Really not sure what I'm going to do before Cults on Saturday. Maybe a dope ass lunch at Katie's? fried catfish meuniere over fries?
Try to at least check out some of the first half of Reignwolf. I may end up watching all of him and just catching the last half of Cults. But yeah I'm probably getting there late on saturday too, because that's gonna be a long night. Monsters of Funk could be going on till 4 or 5 am.
Isn't Monsters of Funk on Saturday? STS9 is Friday.
Hey Voodoo Thread! I haven't checked in for a while. Looks like lots of us are going to Voodoo! Is there any plan for a board meet-up? We'll be staying in downtown New Orleans for a week, arriving 10/30. I think our condo is the Muses II. Any locals have ideas for Halloween? We were thinking Bourbon St. Also, any suggestions for food (especially vegetarian eats!), beignets, bars (we'll be catching STS9 at Joy Theatre), local musicians, voodoo shops, cemetery tours, strip clubs and somebody who can take me to a swamp would be greatly appreciated! Is there anything we shouldn't miss? Two of us have never been to NOLA before. My husband and the other husband just went to Monday Night Football a couple of weeks ago, but they only stayed one night. Looking forward to this vacation!! See y'all in a couple of weeks

I personally am going to hit up One Eyed Jack's on Halloween for Quintron, regardless if I score a cheap WSP ticket or not: Quintron and Miss Pussycat | zZz | Babes | Cock Hunter | DJ 9gris 9irs | DJ Pompeii but there is a bunch of stuff going on: www.satchmo.com/nolavl/concerts.html
Bourbon St. is terrible. Only go there for strip club and people watching. It's mostly tourists being really drunk and stupid though. After Quintron or whatever show you go to, hit up Frenchmen St. to see how the locals party on Halloween...there will be a bunch of people in costume and probably some crazy shit going down that will make you laugh your ass off. There are several venues on that strip (D.B.A., Blue Nile, Maison, Dragon's Den) that will have stuff going on too, but some of them will probably be sold out if you don't get tix in advance (particularly the ones that are already being promoted). There is late night foodz being sold on the street and I would assume some vegetarian fare too. I always go for the jamaican jerk chicken though if that guy's food truck is there, and if not there's some awesome authentic mexican food inside Cafe' Nigrel (it will be packed out in there though because there's no cover - free music). It will be a bitch to find parking close to frenchmen that weekend, so you're better off walking or cabbing it there. Even if you can't make it there on Halloween night, try to make it there at least one night after your voodoo after show.
You'll have to get off the St. Charles streetcar (green streetcars) at Canal and transfer to the line going to City Park (red streetcars). That'll drop you off at the New Orleans Museum of Art and it's an easy enough walk from there.

I'm particularly excited to see the new festival grounds. I have a lot of memories at the old grounds, and it will be weird not being "home" so to speak, not knowing my way around, etc, but still I'm excited to see the new setup. Hoping for better VIP sections at the various smaller stages, particularly the EDM stage. VIP section was way too small there last year, and sometimes difficult to even get into because a crowd formed around the entrance.
I'll be in NOLA this upcoming weekend for a wedding, then back again for Voodoo the next. Voodoo will be my last festival until Jazzfest, since I couldn't fit Bear Creek into the schedule this year.
Thanks for all the info! We've researched on Trip Advisor, but input from locals is always preferred And we will be at Frenchman St. for Halloween! Do you guys want to set up a Group Me for Voodoo? I'll figure out how to do it, and you can inbox me your numbers if you want to join. I'm working through Wednesday, so it might be later this week or this weekend. To the poster above me...I'm going to see Disclosure on Friday!!! I'm assuming that's a Disclosure reference
really surprising to me. i would think for the past 4-5 years that voodoo hasn't been particularly profitable, what with weak lineups and only medium sized crowds. i guess i'm wrong, i don't see why LN would have given rehage the job if he didn't know how to make money.
overall i think its a good thing. although it brings the big bad LN corporate presence into the NOLA scene, all too often NOLA is criminally overlooked by tours of all sizes. What with all the new venues finally showing up in a post katrina landscape (joy theatre, civic theatre, the saenger) hopefully this means NOLA will start kicking even more major live music ass.
EDIT: another thing I can give to rehage, post katrina he always gave plenty of playing time to local artists at voodoo. although I'm sure this move also saved him money as opposed to booking national acts, I still appreciate the attention given to NOLA acts at voodoo. i hope voodoo continues to book nola artists in the future.

We're excited for this.
Final plan:
Thursday: Free Rebirth Brass Band show Thursday afternoon, dinner reservations at Cochon Thursday night and Revivalists show at Howling Wolf late night Friday: Voodoo then Reignwolf after show at House of Blues (I'm sure Matt Cameron will show up to this show, but there's always a chance EV comes with) Saturday: Voodoo… leaving early for dinner reservations at Domenica… then Monsters of Funk show at Howlin Wolf. Sunday: Voodoo
The weekend can't get here soon enough. Haven't missed voodoo since before Katrina. Glad to be headed to NOLA. Feels like home. Anyone know how close the campgrounds are to the fest? Seems really close on the map but after last year I'm skeptical
Don't miss Galactic's Halloween show at the new Civic Theater! I was just there to see the Black Crowes and its an awesome (but pricey) venue. Just have your drinks before you head in because I paid $18 for a drink :/. I'm jealous of you folks heading down. I hear about a job in NOLA in January, so hopefully I'll be there for jazzfest
