at night if I'm not using my LED. hoopsupplies.com/shop/?id=14&collid=78
As for all inforoo hoopers, if you spot me feel free to say "hi" and we can hoop together!
for now im pretty deep into the gloving scene, if your not familiar with it take a peak at my video. I normally do it at electronic shows, but im pretty excited to give light shows to different genres of music Radiohead is where id really like to record a show.

Right on! First i've seen of someone doing this really well. Mostly just see people with the gloves and not doing them to the music. I haven't gotten my hoops for day time yet. I'm still unsure of what to do. I want to get the metallic but i've had it cut my skin before so still unsure.

Great glove work! If you bump into me spinning poi at 'roo (Or any spinner really, I found most of us love to talk shop with anyone!), just ask for an intro. I'd be happy to show you some stuff to get you started!

I saw a guy doing glove work at one of the late night shows, I think it was flylo. Anyway I got up the balls to say "Hi" and that I really liked what he was doing. He was the only one who I really saw doing anything with them at Roo.
I'm trying to become a hooper! I can waist hoop all day long, but I realized watching videos on YouTube really wasn't helping me learn tricks, so I recently signed up for a 6 week course here in Nashville that starts in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited!!
I'm trying too! I've only had my hoop about 2 weeks now, but I can lift it from my waist- I still fling it across my living room and knock stuff over 90% of the time, but so what, I get it up there first! I can hip hoop, and I've been able to shimmy to my neck a few times. I finally started to get the hang of leg hooping (slightly) last night. But so far I've found once I start to get the hang of something, I am able to do it in a day or two.
YOU guys, Daniroo gave me a hoop as a gift for speaking at her weddin' I haven't tried it yet, but im soooo gonna. And Abra is gonna hook me up with another hoop in a couple weekends, and we're gonna hoop the poop outta the afternoon at Mike D's partay! Im pretty excited about it!!!
