The Roots were on their initial lineup. Galactic, Bonobo, Dumpstaphunk, The Revivalists, Monophonics, Flow Tribe and Profit were additions shortly after.

Ah okay, I think Umphreys is a step down from the Roots for a headliner but I'm curious who else they unveil.
Fingers crossed for J5...could be what makes me pull the trigger this year. Perfect for the Roots slot since I missed Chali 2na to recover from Bootsy last year and Thievery isn't likely being that they're doing Hulaween 2 weeks prior.
Dumphrey's for two nights is as underwhelming as it gets.
Obviously there will be a ton of awesome stuff to do while UM is playing but still. Doubt I will see another Bear Creek show as good as Bootsy from the rail last year!!!
BC needs to get Nile Rodgers as a headliner. Seeing him open for Prince at Essence blew me away. Soooooooo good. That would be the dance party to end all dance parties if Nile played the Mushroom Stage at Bear Creek.

Both their sets at Waka were pretty badass as was the show at the Civic. Jmo but all 3 of those shows were good. They upgraded their light show pretty hard, and it fits what they were doing. Random hardcore note was checking Siberia's website and seeing all the punk and old hardcore coming to town. Freaking Mentors (member sicky wifebeater was a frequent target of the PMRC since they didn't get the sarcasm), the Offenders I wouldn't have even guessed were still alive, OFF! in August and Nik Turners Hawkwind coming up in September.
Perfectly Understood on Umphrey's. Though I do like the genre, I'm not super jam head guy, and admittedly they just kind of take off here and there and sometimes come off more as technicians.
It's Nik Turner's Hawkwind, so it won't be the psychadellic/dance/trance/freakshow that a Dave Brock's Hawkwind set would bring, but it's still Nik Turner. Last time we saw him (sometime in the 90's), he had old Del Detmar with him who had a guitar or bass made out of a giant war axe that he actually planted in the stage floor. LMAO. I'm actually looking forward to the Mentors. I know El Duce died a long time ago, but I hope they still wear their Executioner's masks. They were one of the most controversial bands of the shock rock era. Nobody should have taken that stuff seriously, but PMRC had congressional hearings where songs were read by anti-filth, anti-pron "ministers" where the crowd simply burst into laughter (I think at Golden Shower).
Anyway, I can't wait for the announcement which hopefully will be in the next couple of hours and hopefully an addition of some quality and upper card acts.
Adds: Soulive, The Floozies, Zach Deputy, Nicholas Payton Trio, Monophonics, Earphunk, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, a few more, plus the Artists at Large.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Might skip this year. Money has been tight lately and I want to put more funds into doing new events in new places and seeing new bands.
That said, SOSMP is still the greatest place on Earth.
Agreed with both points. I like the lineup, but it's just missing something fresh after seeing Roots, Bonobo and Bootsy last year. I just feel like I have seen each of the headliners so many times in the past year or two that I can pass on it this time around. I'll be back at Suwannee for Hulaween, but my Bear Creek Money will probably go to Aura instead.
Don't get me wrong...This lineup is great, but having been the past 2 years it just doesn't jump out at me as anything that special. Especially with Hulaween 2 weeks prior. If I go, it will be a last minute decision or if they add another unique headliner. Suwannee is indeed magical and the crowd at BC is the best I have ever experienced. Budget is tight this year with a new car purchase so I have to pick and choose. In this case, Hulaween offers me more bang for the buck (I got the $150 Hulaween ticket) and I still get the full suwannee experience!
Reasonable adds, though nothing earth shattering. I haven't seen Soulive yet that I can remember, so that should be cool. I've heard of Zach Deputy, but I haven't seen him yet. The Floozies - I saw part of their first set at Wakarusa, and they were fun as hell. My middle kid watched both nights and fell in love with them. Nicholas Payton Trio should be good. and there is actually a pretty solid list of artists at large (Jen Hartswick of Trey Band, Skerik, Roosevelt Collier, etc. Khris Royal is an awesome sax player and probably the up and coming city prodigy. He has a band called Dark Matter and often plays with Gravity A. He went up on stage and did a duet with Domnic Lalli at the Big Gigantic Show at the Joy Cinema jazzfest weekend 1. Earphunk is always great. Catfish Alliance looks like they will be fun. So the adds aren't anything that would draw me to the festival on their own but certainly nothing to turn me away. Gotta get dem tickets before the price goes up next week.
Look and remember the last name on that list. One day he will be the HL. He is only 10 years old, but TAZ is the shit! I like the lineup and really happy to see St Paul and TBB on here, Funk Yeah!!
Lemme ask about VIP for anyone who wouldn't mind answering a couple of questions. What is the average price and then VIP discount on beer and liquor? Also, I'm sure all the camping is fine there, but how about extra room to spread in VIP? How good is the stage access? At current prices, it doesn't seem very expensive even if you take it all the way to that chef option (which is kind of enticing) level.
Fwiw I don't expect anything to match the wakarusa VIP value so I wasn't so much trying to elevate my expectations to that level. Thanks for what anyone wants to or can share.

I've never been VIP but I just can't see where the value is. The whole event feels VIP to me compared to everywhere else.

I don't think anyone here even bothers with VIP since it's such a small fest and it's easy to get front row at most sets by just arriving a few minutes before it starts. As long as you get there on wednesday or thursday morning, you can find a decent spot to camp. I've been fortunate the last couple of years and have had friends get there wednesday and set up a great camping spot though. If you don't show up until friday though, you're gonna be camping a good distance away, but not like quite BFE like Roo. From what I recall there is an area on the right front side of the main two stages (amphitheater & purple hat) for VIP, but nothing on the other stages. I think you get a dollar or two off of beers and I'm not sure what the discount is on mixed drinks for VIP. There's also a big chill area close to the gate & amphitheater stage and another lounge at the back of the field for the purple hat stage. I may do VIP one year, but I already bought a GA pass on payment plan a while back for this year. It's hard to top that 5 payments of $33 deal.
I agree with Funky and Longinus on the VIP. I can not see any great benefits from it. You might get some perks, but with as much available camping in GA, it all feels like VIP. And I think there is limited space for camping in VIP, which is unlike GA, where your camp is as big as you can make it. I save money on beer/drinks by going back to camp for a refill. It is pretty easy to get a drink into the festival grounds as well. Searches are pretty relaxed. Which some find odd, it is like they want you to have fun. Which is different from other festival where you feel like you are going into Fort Knox and one step away from cavity searches. There is a great reason SOSMP is on that list as a top great outdoor venue.
Thanks man. You gotta know I don't care, but between my daughter's and jabco's old lady's considerations, you know how it is. If a cabin is scored, then bathroom/shower requirements are met. But we won't know until September. And the cost seems relatively low until the 16th, particularly when it's looking like I'm going to have to shell out for 4.
