Probably the sexiest lyrics ever. With out coming out and saying "put your dick in my mouth...Im crazy....i love you"
Interlude is a pretty innocent contradiction to the dirty, border line, stalker lyrics to the first art of the album...which makes it kind of creepy when you're listening to the album as a whole.
Your choice kingdom Their voice hear them Our choice kingdom
Your choice kingdom Our voice crowns men Our choice kingdom
Rule Britannia Bright ideas hide in caves Rule Britannia Break a stock into a slave Rule Britannia Leave us planked before the graves Rule Britannia Ruler of the waves
Honestly...these lyrics elude me. But the vocals and music are so ethereal that I love it based on principal. Please give me your opinion. I would love to discuss. But I haven't given this one enough listens.
Sleeplessly embracing Butterflies and needles Line my seamed-up join Encased in case I need it In my stomach, for my heart Chain mail
Hunger of the pine Hunger of the pine
Sleeplessly embracing Yawn yearns into me Plenty more tears in the sea And so you finally use it Bedding with me you see at night Your heart wears knight armour
Hunger of the pine (I'm a female rebel...)
Sleeplessly Embracing You
Realization grew on me As quickly as it takes your hand To warm the cool side of the pillow I'm there for you, be there for me I'll hum the song the soldiers sing As they march outside our window
Hunger of the pine
Sleeplessly Embracing You
Une immense espérance a traversé la terre Une immense espérance a traversé ma peur
Another song that I haven't fully dissected the lyrics yet. But I love how people haven't immediately gone to the Miley hate to despise this song, as it was the first single off of the album. They effortlessly sampled a different, and often mocked genre, and turned into something beautiful.
Dry dunes cater for jumping boys From the nape of her neck he made his descent They watched men hurl from rock to sea Like sternum to button, lined lip pinches in between
Your foothills Your warm
Iris swims quietly beside me Oh the leaves and larger weeds sway and stretch themselves beneath Blue dragonflies dart to and fro I tie my life to your balloon and let it go
Your foothills Your warm
I've said this before and I'll say it again. Folk "girl and guy" duets almost never work because the boy always fucks it up. This is why Damien and Lisa will never sing me lullabies again. And it's why the Civil Wars will never release an album without a subsequent announcement of a "artistic" break up.
But this song.....This song.....is such a pretty simple song musically. And the lyrics are the things that sunrise are made of. Boy meets girl. Girl tells boy she likes him. Boy tells girl he'll follow her anywhere.
For just a minute....let's forget about the inevitable downfall between two young star crossed lovers and tie ourselves to the balloon and let it go.

If you're willing to wait for the love of your life Please wait by the line And you know dispersive prisms rainbow But my native optimism isn't broken by the light
The idea of life without company fell suddenly It crashed through the ceiling on me And pinned me to the pine And layer upon layer of hope and doubt Will crush bones to oil in time
Are you a pusher or are you a puller? I pull the weight towards me And I lack the zest of a lemon, looking forward Unless I have a woman pushing me
A canopy of red-billed quelea Passed over the blue A five hour flock, not one dives down To tell you the truth
As night falls, a quelea crawls And whispers on his last wings: So abundant are we, left alone I shall be But a waited phone never rings
Are you a pusher or are you a puller? I pull the weight towards me And I lack the zest of a lemon, looking forward Unless I have a woman pushing me
Are you a pusher or are you a puller? We could hold hands for fifteen minutes in the sauna We could hold hands for a pool length under water I can push and pull Her
If you're willing to wait for the love of your life Please wait by the line
This song... This song....
So many things I can say about the arrangement. And the lyric choice.
First of all the music. It's an toss up between typical Alt-J enchanting and folky "white guy with guitar" And I don't know which I like more. Which makes sense, because the lyrics challenge the listener to dig deep and realize whether they push or pull. Dominant or submissive? Left or right? Passion or indifference? I really love it when a song makes me prioritize my self being.

A flood of blood to the heart A flood of blood to the heart A flood of blood to the heart A flood of blood to the heart
I lied. this is my favorite song on the album, It's so effing perfect. It ties in An Awesome Wave and This Is All Yours without freshman and sophomore seams. Every Other Freckle was a less stalker version of Breezeblocks(come on...that video is the best horror story) And Warm Foothills is a even more sappy version of Dissolve Me. (not a bad thing because I'm currently that much in love)
Once again the lyric "See oh double em oh em" is put into a song flawlessly. who would've though that that lyric would be their magnum opus line.? (I did).
And then poetically...."of food of blood to the heart" Over and over and over.
Bovay, Alabama I'll bury my hands deep Into the mane of my lover
Bovay, Alabama In the arms of the warmest colour
And just as we came in, full of anticipation and wanting, we leave the same way. Our love wasn't given a beginning, middle, and end. But instead given passion throughout. The album started off weird...and ended the same. Like a lover we can't shake.

I love this song, but the meaning eludes me.
John Hurt is an actor from the movie "Alien", and an alien bursts through his chest. The first verse just generally deals with feelings of alienation/not fitting in. I interpret the chorus as a person finally coming into their own and coming out of hiding. "AK/20/47/civilian"...might have to do with being revolutionary, tying into the gay rights themes shown in "Nara". That kinda makes sense: "coming out of the woodwork". I'm not so sure about the Jeremiah part. Maybe the message is that we all die eventually? I don't know.

I've never seen Alien, so that makes sense. Thanks!
Left Hand Free is probably one of the worst songs I've ever heard, and Pusher is definitely the most boring. 4/10, pretty meh album for me. Definitely won't have any desire to see them at Roo again if they show up in 2015.

I can see why someone would find it to be "meh" (it has its dull moments0, but come on now. Even if you're not crazy about the instrumentation, Pusher's lyrics are at least interesting enough to disqualify it from being the most boring song you've ever heard. There's lemon zest, and dispersive prisms and shit! And Left Hand Free, while not amazing, is at least comparable with a lot of the indie-alt-rock-ish stuff that's out nowadays. I'm starting to think you just haven't heard many songs.
Though as much as I love Alt-J, I'll admit that Choice Kingdom is one of the more boring songs I've heard in quite some time.
Listened to every song on the album. They're all so bland. Song starts off quietly, with some vocals and synth. Oh, look, here comes the drum beat....how unexpected... Chorus time! (or whatever you wanna call it since this is the album the band feels a need to eschew traditional song structure on). Now we're gonna get quiet again - just kidding! Here comes the really intense part that everyone will go crazy for live /s. Then there's Left Hand Free, which seems like it was written to serve as a soundtrack to a Ford Focus commercial.

Changed my mind, 2/10.
