Thoughts on the new album? Overall I like it, though I think I'd give it a 7.5/10 (for reference, AAW is a definite 9.5/10 for me). Tracks like "Nara" and "The Gospel of John Hurt" are amazing, and "Pusher" is a great simple song for them (though you might have to ignore that it has the same bassline as "Breezeblocks"), but there are a few stumbles on the album, in my opinion. I really think they'd have been fine if they cut "Left Hand Free" > "Garden of England" > "Choice Kingdom". Left Hand Free isn't a terrible song, but part of what made AAW so good was its sense of cohesiveness. "Left Hand Free" totally disrupts the flow of TIAY. It then leads into "Garden of England", which is overly simplistic and sounds like something I would have contributed to in 5th grade band. And then "Choice Kingdom" is just utterly forgettable. I've listened to the album probably about 20 times since it leaked, and I still couldn't tell you any melodies from this song.
While still a good album, it doesn't have the same sense of magic that AAW did. "Nara" is by and far my favorite song on the album, with "Every Other Freckle" and "Bloodflood Pt. II" being a close second. What I really wanted from this album was more of the heavy, hard-hitting fuzz that we got from "Tessellate", but TIAY is a bit more watered down. I think that the departure of Gwil definitely hurt them a bit - they worked great as a quartet, and now I just feel like something's missing. I'm a bit of an alt-J stan, so I admit I'm a little disappointed, but I'm still very much looking forward to seeing some of their new work live.
AAW is so good. it's everything I've ever wanted in an album. It tells a story. and it confuses me. And it makes sense. It's poetic. And it speaks of love. TIAY is the equivalent the day after the perfect one night stand. It's still good, but I don't know where it's going tomorrow.....even though it's still really romantical.

Overall I am a fan of it. Actually like "Left Hand Free", really thought it was cool they did a Blondflood pt II. Def think AAW was better, but this was a solid follow up album.
I checked out their set lists for the shows this past week in England. Bloodflood and pt. 2 are played together. For whatever reason this makes me very happy.

Now....get me to one of the November shows.
If only I was I was in Australia in October instead of this past May. Only show that is drive-able for me is DC, but I still can't swing a 3.5 hour drive in the middle of the week.
I have a pretty large credit with SouthWest from this weekend(bitching about Denver again) I could totally jet it over to Boston for a few hours. And no one is talking me out of it yet.

If you feel like coming to Philly, I'm going to the November 14th show!

This is the show that would be easiest for me to do. But it's also my sons birthday.
He didn't read correctly. Assuming you thought you could only get the combination of red and green or blue and yellow.
Wowwwwwww, apparently I need to learn that reading is my friend, my bad, I now realize what he saying. He wasn't stating the combinations, simply that there were four different colors. My bad guys, ignore that stupidity please, I'd been up for multiple days when I posted that.

"a flood of blood to the heart" Is such a perfect and important lyric. Bloodflood pt. 2 doesn't at all seem like a filler song, instead, it continues the love story that this band is trying to tell.
something light hearted and happy was turned into something haunting and full of lust.
A really good attempt at a cover.
The flutes in this makes me want run through a windy field hand in hand with a significant other until we fall, gracefully to find pictures in the clouds. During a sunset...of course.
