I remember reading before the festival that they planned on a considerable amount of the money for the first few years so I think there is a good chance that it comes back.

Not surprising at all considering they only sold ~7,000 tix. BUT there are 2 easy fixes that should really boost ticket revenues and cut costs if they decide to bring it back next year:
1) Move to 4 days instead of 5. 5 days is tough sell for any prospective customer, even the music-fest junkie; a 4 day fest is a much easier sell. Furthermore, programming was pretty light on both Wednesday & Sunday. Changing to a Thursday-Sunday fest should be an easy decision that can help cut costs and increase their potential customer base.
2) Pricing structure. Absolutely horrendous pricing structure. Any consulting they received on this aspect of the fest couldn't have been more off base.
- $200 pre-sale and $300 on-sale is not ideal pricing. Announcing the lineup in waves also more than likely resulted in slower ticket sales, thus leading to the $99 flash sales. While that was a great deal for those who could take advantage, it left a sour taste in the mouth of those who bought early, and also yielded little to no money to the festival. -A more traditional tiered pricing structure would be ideal, something along the lines of: ~$100 pre-sale (limited quantity) ~$150 pre-sale (large quantity) ~$175 on-sale price (limited) ~$200-275 tiered pricing up until day of fest
Completely off topic, but anyone know the name of the song that starts at 6:16? (Side note: I still get really excited watching footage of this set. Really hoping I'll be able to catch it again this year)

Moog Music announces that Moogfest will be biennial, with the next event sheduled for 2016. Moogfest 2014 was a reboot of the festival, with much of the planning and execution taking place inside the Moog headquarters, just upstairs from where the synthesizers are designed and built by hand. Engineering a production of this scale is a process that can’t be mass-produced, much like Moog synthesizers themselves.
The decision to produce Moogfest biennially is in an effort to maintain the authenticity of the event, as well as the financial and spiritual health of Moog Music and its employees, whose primary focus will always be designing and building synthesizers.
“Moogfest 2014 was a proof of concept so we could experiment with a new business, a unique format, and a new creative direction,” says Mike Adams, Moog Music Inc. President & CEO. “Producing Moogfest every other year allows us to retain the high level of innovative programming as well as the originality and independence we established in 2014.”
This new iteration of Moogfest, with Moog Music Inc. at the helm, brought thousands of musicians, inventors, engineers, futurists, ethicists, visual artists and their fans together to discuss the future of technology and creativity. It established a space for conversation and collaboration while bringing visibility to North Carolina as an international hub of new ideas. Musical performers included legends like Kraftwerk, Keith Emerson, Nile Rogers and Giorgio Moroder alongside future and current stars like M.I.A., Flying Lotus, Dan Deacon, and Factory Floor.
“This future-forward version of Moogfest is in its infancy,” says Emmy Parker, Brand Director of Moogfest and Moog. “It will take some time for it to grow, but it’s clear that people want an unadulterated ideas-based festival that combines new art, music and technology. Moogfest is a personification of the Moog ethos and we’re honored to dedicate a full two years for curating each festival, with a sustainable, long-term plan for maintaining this platform for all those who share our passion.”
As a pioneer in electronic music and the inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Bob Moog was an innovator who introduced the world to the sound of the future. Moogfest, a five-day synthesis of music, technology and art, held April 23-27 in Asheville, N.C., brought an equal ferocity of spirit to the festival that bears his name.
That gesture is not typically used in association with being wrong, but for avoiding a close call.
Why thank you CKS!
Turns out, thats exactly what I searched "Close Call GIF" because it was a close call cause had he accepted the bet, I would have owed him a ham sandwich!

It's a bummer about next year, but at least it will be back in 2016 and they seem very committed to having another stacked lineup so I will be planning on going again.

Maybe now ACEnt will go biennial and have MtnOasis again every other year during Moogfest's off years.
