Can we talk about how great White Denim were? I saw them in NYC in February and was really disappointed because they just seemed kind of bored. I missed them at Roo but their set yesterday was fantastic. Just bought tickets to see them in NY again for this Friday
What was with the sound for Childish Gambino? Sounded like he was yelling in an echo chamber, couldn't understand a word. He did have a pretty good backing band though.
I thought it might be that they hadn't figured out how to mix that stage well for hip-hop, but Nas and The Roots were both perfectly audible. I assume that it's Gambino and his team that did a bad job.
He and his sounded like they lost the Volume Wars. You know how on POWER, all of Kanye's production is just sort of walled together? It was like that, except this wall was not structurally sound to begin with. Bass was overwhelmingly high, drums were uneven, vocals were too loud (and/or he had the mic in his mouth). Guitars/synths/anything melodic was just washed over.
Yep, Nas and The Roots sounded excellent. Where were you standing for Childish Gambino? I walked across the area, from the far left side where I was for Lorde over to the merch stand and then near the press area and it sounded awful anywhere. Maybe it sounded better up close?

I was by the sound booth until I scooted out around the end
