I don't see what's wrong with wearing something you think looks good. If I see beauty in the traditional clothing of another culture who are they to tell me I can't wear it.
If I wore a kimono because I liked it and a japanese person criticized me for it I'd probably troll them too.
I see nothing wrong with wearing something because you want to wear it, and it's pretentious and douchey to tell someone they shouldn't be wearing it.
Let me demonstrate:
Look at this guy
In my westerm culture the tuxedo is a symbol of class and respect. Who is this foreigner to parade around in the garb of my culture like he's earned the respect to wear a tuxedo
This is an incredibly ignorant and uninformed post.

except a tux isn't earned, and it isn't exactly a symbol of respect either. There is a huge difference. Western culture is to take the things they like about other cultures and make it heir own (I do t believe this, I just think it was a funny thing to say)

Please elaborate. I'm just playing the devils advocate on this. I don't see what's wrong with wearing clothing you choose to wear because you choose to wear the clothing.

Well, native Americans might compare it to a bunch of Christian Germans wearing a Star of David as a fashion piece.

What the fuck. Can we go back to the simple days of throwing the word cunt around in casual speech?

And every bit of that is beside the point. If what Kliph said was true, he was fired for daring to have a different belief on cultural appropriation. And here I thought the whole time that the mission statement of The Flaming Lips was something greater than "standing up for spoiled children appropriating Native's clothing while flipping off the people protesting against it (literally)." And that alone speaks of Wayne's values considering Kliph's been with the band for over a decade.

I don't think anyone is going to look at a white girl and mistakenly think "she's clearly earned the respect of the native american peoples to wear those feathers" We're not living in an 18th century indian tribe. People have the freedom to dress how they please. It's not racist to adorn yourself in clothing you think is beautiful because it comes from another culture. I think that's just over the top reactionary bullshit

For starters, a tuxedo is just formal wear. It has no specific function in ceremony, no traditional significance. The headdress does. Like Horn pointed out, she posted that picture knowing that she was participating in cultural appropriation, and she made a dumb joke about it. Basically, a band full of white women used imagery that has spiritual and cultural significance to Native Americans to generate publicity. It understandably pissed off the Native American community in Oklahoma, and Spurlock fairly criticized what they were doing.
If a group of people says, "This thing you are doing is offensive to us and our culture," you don't really have the right to question whether or not it's actually offensive.

If a group of people is offended by it, then it is inherently offensive. You fucking cretin.

More of Methostopolies' Barrister action, but why should it matter that white girls did the offensive thing?

Well, the white girl was the daughter of the Governor of Oklahoma, so it has some significance. If Kliph had been stalking just random chicks wearing headdresses and insulting them, it'd be a different story.

So, if I get more people than just me (a group) to say what you post is offensive, you will cease doing so, full of contrition, so as to avoid being a 'fucking cretin'?
I have every right to question what is and is not offensive
Absolutely, but IF you question whether or not it is offensive for the white people who nearly eradicated an entire civilization to wear that civilization's ceremonial objects in a fucking selfie, then you're an idiot.
Ear gauging is a ceremonial and religious practice for african american tribes, whom white westerners tortured and enslaved. Do you go around calling hipsters who gauge their ears racist?
It's just people wearing things they like. They're not trying to hurt anyone. They just wear what they like because we live in a world of freedom of expression Quit being such a douche about it

No, the point here is that this chick did it knowing FULL WELL what she did would piss people off. That's not okay. Quit defending people who resort to racial antagonism for publicity. It makes you look like a douche.
So...if one doesn't know one is being racist it is measurably less offensive?
She did it innocently than antagonized people for telling her she can't wear something that she finds beautiful.
Quit telling people what they can and cannot wear. It makes you look like a douche
The caption in the very first picture was "Appropriate Culturation." What the hell do you think that means? Is there any plausible explanation other than the fact she was mocking the people she knew would criticize her for cultural appropriation?

Couple things here:
1. Laggy, I think you're a culturally insensitive idiot, and I hope you find my posts offensive.
2. Jfg, you know damn well what I mean by "group." I mean a collection of people who share race/religion/nationality/etc.

Yes? Doing something offensive on purpose is different than doing something offensive on accident.

So, that's a no then?
Sorry, fellow Inforooer (shared culture; does that qualify under your 'etc.'?); when one starts making moral judgements of strangers, one should clearly define those judgments.

I'll concede this argument because I'm tired of it. I didn't know that was the caption on her original post, and if she posted it with the intention of pissing people off that's pretty bitchy and ok.
But generally I think people wearing head-dresses is innocent and not a big deal at all, and I think you guys are over the top reactionaries. And I think people should have the right to wear whatever they want. People adopt styles from other cultures all the time.
Sorry I'm big on civil liberties and get defensive of freedom of expression, and I don't think anyone has the right to anyone else how to dress

It was in my first response to you on the issue, dude.
