I'm going to go ahead and agree. Lucy in the sky was a total face melted. I've never left a set so happy and just like... Fuck yeah! When I saw flaming lips live changed me, it literally changed me. I wish I could quit my job and just follow them lol anyway. I've had the visuals for watching the planets stuck in my head but can't find a live clip online from their tour to rewatch it.
This is why I said the Flips were a no brainer for me as my Saturday LN choice. They put on one hell of a show and Wayne is awesome. I went to his interview on the solar stage and that made me like him even more. He even stuck up for Kanye which I personally thought was great. He's very kind hearted and down to Earth. The new album he's doing is all for charity. All the proceeds are going to help stray dogs and cats plus help families that don't have the money to take their sick pets to vets for treatment. Personally I love to feel happy and to feel the love from everybody which is what I get at their shows.
I just realized I had so many typos in my post you quoted. Oops.
He did do the whole 'wheres da press' thing on stage though during the performance. And I guess i didn't realize he was doing an interview but that explains how he found the butterfly wings at the solar stage he mentioned he was wearing.
Besides tiny dancer at Elton John, Yoshimi was the only performance I felt everyone in the audience knew EVERY SINGLE WORD and we all sang together and that blew my mind (and this is just for the artists I saw at Bonnaroo). But the visuals. The visuals. Yeah.
I was really really conflicted between doing the Skrillex superjam or the Flaming lips. I got the the skrillex superjam around 11. 11:30 came and it didn't start on time. 12:00 came and I could SEE the flaming lips start in an eruption of confetti and light and it took everything I had not to dart out of that tent and run to the flaming lips. The superjam finally started and it was cool and all but the entire time all I could think about was how I was missing the flaming lips across the field. Around 1 I am just not feeling the superjam anymore and finally let myself go catch the last 30 min of the F'Lips and was sooooo glad I did. They put on the greatest spectacle of a live performance and I should never let myself forget that. God are they amazing. Also I totally forgot about Wayne's Solar stage thing and I'm sad What did he do, exactly? Just an interview? Did he play any songs?
It was just an hour long interview. Some of the people there were thinking it was gonna be a solo performance so they scurried away when they realized it was only an interview. I enjoyed it, though. He was interacting with the crowd asking for drugs, lol. Some people were throwing stuff up to him which he thanked them for. It was pretty funny.
It's making me really happy to see the reactions on here to this set... I was soooooo torn between the SuperJam & this set, having never seen the Flaming Lips & knowing a late-night set at Roo would be awesome... I went to the SuperJam with friends, made our way under the tent, waited for it to start, & a couple songs in told my friends I had to go to flips & left. I just had this feeling the whole time I was at the SuperJam that I was missing something.
Best. Decision. All. Weekend.
It ended up being my favorite show of the weekend, was in absolute heaven when they ended with Do You Realize -> Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Still caught a bunch of the SuperJam later & then found out a friend of mine that was at the SuperJam left shortly after I did & he also put flips as his #1 for the weekend.
That setup was just so freaking beautiful. The crowd was perfect. One of my favorite Bonnaroo moments in the three years I've gone. And it's awesome to read some of you saying the same thing -- that set was just meant to be magic, & we all felt it! ...okay, that sounded super crunchy of me... but I'll stand by it

That wasn't their entire regular touring setup, was it? I think maybe flaming lips and kaskade (and maybe Zedd too?) all used that same huge screen in back

I wonder what became of the "Fuck Yeah Roo" balloon. I know that it popped somewhere in the crowd, but did the crowd rip it up into multiple pieces, or do you think somebody managed to grab the whole thing and keep it as a kickass souvenir of their set?

That new song they just played on Fallon was pretty good. They were a seven piece for it, which I found interesting. It also got me thinking...and I don't go crazy on the speculation on the jams, but a Steven Drozd superjam would be the best. I mean, he's the one in that band.

when I turned it on they were playing bad days so unless they played a song before that i missed you're off by quite a few years there. you're right though bad days is amazing and has always been one of my favorites by them
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

hoping bad days starts creeping back into their set lists. I saw them play it a few times in 09 but as far as I remember they haven't since that tour.

Anytime I hear this song, I am immediately reminded of Jim Carey as the Riddler.
Best thing to come out of watching that movie ad nauseum as a child was inadvertently getting hooked on the flips before I knew what was what.
