I guarantee it did not cost Johnson City, TN a million to book him.
I'm sure it's possible, I just remember reading somewhere that Elton gets a minimum of a million per show, I didn't really fact check the article.
If you look at that run of his tour there were a several venues like that. He may just enjoy playing the older and smaller venues for the memories I guess. Either which way, I had a blast at the JC show (even if I couldn't get a beer since it was a high school).
I had so many Kanye mixtapes in college. Time to go looking them up again. Remixes and original songs that weren't on the albums always had a few real winners.
It's funny because I got one of my best friends into Kanye with College Dropout. I left him the CD when I was visiting Chicago from Tennessee and he became a huge fan. A few years later he attended the infamous show of 2008, now he dislikes him. He still listens to his music but doesn't like Kanye. Actually the other night I played Yeezus for him, which he liked.
I bet the people that don't like Kanye for being angry also don't like Richard Sherman
Haha, for me team sports is a different animal. If I was going to compare him to a football player, I'd say Steve Smith. They both seem so angry, and for what? Immaturity. Time to grow up guys. I don't hate Kanye, he's not the devil or something. I mean I love the Beatles, but John Lennon was an enormous prick. I'll still listen to his music, but I wouldn't be very excited to see Lennon, not like Macca or Harrison. That's for sure.
Ironically, I'm listening to Kanye on shuffle right now, only College Dropout, Yeezus, and 808's. I have the rest on CD.
It is true that John did a lot of bad things in his younger years (beating his first wife, neglecting his first son), but he changed in the 70's and became a good person. As much as everyone loves to hate on yoko, she did make him a better person, I have that to thank her for.

You bring up a good point. I don't know if Elton does it, but I know the Avett Brothers did something similar where they were playing some smaller venues in their tour in order to allow some fans to see them in a more intimate venue. I saw them at track 29 in Chattanooga which is around 1400 people. The next night, they played a 8,000 seat arena in SC.

I saw the Avett Bros. at the UIC pavilion in Chicago, I don't know how many people were there but it didn't seem like a lot. Deer Tick opened for them, they were both awesome. I'll never forget it because I told some chick to shut the hell up because she was talking through the show, I got a lot of high fives, except for her husband who wanted to fight me after the show, lol. I talked to him and gave him a hug, lmao, he didn't know what to do. He looked really confused.
Had to look that one up, apparently a football player who made an angry rant? I don't really understand all that stuff about him, I don't follow the NFL. What's the situation with him?
It's hard to explain unless you've seen the rant. Basically he's an NFL conorback that is being criticized for calling his opponent a mediocre reciever, calling him a thug, the n-word, etc. When in reality he's a Stanford graduate that was the saludictodian of his high school
Ok, I watched the rant, but the dude apparently apologized according to this:

There's an element of regional appeal to it. They are from western NC, so they do pretty well in the surrounding states. I have no idea what they pull in other areas.

I mean, we all make mistakes, I won't fault the dude for a single outburst, is he typically like this?
Yes. But I don't see the rant as a mistake, I think he earned the right to say what he did. He's the best conerback in the game, so have no problem with him saying it

A single outburst compared to Kanye's track record is a poor comparison. Steve Smith is close, though.

. This made my night dude. That spoken word of Self Conscious is amazing. I probably wouldn't have found that on my own.
I mean, if someone doesn't like a headliner, why shouldn't they skip? People do that all the time. Plus only the Sunday headliner is unopposed. I broke out my old schedules: Paul was opposed by Casey Crescenzo and Matrimony on the Miller Light Lounge in 13. Radiohead was opposed by Rubblebucket on the Miller Light Lounge. The only truly unopposed headliners are the Sunday headliners. So unless kanye closes the fest, that's the only way he will be totally unopposed. How would everyone feel if kanye did play on Sunday?

Have you seen Sherman call out Skip Bayless? It's great

Yes, it was great. I'm a fan of Skip but he asks for it, a lot. I'm surprised more people don't give him the business. On the other hand I can't stand his big mouth partner, super annoying fucker.

I guess my lack of interest in football keeps me from having a strong opinion on Sherman. On more relevant topic, have fun at OBH beavdog151, very jealous, maybe you'll hear from someone in the band about whether they'll be coming to Manchester this year.

Thanks! I will definitely keep my ears open. Hopefully they'll let us know, one way or another.

I'll never forget the brutal Paul McCartney vs Casey Crescenzo conflict. RIP Cruel Summer 2013

I mean if someone didn't care for the headliner but thought one of the smaller acts on a smaller stage was more interesting, why not go to that? I consider Macca to be the greatest show i've ever seen, but I wouldn't look down on someone for doing their own thing.

I understand where you're coming from.
Kanye will be an interesting case, that's for sure. The Bonnaroo facebook groups sure have been a riot lately. One minute they're like "Fuck Kanye" and the next they're like "Radiate Positivity! Yay!" The 2008 Roo show is just a crutch for everyone who doesn't like him for personal reasons. But if there's really a band you prefer over Kanye playing at the same time? By all means, anyone in that situation should go for it.
