After that performance I can't say that I care whether he reunites with any of his other projects or not (everything was so strong and way better than when I saw Gorillazz 3.5 years ago) but it sounds like Gorillaz will be back.

I'm showing my age and experience (lack of) a ton on thse boards right now after this weekend, but here we go again. This was one of my favorite shows I've ever seen (happened a few times this weekend).
This was insane to me. I mean... in the same setlist... same artist, a man made me turn to my friend and say "god that was beautiful" (Out of Time), filled my body with so much fucking energy while he was destroying the end of Kids With Guns, and also basically morphed into a hip-hop performer and got the crowd going nuts. All in one show. Am I lame or does that happen anywhere else on planet earth?
Enough of me being mushy, but really this show just had so much range to it and I loved it all. The ER songs sounded much better live IMO and I believe he left off most of the songs I dont care for from that album anyways so I was excited for all of that material. Lonely Press Play is a monster IMO. Didn't realize that prior to this.
Damon was the coolest fucking guy and seemed legitimately excited to be there at that severely uncrowded set. I was however confused when he mentioned never playing a show like that as he did Gball a week before. He also just seemed to be seeping with joy and so excited about what he was doing that it made me feel like he hasn't headlined Coachella twice and done a bunch of other crazy shit. Pretty humbling.
At the end of Feel Good Inc., my friend turned to me and said "That was the greatest moment to ever happen at Bonnaroo." At the end of Clint Eastwood, a retracted and said, "OK, second greatest now."

I think he meant more about how the other festivals State-side aren't on the level of Glastonbury with its camping, its vibe and its community, and that he hasn't yet played the Glasto of the States until then, which arguably Bonnaroo is and Coachella isn't.

That was a very interesting comment. He's played Coach with Blur and Gorillaz and he's played other fests. Somehow Bonnaroo felt like a new experience to him and that's pretty damn awesome. Also imagine the big smile on AC'S face when he compared it to Glastonbury. That's as good as it gets.
I was right there when he came into the crowd and my friend got one of the three drumsticks (sorry if he was taller than you).
I think I was standing to the right of your friend, dead center on the rail (I'm a tall white late 30's guy, was wearing yellow Stone Roses soccer jersey style shirt). The guy next to me got one of the drumsticks.
This was my favorite performance from Bonnaroo. I'd seen Damon with varied side projects four times in the last few years (TGTBTQ and Gorillaz both in SF, Gorillaz and Blur at Coachella) and this was the highest energy most fun set of any of them. Damon was brilliant and seemed to really love performing, SO unlike the two Coachella sets, especially Blur from last year where it seemed like they just phoned it in. Maybe it was the weight of having to carry the entire show as a solo artist, but it was the most engaging and goofy and fun and incredible I've ever seen him (recalling some of the early Blur gigs from the 90's). All the Gorillaz guest stars were fantastic. The setlist was near perfection, though I suppose he could have mixed in The Universal or No Distance Left to Run instead of the middling All Your Life.
Also, this was my first Bonnaroo and first attempt at getting into the "pit" and it couldn't have worked more flawlessly. Showed up about 90 minutes before and there were something like 5 people waiting, which made it not only effortlessly easy to get on the rail but everyone around was super friendly and not pushing and jerky. After he started, and especially after he brought out De La Soul for Feel Good Inc, people around me were just so happy and having such a great time it was just pure bliss for the rest of the show.
I'd seen this performance was on the webcast. Are those still online somewhere?

damons is having infinitely more fun as a solo artist. the coachella shows last year were actually among the most engaged he was on that tour, save the shows the year before from hyde park. some of the 2013 shows were trainwrecks.
thats why i really doubt you see blur again any time soon. gorillaz either despite his recent comments that a new gorillaz album was in the works (echoes of when he said the same thing about blur last year). no point to it really, he can compose what he wants and play what he wants solo and not worry about graham or jamie clashing with him.
i wont complain though. seen him three times in the past few weeks and each one was outstanding.
IF YOU GOT A HAND IN YO HAND, THEN CLAP THE MOTHERF*CKER
thought it was 'if you got your hands in the air them clap them motherfuckers'
Probably, but when he said it that's the way I heard it and now I can't unhear it. I thought it was his long winded and silly way of saying that everyone should clap their hands unless they are physically incapable.
i was 2nd row behind the rail, behind a nice looking couple and the guy had a black shirt and a bandana and damn it was so beautiful to see how much this kid loved damon. I love damon albarn, I knew most if not every song he played, but this dude knew everything WORD for WORD, and Damon saw that. The only moment he came down to the rail was to get right up on this kid in front of me. If not for that guy's undying love for Damon, i wouldnt have got touch the golden god that is Damon Albarn for a second time.
Kudos to that kid in front of me, i cried with him. It was too damn beautiful seeing this kid watch someone he clearly loves so much, with nothing but good people around him. I gave him a hug after the show. I was glad to share that experience with him.
I'm honestly still in awe of this set. Definitely one of the best performances I've ever been to. I've had the Gorillaz on my bucket list of must see bands but I would be content if this was as close as I got. If they do reunite and tour behind new material, I will be there. I will also make sure to see Damon anytime he comes around Michigan.
