how? they were really quacking good. I'm not joking. and you weren't there.
It's staggering that this is so difficult for you to understand. You thinking they were great is irrelevant, and, so you don't think I'm playing favorites, Monster thinking they suck is also irrelevant. Journey's appeal isn't changing because they played a "good" (or bad) set at a small music festival. They are not headlining one of the major US music festivals....ever.
You are right, their appeal to certain types of fans will always stay the same no matter how bad they suck. And let me tell you, those suckers were the suckiest bunch of suckers who ever did suck.

Agreed. I'm glad you didn't confuse my intent and think I was defending those sucky little suckers.
Bonnaroo 2014: SH*T THAT DRUNKS SING ALONG TO! Featuring Journey - Oasis playing "Wonderwall" for two hours - AC/DC but only "Back in Black" and "Thunderstruck" - Some DJ playing just the first few bars of Biggie's "Juicy" - Jimmy Buffett

are you even reading? his post was talking about how I should like all of the other newer/more creative bands more than Journey, which I already do without him telling me that I should. he said how can you say Journey is great when all those other bands were there and I said because Journey is great. then you chimed in saying I wasn't making sense. if you were talking about something else, you should do a better job of quoting.
Sang, are you concussed? Because you're coming off like a f*cking stroke victim trying to articulate something.
My comment was made (not the one you quoted, the one before it) because you listed three bands off the top of your head that you said were better than Journey, WHO YOU WANT TO HEADLINE THE 2ND (probably) BIGGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL IN THE COUNTRY. Then you said something dumb about how they were "good," which prompted my reply stating the denseness of your skull was staggering. Not hard to follow.
It's staggering to me that you don't see the logic in the argument against what you're saying. You, Jess and a handful of people enjoying one another's company while boozing it up and listening to a Journey cover band and enjoying yourselves is great. I'm legitimately glad you all had fun. My personal tastes aside, Journey isn't a headliner based on the same criteria we hold every other musical act to on this board. Why isn't Journey subject to this criteria, in your eyes? They're not a "best ______ ever" anything, they're not historic, they aren't doing a reunion, they're just....f*cking Journey.
You compared them to a good karaoke bar. Why in the wide world of f*ck should we want a headliner to be something that gives us that experience? Being a fun band that 30+ year olds like after a few beers isn't a headliner at Roo, I'm sorry that this harsh reality is so hard to swallow, but it's the truth.
And for the 50th time - no one is saying they shouldn't play Roo, they're saying to insinuate this band is a headliner at Roo is just silly.

since when are the headliners the most important/exciting bands at Roo? that's my point. if Journey did headline, I would no doubt have bands on the undercard that I love and enjoy more than Journey. that's always how it is. I don't go to Roo for the headliners (most of the time). I didn't go to Music Midtown for the headliners either.
You're confusing the argument, and also you're wrong.
Headliners DO matter. Maybe not to you, or to me, but they most definitely matter. They're the first names people ramble off when talking about the festival, and while there are music nerds like the majority of Inforoo, there are thousands and thousands of mainstream musical dolt's who know nothing more than top-40 radio that show up to Roo.
Ashley Capps & Co. don't have to sell us on the festival, they know that music elitists/snobs/nerds/whatever will find the bits and pieces way down on the lineup that they love, and the cool shows that are specific to Roo, but in case you've missed it the festival isn't catering towards wooks and jammie-jams anymore. Headliners move thousands of tickets, if you legitimately think that is untrue, you're kidding yourself. Just because they don't move tickets here doesn't mean they're irrelevant. So, we are again back to the same point: you're putting your personal taste and feelings and blanketing a 100k person festival with them.

well obviously, this thread was about me. I want to see Journey headline and I shared that. that was the entire point. I knew it would draw criticism and have every little thing picked apart about it like you are doing right now. but I don't care, I would still like to see Journey headline. is it very likely? no. are there probably 20 other bands I would want before Journey? yes. am I allowed to still say I want it to happen? yes.
So why isn't the thread titled "I want Journey to headline, but they probably won't?" Because you wanted to argue about it.
believe it or not, no I didn't want to argue about it. but when people try to tell you that things that you just saw are not true, then you're inclined to respond. I saw a crowd of 50-60k idk exactly what that fest draws, but it's not small, get rocked by Journey. they would do the same thing at Roo, given the chance. will they be given the chance? that's a whole other issue. and yes the answer is probably not.
The fest drew 100k for the entire weekend, Sang. You mean to tell me 1/2 of that amount was at Journey?
And the point is you didn't see the entire crowd "get rocked" by Journey. You saw your group "get rocked" by them. There are many, many people who thought they sucked, or were boring, or were the best act they've ever seen. Do you think in generalizations the way you're talking in them? Because you're just glossing over thousands of people, many of which have voiced negative opinions.
So you acting like it's not even a question about whether they were good or not is ridiculous. You and Jess liked them, Zapp and Monster hated them. That right there is enough of a sample size to disprove your "crowd of 50k get rocked by Journey." If you weren't acting like these comments speak for more than yourself, people wouldn't jump all over them.

no, I saw a huge group of people, almost all singing along. sure some people left or didn't give it a real chance. but the majority were there rocking. it wasn't a small crowd and everyone that I saw was enjoying it, not just my group. they played Fri., Sat. was sold out, so I'm guessing the split was 60/40k. so we'll say at least 30k were at Journey.
I want you to stop estimating sh*t that you have literally zero chance of being accurate on.
Drunk Sang eyeing up the crowd is not an accurate way to gauge the crowd size, demeanor or anything, really. Except what Drunk Sang is doing and the people in his immediate area.

you're insane. It's pretty easy to gauge a crowd. 1.use your eyes, 2. use your ears. don't be ridiculous. if you were there you would be able to do that, but since you weren't you really have no idea what you're talking about.

If you had just put this into the "foolish and idiocy" thread it wouldn't have drawn all of the negative reaction that it has. I don't think a "journey" thread was necessary to express your opinion. The six page Journey thread could have easily been avoided and we could have talked about bands that might actually play Bonnaroo.....Like Led Zeppelin.

you're right. I haven't even been reading that thread or this section of the board lately. I started a new thread just because I wanted to.

How many people are at the show pictured above, Sang? In total, not just in the picture.

The answer is: who the f*ck knows. Since you weren't circling the field in a helicopter, you can't even try and say you could see the entire crowd.
Just stop about the crowd being SOOPER DOOPER BIG and say it was decently sized, but not everyone liked it. And if you want to throw a "Journey couldn't headline" in there (which, keep in mind, is something even Jess agrees with), that'd be sweet too.
