That is crazy that they were writing citations in the campsites this year. If Manchester starts getting smaller crowds and starts having to fill holes in their budget at least they will know why.
The ATVs started rolling around RV campsites early Friday morning. I saw them bust the same group of younger kids (18-21) twice. It was pretty crazy how often they slow rolled by camps. Saturday during the day I think I saw them at least 10 times in a 3 hour time span.
All you can do in situations like that are warn all your neighbors and keep stuff out of plain sight. They would drive by and we would give them a wave and get nothing but a glare back.
Sucks that so many are there to take advantage of others. A weekend full of love and positivity needs to be just that, not worrying about people stealing and taking advantage or others.

No problems with police at all. One of the mounted guys rode by and told all of us we'd have to move our camps to the other side of our vehicles, 10 minutes into erecting our camps on the wrong side. He said the fire lane needed to be kept clear. We did get a serious stare by state police on motorcycles on the drive home, Sunday. The stare lasted so long, I was thinking it unsafe not to be looking at the road, especially on a motorcycle.
My wallet got thoroughly searched twice on entering Centeroo. By "thorough" I mean flipping through all the cards and money. Never had that happen before.
Sheriffs are the worst there. They consider it an annual fundraiser and the more citations they write the bigger the party they can afford.
Quacker, if you are referring to Manchester Sheriff's Dept here, you are kinda wrong on that.
Our Sheriff and Police Dept are some of the best, most professional, well behaved officers I have ever encountered and I believe it is because of roo!
Remeber, we bring in over 250 officers from other areas during Bonnaroo who are not indicative of the Manchester force.
Out of close to 100K total people here, to write the small amount of citations they write is actuall pretty amazing. Imagine how many they COULD write if they were "the worst, and look at it as a fund raiser" That is a very inaccurate statement!!!
We have to balance the enforcement of the laws with not running off the festival. There is a balance there! We could fill the jail and a temporary if we wanted to, they don't.
Just my humble opinion from someone who deals with them the other 361 days of the year.
roofan, I wasn't referring to behavior or professionalism. We were cited last year (Coffee County Sheriff's Dept) and were obviously bummed out about it but they weren't over-the-top in their treatment of us. My point is that they look at Roo as an opportunity to fund their department and see that as an incentive to cite as many people as possible. It's disheartening to see folks cited for small usage rather than distribution. To me that's just a money-grabbing effort.
I had one guy checking bags seriously take 10 minutes searching my bag on Friday night. He asked where the smoke was at and if I gave it up I could keep my wristband on but if he found it he would kick me out. I didnt have anything that he would find so I acted really dumb. He even went to the lengths of checking inside every bottle be it aspirin or even the baby powder lid he unscrewed and shined his flashlight in asking if it was molly. After he found nothing he was like damn you arnt going to have fun without druugs.
Just little things like this that are so uncalled for.
I honestly dont remember. He was checking bags late night Friday before Radiohead at the entrance by the Other Tent. Blonde short hair kid no older than 23.
I had a volunteer try and shake $20 out of me to go out the entrance Saturday after Skrillex. The line was over an hour long to scan out and I asked if they would just open up a few lanes so the crowd could get though. The kid was like for $20 you can go though. I told him that he was a douche and should be ashamed of himself for trying to extort money out of people.

I always walked up to the gate with my backup fully open (all zippers unzipped) and because of that, I was barely searched at all. Then, Sunday night came around and the guy went through my stuff hard core and was like, "where is the weed?". I told him to keep looking but he wasnt going to find anything. He opened up my can of chew and everything. The funny thing was that I had two Pocket Shots of rum in my back pocket but he never checked there.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

I haven't seen much mentioned here about Centeroo but one of the guys in my party had just purchased some stuff valued at about $50 and had it stolen from him when he laid the bag down to pay for something else.
As for the cop/security people stuff, another guy in our group back at the campsite was approached by someone selling corn. Out of literally nowhere this guy shows up claiming to be with Bonnaroo and asking the two of them questions like who's the buyer, who's the seller ? He determines who the buyer is and proceeds to tell our guy that he can relax and is not the target of this bust. He then takes the seller off somewhere. A few minutes later the seller shows back up and we ask him what happened. He said all the guy did was take his corn, tell him no more selling and let him go - no citation, no calling in the cops, no nothing. Just confiscated corn. The guy looked like he was legit, cleancut, pushing 35 and had a walkie talkie that he spoke to someone over. It occurred to me when the seller showed back up that this could have been a scam. Still not 100% sure though.
^Not to mention letting people off with dismissed charges if they have enough money to make a "donation" to the county.
Really shocked about the campsite sitations this year. We saw them in VIP RV land as well.
Having stood in the blazing sun last year for an hour while the search and ensuing citationS were issued, I shall not ever forget the speech.
"Normally in Coffee County, possession of any amount is an immediate arrest. However during this one week, the Coffee County Sheriffs department is authorized to resolve such matters by issuing a citation. The citation is similar to a traffic ticket. It will be mailed to you after Bonnaroo. You may choose to pay the fine and consider the matter resolved, or return to Coffee County at the appointed court date to contest the citation. It's your choice how you want to handle it."
All things considered - citations are far better than an arrest if you are in possession of anything illegal.
All in all the Sheriff and his team were decent. The female sheriff was particularly kind to me. I truly believe she knew none of the infractions were mine. The summers breeze volunteer ferrit and his bullies that did the initial check for glass etc were the Arseholes that trashed everything.
The surprise part about the citations was the fine print that said pay the fine and do not have any additional law infractions in the next year. They reserve the right to rescind the citation and press charges if you screw up again - any type of infraction - not just having- within one year of the citation date.
Both citations arrived in RI on the same day last year, for the same $ amount. Couldn't help but wonder if the total desired revenue was divided by the number of citations to derive the amount of the fines because they were xxxx. and 62 cents or some odd number like that.
Getting into centeroo was a completely different experience each time I went in. Open audio recording has ALWAYS been allowed at bonnaroo. No mention of audio recording being prohibited anywhere online or in the guide that you get coming into bonnaroo. First time through I got stopped and I showed the supervisor the guide and he let me in. Next few times I went in they were just letting people walk in with no search at all. The 2nd time I came into centeroo on Sunday, the supervisor stopped us and wouldn't let us through because we didn't have media passes. The lady wouldn't even let us show her anything or explain anything and made us leave. We just walked down to the arch entrance and got right in.
I did have one guy search my stuff really good and said "you got any druuuuuugs in there???"
I did witness something inexplicable on the drive home, going east/south on I-24 and still relatively close to Manchester. There was a state trooper vehicle on the side of the road, close but not underneath an overpass. One trooper had a dog on a leash, standing next to the car. The other state cop was alone, walking away from the car through the tall grass, quite a distance, 20 to 30 yds. from the road, and continuing to walk further away. I don't know what he was looking for without the dog, and way too far away for anything to have been thrown that far.
So what would you guys rather get for illegal possesion?
A citation/fine
or
Sit in Jail all weekend of roo
??? Please feel free to take your time and think about it before you answer, this is not a timed test ???
The agreement between 'Roo and local law enforcement is for payment of overtime, not a new jail. Doubt local taxpayers want to cough up the money for new jail facilities which only get used a couple weeks out of the year. Logistics.

Could have been taking the dog to poop.
No, the dog stayed with his handler right next to the car.
I was using the ADA entrance all weekend long. Never got searched once until Sunday. So I never bothered hiding the contents of the front pocket and I usually had a few beers in my backpack. Well on Sunday the security decided to check my bag. He looked right at everything I had. Then looked at me and I tried to give him my best "innocent me" smile. It totally worked because he closed my bag and handed it back to me and told me to have a good time.
Then about an hour later we were at Joy Formidable and had the two empty cans at our feet ready to be recycled when the show was over. A security woman came over and repremanded us for having "outside" cans with us. She then told us she was going to have to take them. I said ok and handed her our garbage which she threw out for us. Double win.
in pod 1, I saw a 4x4 cart with sherriff on it roll thru a few times. never saw them stop.
I went back to my car in Pod 1 close to noon to charge my phone a bit (what the hell is it with the farm?!?! My phone typically stays charged for 4 or 5 days, but it would go from fully charged to dead in 24 hours at Roo?!?!) and I saw some gray shirts on ATVs creeping real slow like down the rows staring daggers.
The only negative experience I had with "the man" was the horse lady at the entrance of pod 1 during the Wed. detention threatening to cut off wrist bands if you didn't go back to your car/camp (even if you had walked to pod 1 and your car was parked somewhere else). As far as getting into centeroo I only got thoroughly searched once. But I would also walk up with all zippers and bags open, and everything from my pockets in my hands. Usually they would just look in one zipper, tilt their head to the left, look in the next zipper, tilt their head to the right, then raise their thumb over their shoulder towards the scanners.

Wow, you guys have some bad luck. I've never had my car searched as I tell them immediately upon arrival I attend Roo every year and don't do glass/grass. I rarely get patted down entering Centeroo cause I'm barely clothed with no bigass bag. They can take one look at me and know I'm loaded, but they can't exactly open me up.
Hmmmm, we saw ATVs around RV on Monday morning that stopped (at eleven AM) to say, "Round 'bout three we're gonna be makin' all y'all leave the campsite!" but issuing citations? Not around us. Yay for that.

This isn't necessarily shady, but i got really pissed off when i saw that someone tagged one of the rented tents. Really dbag? They gave you 489637963 walls to graffiti and you go and tag a rented tent.
