Hey friends! Just figured now that lineup season is in full swing, Boston Calling 2014 should have it's own thread.
Will any Inforoo folks be there? I moved to Boston last September and the festival was my first weekend here. Vampire Weekend in City Hall Plaza was special for me. I bought early bird tickets for this Spring already.
Dates: May 23-25, 2014
Any speculation on the lineup? Outkast seems likely for any and every festival at this stage of the game. Randomly, I also noticed that in the Bonnaroo confirmation thread someone got a Roo denial from Kurt Vile's agent but got a yes on Boston Calling, so I guess we have our first "confirmation."
Also: How did people feel about last year's fest(s) in general? I saw the old threads here, but didn't notice any followup after the festival. I really enjoyed the lineup for what it was and thought they did a good job scheduling, and the stages at opposite ends worked really well.

I'll probably be there. Did not go to either one last year but know a few people who went. They said it's a great little festival if you want to spend a day or two in the city. I think it's great that they have local bands and national bands play. The location is pretty good too as it's hard to find an open space in the city. Since they have bands like fun. and Passion Pit play I think this spring their is a good chance to see Foster the People. Their new album will be released and would put on a good show. I hope this year they try and put on some good aftershows at Paradise, HoB, or Brighton Music Hall. I think those shows would sell out easily. Might want to put the dates (5/23-5/25) in the thread title.
I went to one day, expectations were low and turns out I had a blast. Both musically (the National were on their game) and organizationally (festival did a good job pulling it off). I'd go again, lineup dependent.
Regarding the lineup, they said today via facebook that it would be out "at the end of the month".

I volunteered at the fall one and it was alright. Really enjoyed seeing Bat For Lashes and Vampire Weekend were fun but the line-ups are never overly impressive. Considering its three days this year, I'm hoping they've upped their game and got some really great acts that haven't just played Boston a few months prior. Beck is popping up on a few festival line-ups, here's hoping he headlines so I can finally see him!
Is it really worth it? I feel like it would feel pretty cramped, and lacking in facilities for that long of a show. WFNX put on a free concert (at city hall plaza) a few years back and it was meh.
Y'know, the logistics are a lot better than I expected. Placing a stage at two different ends and staggering set times actually make it flow very well. They didn't have any free water at the fall edition, which seemed like it should violate some sort of code or something (especially since they love their legislation up here).
I don't know that I'd ever encourage anyone to come from more than a few hours away...heck, I probably would not have liked it as much if I didn't have "home field advantage," but for my circumstances I was pleasantly surprised. It definitely isn't Roo (I actually think even Lolla and Coach couldn't possibly be as good of an experience because no camping, no late night)....but the price is pretty reasonable, so it's a nice weekend. The downtown backdrop is a big draw for me. Having Roo sub-headliners as their headliners is obviously just the standard we'd expect from something this size, so if they get ambitious, that's just a huge bonus.
PS: Does anybody think that maybe Death Cab playing in non-NYC New York (which I would assume isn't a major venue) might signal the possibility of swooping into Boston for a headlining slot? I'd be pretty excited about it.
Yeah, they did a better job than what I expected, logistics wise. Schedule, placement of stages, portos, etc.
I stayed with a friend for the first one last year that was a ten minute walk away. That made the the festival totally worth it. In the fall, I went with a friend who lives in Worcester... ehh. Just barely worth it. In order for me to go again, I'd definitely have to stay local (and the lineup will have to be good as well, of course).
I'd do that scavenger hunt with you, emoney, if I was closer!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I'd be down to help. Any idea of where they might be hidden? I'm assuming its going to be strictly downtown
Apparently they're going to drop clues at 3:30, but not hide the goods till after 8pm, which seems odd to me. If i leave work early I may post up at the library to see if the clues are easy or not
If you want to take part in the "Find the Vinyl" scavenger hunt to score a pair of three-day general admission tickets, here are all the details, courtesy of Boston Calling:

Foster the People already announced a show at the House of Blues so its definitely not them. I would hope Outkast is a get, considering they're playing everywhere else.

Ohhh yeah. I totally forgot about that and just posted on a whim...I'm not as measured as when I post in the headliner thread...I'm not swimming with the sharks here :-D
Did y'all see the picture of the record Boston Calling posted on FB? The first letter of the headliner looked like "Ja---" soooo...
I was at Roo last year and skipped Jack Johnson, so you can imagine I'm all about it being Jack White...not that I consider that realistic.

Jack Johnson would be terribly disappointing and I even saw him at Roo haha. The Roo environment made up for it, but I imagine it being so lame in an arena or any other festival.
There weren't any clues and they revised "Find shit after 8pm" to "Find shit after 9pm" so I went home. Maybe I'll go back into town later if I think theres hope

Yeah...I dunno luckily I don't have much going on, so I might just ride the T down and troll around. I'm hoping not too many people are on board for this. It's probably better if they don't post clues so fewer people will go looking....I could probably guess where they'd put the records.

Imagine if Boston Calling gets Outkast. It would work as a Boston tour date and be great press for BC. I think that's the best we could get as a headliner. Outkast really needs to step up their game if they are going to play 40 fests this year.

Jack Johnson-Death Cab-Modest Mouse
Definitely not buying a three day but I could see myself going the day Modest Mouse plays.
