I was at Music Midtown and it Journey was hands down the worst show I have ever seen. The cheese and the hokey guitar guitar playing were too much to take. I can't believe people not only accept that type of sh*t, they call it good. Throw in that horrendous, guitar-lesson-esque solo of the Star Bangled Banner and that set could have gagged a maggot. And, yes, I was drinking.

So what you're saying is....you're a 'no' on Journey as a headliner?
So to sum up everyone who was there thought it was great and the people who like to sit around here and hate are still doing it correct? Ahhh inforoo, the more it changes the more it really stays the same.

I honestly enjoyed the show. It's obviously not a band I would personally pick to headline if I had my choice of anyone, but as a novelty act it was a fun show. Haters will hate, and honestly the pretentiousness around here is one reason I hang out on here less than I used to. Most of the Journey haters seem to fall into the that category. If you can't cut loose and enjoy Don't Stop Believin' then you need to take life/music less seriously. I had an absolute blast at their show.
I was there! It was a rainy weekend day in Berkeley (1979) and they announced that Journey was playing a free show at Zellerbach Auditorium on the Cal Campus. It was a 5-minute walk. It became clear pretty early on that they were lip-synching. Plus they kept telling us not to smoke and complained that our arm-waving for the na-na-na-nas wasn't enthusiastic enough.

I saw Journey and Foreigner at my first concert (2009?) and let Journey was fairly decent but I don't think they really rocked hard enough for headliner or LN. Foreigner on the other hand was incredible and I'd kill to see them again. But this is coming from the guy who misses Steve Perry in Journey so quacking much.

I had no idea that Journey found each of their last two lead singers by searching YouTube for cover bands performing their songs. Journeys wiki page is legit fascinating.
so 2 people out of 20 (that I know personally) that were there loved it. the 2 haters are definitely right and very hip.
So they were drinking? I've seen Journey a handful of times (w/ Pineda a few of those), and can say that alcohol had me believe they were the greatest band ever. Being sober, I realized I had made a grave mistake.
Love the implication that we are hating hipsters because we didn't enjoy a Journey concert.
A Journey concert where the lead singer was found via searching Youtube for guys who are good at Journey covers.
I'm not saying you can't have fun there, but that's a) not a headlining set and b) not a LN Which, Which closer (pre-HL) or anything of that status. For f*ck's sake.

This thread is so ripe I don't even know where to start really.
Sang and Jess both went to a Journey show, somehow, not really improbably when you think about it, loved it. Now agree Journey, one of the worst/overplayed/corniest bands of all time, should headline Bonnaroo.

there was drinking and before the show I had decided I was going to rock the fuck out (tongue in cheek). turns out there was no tongue in cheek and they were really fucking good.
