i have a friend who does hooping/poi and whipping.. it doesnt say she cant bring a whip into center roo but i wasnt sure if anyone on here had any idea if its alright or not?
My friends and I were obsessed with The Future Hoop from MoodHoops. We all chipped in and ordered it for us to share (since we all basically live together and go to the same shows/fests). Best investment ever! We are still getting used to how it works and feels, but we can't put it down!

Me and my GF will make sure to be behind you. That rediculously awesome hoop + hoop skills = no need for corn or the ability to see the stage. win/win
Played with a friend's DIY hula hoop this weekend. Found out I can sorta hoop, but need more practice. Going to look into a budget-friendly DIY or ready-made travel/practice hoop, I think... Keep at it for a while and then I'll eventually save up and get a cool LED FutureHoop or something very similar with cool patterns. (I found 1 a while back that let you program in your own designs which sounds cool. I forget the name)
Got my DIY hoop made and taped Friday night Also found a girl who posts tutorials I like on YouTube: gemgen101
She's the one I watch too!! I really like the way she explains things, I taught myself the lasso/halo from her videos.
I got a new hoop the other day. The heavy beginners hoop I had was bruising my hand when playing around with it. I love having two! I haven't been practicing much, but I am going to make more of an effort.

I've been wanting to learn to hoop for a while! There's only one class in my area and it's at a time I can't go :/ If you're self-taught, how'd you go about learning?

YouTube! Hooping.org has lots of info and they post videos of tutorials all the time. When I first started, I just watched tutorial videos and tried to learn 1 or 2 new tricks a week. The best, in my opinion, is Caroleena: www.youtube.com/user/Caroleeena
Hoopnotica has some dvds, but I don't think they are anything special.
The best thing, really, is to get a few basic tricks down, then just jam out to your favorite music. Amazing things will happen.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Thought this was the most appropriate place to put this. Any chance this is any inforooster ?
This girl has had this video posted several times. She's the reason i started hooping in 11. I didn't see her last year and she has never spoken up if she is on here.
I have started gloving a little. I just need to come up with 75 bucks to get a legit pair. So far i love it!
If the hoopers wanted to do a web chat or skype learning session we could.
Everyone who does all the hooping/poi/etc should post in this thread the shows they will be showing off their talents at. Would be cool to spot an inforooster that way.

I’m pretty much self-taught. I started hooping by watching a few videos (look specifically for beginner videos), and just learn how the hoop feels on your body. The first couple times you hoop just focus on how the hoop moves and feels on you. Always remember that you control the hoop, and you bring it to your body. You don't bring your body to the hoop. Get good with hooping while walking/turning around. Then start looking at beginner videos for vortex, helicopter spins, ect. Also, look at multiple videos of the same trick. People hoop differently, so they explain it differently. You’ll eventually find your “hoop muse” (someone who you hoop similar to), and she will become your favorite person to watch and get ideas from. Don’t think about it too much. If you can’t get something after a while, move on to another trick. Watch videos of girls just flowing; you’ll get ideas that way. If you can’t get a trick ask around (in here, your friends, YouTube videos). There is usually one little stupid thing that’s making it hard to get a trick, and usually people can give you their advice.
abrakapokus, I was going to say the same thing! I’d love it if we had hoop sessions online. I’d love another hooper to watch me and give me honest advice! I’d love to help any other hoopers who have questions too.
