so 2 people out of 20 (that I know personally) that were there loved it. the 2 haters are definitely right and very hip.
Also, from MM's Facebook:
JA wasn't that great..... Journey was terrible! The should have never been a headliner! Very disappointed. You can't go from Foo Fighters one year to Journey the next! #EpicFail
I must confess I left around 10:00 pm. They weren't holding my attention at all. Phoenix was great!!!
Journey was boring. JA and Cake at the same time, so Journey could lull us into a coma playing lame shiz and instrumentals? Unreal. Epic fail.
I like Journey and all but they should have been a 7pm start at latest
Journey was a terrible act to end the night with. They should have been midday. They are just a cover band with the new singer. Janes was the best act of the day.
Stunk. Left after two songs.
Journey sucked
Journey played their hits but they also spent a lot of time noodling around as if they were just fulfilling a minimum show length requirement. Very boring
Uh-- Katherine, I don't know what house you were at tonight but you were NOT at Music Midtown. As a long-time Journey fan, that shiz sucked.
Journey sucked. Don't lie. It wasn't epic AT ALL! Lol
yuck...
No likie...they were TERRIBAD!
They should have put journey on earlier and let Jane's close the show. They were awesome!! Journey was not.
Im sue if you're over 50 journey might not have been that bad.... horrible... go to a real music festival people
I stopped reading when the first person said JA wasn't that great.
Let me give you the cliff notes: a bunch of randomly pulled real-life Facebook posts that said Journey sucked.
So, as has been the point being made, your small sample sized-opinion is rather irrelevant.
You liked them, you had fun, that's all good, but if they were at Roo as anything besides a mid-afternoon sing-along set then Ashley Capps is going senile.

he found 10 kids (there were tons of ignorant kids there, some were making fun of Weezer for being old men, so come on) out of a crowd of 60,000. I've said everyone I was with loved it and the entire huge crowd that actually stuck around loved it. maybe I was overboard saying headliner, but if they were the headliner I wouldn't mind. of course I have a bunch of other bands I would rather see headliner. but I wouldn't be disappointed at all if they get Journey. but as I said earlier late night Which is more realistic.
This thread is so ripe I don't even know where to start really.
Sang and Jess both went to a Journey show, somehow, not really improbably when you think about it, loved it. Now agree Journey, one of the worst/overplayed/corniest bands of all time, should headline Bonnaroo.

How do you know they're kids?
Pretty sure this guy isn't a kid:

Weezer's bandmates are in their mid-40's, for the record. They're not spring chickens anymore.
We are very clear on your accepting Journey as a headliner. What your dense cranium isn't absorbing is that a vast majority of Roo's target audience does not share that view.
LN Which isn't f*cking realistic, either, dude. Journey's current lead singer was discovered by the band singing covers on Youtube (this will be repeated until you stop saying they should get a prime spot). You want to put them in a LN tent and let them play to a couple thousand people? Fine. You want them to play one of the 6/7 biggest sets of the weekend? Nope.
Are you really this dense, or are you trolling? Serious question.

I'm not sure what makes you think Roo would be any different. there were not that much less people there watching them than there would be at Roo. I'm going to make a Jess-like declaration, they would be no less than a Which headliner. if they're big enough to headline a festival that has had RHCP, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Black Keys as headliners what makes you think they wouldn't be top 5 at Roo?
Stupid question, the answer to which doesn't even matter: It's still not even Steve Perry, right? Still some guy doing a Steve Perry impression? That should headline?

right. believe me before the fest I was as skeptical as anyone else. I was saying the same things. we were all saying that we were just going to block out this new guy and pretend it's Steve Perry up there. no need for that. the guy can fucking sing, I don't care where he came from.

This is not a stupid question. It might be an unnecessary question though. Even if they didn't have a random dude fronting their band, would they be any different from previous, similar acts who played tent slots?
So they were drinking? I've seen Journey a handful of times (w/ Pineda a few of those), and can say that alcohol had me believe they were the greatest band ever. Being sober, I realized I had made a grave mistake.
there was drinking and before the show I had decided I was going to rock the Quack out (tongue in cheek). turns out there was no tongue in cheek and they were really quacking good.
I don't know how you can say that after seeing a number great performances over the weekend. Especially, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who were bursting with boundary pushing creativity that excited fans from every end of the spectrum in a very genuine way. I understand that liking Journey in a tongue in cheek way is a thing, it's not my thing, but it's a popular thing. But, to say that they were really fucking good, means you just weren't paying attention. Besides the fact that they hammed it up on stage in the cheesiest ways possible, the band was horrible. The guitarist doesn't have or a long time ago lost any talent or originality and continues to show boat like a clueless old man. I don't know how calling out a crappy band playing a big stage makes me a pretentious hipster, but I do know that you are wrong saying they should be a Bonnaroo headliner.

YYY was my favorite show. I also ranked QOTSA and Jane's over Journey. Journey were still great and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Those listings are completely arbitrary. Like, if you're running a corporate event and want to hire Journey that's probably accurate (because that's the type of shit Journey plays). A legitimate music festival would pay significantly less.

Holy f*ckchrist. You are either simple beyond belief, or being an *sshole.

how? they were really quacking good. I'm not joking. and you weren't there.
It's staggering that this is so difficult for you to understand. You thinking they were great is irrelevant, and, so you don't think I'm playing favorites, Monster thinking they suck is also irrelevant. Journey's appeal isn't changing because they played a "good" (or bad) set at a small music festival. They are not headlining one of the major US music festivals....ever.
