I'm very intrigued with the fact that they said in Troy there will be an event at Hobart Arena. That place can hold a few thousand people for concerts or various sporting events (hockey being one but I can't imagine the ice would be down in August).
Where did you see the thing about Hobart? all I see on the website is about Troy Memorial Stadium
No word on GCJ. I'm sure at least some after parties will be at The Standard. No names announcement yet but I'm sure one will be coming. I can say for a fact that the standard will be rocking and rolling both nights. Plus there will probably be something at the amphitheater and a couple of other places.
Un-tear yourself. It's an awesome city, and you have free lodging if you want it, and it's going to be a big party. You won't be sorry

So distraught...I have no available weekends from August 9-10 through at least late November. And Guthrie would be a completely doable location for me. Ugh.....
is camping included in the ticket? It is not very clear whether there is an added cost or not.
They are charging for camping for the UK stop and a radio station in Columbus gave away tickets and camping passes today so I think there might be an extra charge.
But then the GOTR site says camping is first come, first serve. With the camp grounds opening at 12pm the day before the show starts (at 5pm) I hope you have to buy a pass to get a spot. I don't want to have to show up a day early unless there is a show in town that night.
The town is only a population of over 20,000. I have to imagine they are expecting at least 10,000 people to show up for the weekend so they have the early opening to help with the large crowds.
By the way, I can't believe they only listed No Name Bar on the GOTR site. That place is alright, and has a good view of te fort but there are a ton of much better places to drink down some brew.
A1A Aleworks (microbrew bar), Sangrias, Mojo's BBQ, JP Henley's (92 beers on draught), Milltop tons of great places. No Name is meh

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'm so torn. I want to just buy tickets for one of them as soon as they go on sale, but there are too many variables right now. I will be trying my damnedest to get to either St Auggie or Troy. Again, if someone wants to drive to Ohio with me...
Camping along a river sounds splendid. Lots-o-seafood at Surf's sounds quite magnificent as well
OK I feel like for once I can help a lot with something! I grew up in Troy, and I am way too familiar with the area. If you or any other inforooers are going to go please let me know. I'll send you my number and we can try to meet up at some point. Anyway.... if you or anyone else is debating st Augustine or troy, let me suggest you pick Florida.
Reason number one...
The logistics..
Troy is NOT set up to handle anything like this... I am amazed they are even attempting to do something this cool. It is a small town in Ohio, the traffic situation around the stadium is HORRIBLE for high school football games, I can only imagine the clusterf*ck this will bring..
Reason number two:
The Troy Police department.
While I personally have never had any problems with them, they are d!cks. They are overstaffed, eager to bust people for the minor-est of offenses, and WILL be in the general population of concert attendees. I would be very careful of even smoking, and def wouldn't be doing anything else anywhere near out in the open, that includes the "campgrounds". Also, even more so than normal, DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!! You WILL get a DUI!
Reason number three:
Camping on the river..
This is a joke... don't get excited about this, I will find some pictures of the Levee that you will be camping on. I'm lucky and have plenty of places within walking distance I can stay, but when I heard they were having people camp on the levee I just laughed... good news is by august that part of the river will be more or less dried up, so maybe some extra camping room!
Reason number four:
Have you ever been to Troy Ohio?? Well, obviously not or the debate between Troy stop vs any other stop would not even be an issue.
There is nothing to do here...ever... After parties?? Where?? The Brewery is by the river, and will actually probably be pretty cool that weekend. That is the only place I could see hosting any sort of after party. - Also where I would recommend hanging out at that evening if you want to "go out" in Troy. But again, the cops will literally be sitting outside of the bar three cars deep waiting for people dumb enough to drive away.
Reason number five: No Alabama Shakes on this stop =( Big time booo there..
Possibly the most important one, reason six:
We are no where near the ocean =)
I know it sounds like I am trying to bash my hometown ( and I am ) and I don't want to discourage anyone from coming, but if I were in between Troy and another stop, I'd go to the other stop.
now all of those negatives are clearly outweighed by the fact that you would get to meet and possibly hangout with me.. but I think that part goes without saying!! ;D
Seriously though if anyone is going message me so we can have a little inforoo gathering at some point!
And probably no Bonnie coming all the way to OH either :-(
Saint Augustine might be a possibility considering how late the date is. If my sister is there, it'll be even more likely.
Kate, Ohio is a maybe! I'm thinking maybe I can drive the first 7 hours and take a pit stop at Pitt (giggle)- say hi to Nicole and Jordan if they don't go- and then we could head to Ohio the next day? It's not ideal, but it's certainly doable. Especially if I can get another MA/CT/RI/NY person to drive with me... hint hint....??? Mumford is high enough on my list of favorites, that I am willing to go further for them
I can't do it this year, I'm sorry.
It would require me to take too many days off. We still have newport for shenanigans!
Carp: you bring up a solid point for st Augustine too. There are an inordinate amount of police here. I can personally attest to the massive number of cops here. St Johns County is a very rich county because of Ponte Vedra being inside county lines and its one of, if not THE most affluent towns in Florida and possibly the country. It's insane how much money is in Sawgrass, and how many celebrities (especially sports, and folders) that either live here or have 2nd homes here. VERY rich. And since the cops don't really have to police that area, they spend a lot of time in the St Augustine area. I don't know how they will be for this fest, but when they had the last big music fest headlined by Three Doors Down and Snoop Dogg, it wasn't that bad. Parking and traffic are going to be tight, but this city is set up for tourists, it's our number one source of revenue here by a massive margin.
There are tons of great places to party here and there is a really nice campground here that's quite cheap, and on the beach - Anastasia State Park.
Also, until this morning when I was working out with Audra, I forgot that I probably won't be living across the street from the beach when the fest rolls around. I will be moving to change school districts for my son. I will probably be living with Audra and her 2 kids too. We talked about it this morning and we are still open to hosting the party for the weekend and for a place to crash for some people, but 7 will be pushing it. 4-5 would be more comfortable and workable.
September is magnificent time of the year here, it's goin to be perfect weather.
Bonzai, my suggestion is to buy a ticket for both if you can swing it and if you don't end up going to both you could spin the other ticket to someone here probably, or make some money off it on eBay.
Just to drive the point home Ohio v St Augustine ... St Auggie is widely known as one of the best places to visit in the world. It is a great place to visit, and this is going to be a well run, highly celebrated, awesome party. Anyone even considering it should jump in tickets.

Carp's post made me laugh. You will never be asked to work for Troy's tourism board, that's for sure!
Great post and absolutely, if anyone can swing a trip to St. Augustine, it is the best choice by far (and it's awesome of surf to offer up his house for some lodging to inforoosters!) except Alabama Shakes isn't playing the FL stop either. Fun. is.
I'm just having a tough time figuring out what all is acceptable amount of money/time to devote to trips this year. Have to make a decision soon though.
Thanks, Carp! I appreciate your input My decision is more money and vacation time based than which is a better place to be.
But to be clear, I'm not a Florida fanatic so that isn't a major factor- I do love the ocean, but I've never been the been the beach vacationer type. Now THAT being said, it would be nice to turn it into a mini-vaca. And since I work seven days a week, my only sunbathing opportunities tend to be festivals...

Willy Mason has been confirmed for all of the North American dates. I was a big fan of this singer-songwriter from Martha's Vineyard when he first started out. I saw him at ACL in '07 when he was about 20 and it was a really good performance just solo acoustic with a couple of songs accompanied by his mother, folk singer Jemima James. He has gained some fame in Europe and opened for M&S on their tour across the pond before. He was playing a very limited number of US shows this year with a talented backing band judging from the footage I've seen online. Now I know there will be a few more. I may have to look into making one of these.
I have a friend in Columbus and we're always trying to figure out ways for me to go out to visit her. Thinking we might do the Troy stopover this year!

I'm not disagreeing that traffic could be horrible, but you would think a town that hosts an annual strawberry festival that has an average attendance between 100-150,000 people would have some sort of idea of what they will need logistically for this fest.
If I had to choose between Ohio and Florida it would definitely be Florida. But I will be attending Troy because it's only about 20 minutes away from me.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

I've got a setlist of one of his opening act shows for the Felice Brothers. I like Willy a lot. Wish he was more konwn.
