this whole dicussion about alt j vs. fjm is bs. theyre both maazing artists. i watched both of their coachella sets live. they will both be amazing shows and i can guarantee that after FJM there will be a huge migration over to alt-j (i will personally be skipping FJM's final song in order to ensure i see the opening of alt-J, dont want to miss tesselate.)

just because people go from one set to another doesn't mean they are equally good.

i don't get why people get so up in arms when i say i don't like an act. i'm only comparing them because they are playing the same day and one is popular based on quality of music and one is popular based on hype and shitty radio. not my fault.

I'll bite. Personally, I don't give a rat's arse when you or anyone else doesn't like a band I like. I think what seems to get some people "up in arms" is that you don't say "I don't like that act." You say stuff like "if you like this band, you must have the musical taste of a 12-year-old." Again - doesn't bother me, but surely you see the difference.

Well at least I can rest easy knowing that the problem here is that you have no idea what you're talking about. This might be hard for you to swallow, but FJM is more along the lines of a fun, easy listening, frontman sort of band. Alt-J is a technical, musical onslaught. Ignore some of the simplicity and electronic stuff, and you realize how insanely creative the band is.
dreamtheater is a technically superior band, and they suck pretty bad. it's just masturbation.
It is creative, and it is technical. These are not opinions. Bahahaha, I'm staying out of this, but things like what Frankblack said are exactly the reason why so many people think that people that listen to mostly non mainstream music are pretentious. When I think of someone that only listens to xmu, I imagine them being just as stubborn and narrow minded as frankblack is being at the moment. I love both groups, but I agree wth blackdynamite about alt-j not being flavor of the month due to their technicality. I'll be at both and I will "rattle" about both
