LN Which sounds better to me, but I'm down with it either way
actually that's probably more realistic. Roger Waters- Pearl Jam- Foo Fighters- Journey
No, seriously, let's keep going. Add a 5th name. Can we squeeze Widespread into that top 5 and make it the oldest, whitest, most dad-rockiest top-5 ever posted on this board?
you know when you go to a bar and everyone is drunk and there is a karaoke band playing 70's and 80's classic rock and everyone loves it and sings along. and when when you're in your car and you sing those songs at the top of your lungs. but whenever you talk about these bands you act like they are a joke and you don't like them. that all gets thrown out then window when you see them live. they're a good band, it's a great time. if you don't enjoy it, you suck.
Sang would go to a music festival headlined by a karaoke machine.
ouch. you've never been wasted in a bar and sung along at the top of your lungs to "Don't Stop Believin" or "Livin on a Prayer"? hell, I've been up on a stage belting out "Pour Some Sugar on Me" to hundreds of adoring fans* and let me just tell you, it was pretty fucking epic**.
*other random drunk people **I have no idea how it actually sounded, chances are it was actually pretty fucking terrible. but in my head, I was a rock star and that's all that matters.
seriously though, Journey might not be "cool" but there is something to be said for occasionally rocking out to songs you grew up with. IMO.
Sang called it everyone in our group who was thinking Journey was not HL material next to the Chili Peppers walked away really impressed.
I think alcohol must have played a part in this revelation
So you are saying alcohol will not play a part in the experience of the majority of people on here at Bonnaroo? Also I would go see it again sober, there is good showmanship, they only play the hits, there is a monster light setup and screen behind them, and everyone knows all the words. It is a good time at a live show, and better than a lot of others honestly.
I'm not saying you can't rock out to some hokey dad rock, I'm saying that hokey dad rock isn't headlining Bonnaroo because it wowed a bunch of drunk folks at a mid-sized festival.

Guys, if this isn't clear already, they win any and all tie-breakers with other dad rock because LAZERZ.

Yeah because a light show and nice setup does not enter into the concert experience. Maybe you should sit at home and just listen to stuff you like with headphones on.
So to sum up everyone who was there thought it was great and the people who like to sit around here and hate are still doing it correct? Ahhh inforoo, the more it changes the more it really stays the same.

Some of the best shows I've ever seen had zero lights or setup. See: Swans at roo this year.

Don't put words in people's mouths simply because you can't handle the ones actually being said.
I'll state it again - I don't care (and I doubt anyone else would) if you hope for some radio hit dad rock that you can have drunk singalongs to. But acting like they should headline because they played a set that a handful of inforoo people really enjoyed? That's illogical.
They are, at best, Which LN or pre-headliner, at worst something in the afternoon in the "old guy on Sunday main stage" spot that has been inhabited by the likes of ZZ Top, Beach Boys, John Fogerty.

I said LN Which in my first post, do you ever bother to read threads before you jump in with both feet to act like an ass?

How many total great shows have you seen that had zero setup? I bet it is not more than five or so.

So if they had been LN Which this year you would have seen them over the Superjam?
Bonnaroo 2014: SH*T THAT DRUNKS SING ALONG TO! Featuring Journey - Oasis playing "Wonderwall" for two hours - AC/DC but only "Back in Black" and "Thunderstruck" - Some DJ playing just the first few bars of Biggie's "Juicy" - Jimmy Buffett

I still say they made that storm appear.
Edit: To stay on topic, I would watch the f*ck out of a Journey set, but a headlining spot is going too far.
