Last year being a major exception. It was pushing 80 in the daytime and barely dipped below 60 at night, if at all. Was about as good of weather as you could expect for mid November at Suwannee, aside from the never ending rain Saturday night after the main acts ended. I packed a few pairs of jeans and only one pair of shorts...Thank goodness I at least brought that one pair of shorts because I wore them the entire time.
I haven't been to BC yet, but when I go I want jacket, toboggan, campfire weather.
You haven't been yet?!?!! I did not know this. You're coming this year right? Feels like I haven't seen you in way to long. Make it happen!

I'm currently thinking of ways to make it happen without the vacation time. If it was Friday - Sunday it would be easier. I'm not excited about this years lineup like the last two, but there is plenty of good stuff to keep me grooving all weekend. I was just really pumped about that Dap Tone stage in '12 and The Roots, Bonobo, and Antibalas last year. I do need to see Budos Band and Orgone again though. Suwanee fest are always more about the people and place for me anyway and I love the fall. Hope to see you there.

Don't worry about the lineup, you will find many new favorites. If days off are a problem, fly in Friday afternoon and fly out Sunday evening. You may miss a little but you'll hit all the high points. Most of the bands play two shows so you likely won't miss any must-sees. There, I solved it for you. Now you don't have any excuses.

Any leads on the artist additions tomorrow?
Caught my first BC last year and fell in love with SOSMP. Already have my Hulaween crew organized, just can't decide if I should pull the trigger on the BC/Hulaween ticket combo. Umph is a huge draw for me and, if say, galactic got added for 2 shows it would be almost impossible to pass up.
Bear Creek has delayed the next price increase for a week. I'm thinking sales must be slower than they would like.
That's what I'm thinking too. I'm guilty of being one who chose Hula over BC this year mainly because of the lineup. Don't get me wrong, BC lineup is great, but I was there 2 years ago and we had Daptones on top of what's offered this year. It's not the greatest lineup, especially after last years'! I've said from the beginning they were missing replacements for The Roots, Bootsy and Bonobo last year. Those 3 made my weekend for the most part. Umph replaces one...but no matter how many times Umph plays, it doesn't replace them all...especially if you saw Umph multiple times in 2012. I love BC, nothing compares to the vibe, but I missed Hula last year and could not miss it once I saw the initial lineup this year. Both fests should be outstanding. They're at Suwannee so I have no doubts. They just wouldn't be making any big late additions if not out of desperation at this point. I could be wrong. Hope I am!
Our final additions for Bear Creek 2014 are Chris Robison's Soulive Review, Talib Kweli, The Funky Knuckles and Freddy's Finest! We've also added additional sets from TAUK and Locos Por Juana. Join us for the funk in November! Our ticket-price increase has been delayed until Wednesday at midnight! www.bearcreekmusicfestival.com/tickets/
I like the additions a lot. Still not sure if I can swing it, but I am intrigued by the Chris Robinson Soulive Review & Talib Kweli adds! Too bad Kweli isn't an Artist at Large, though I wouldn't be surprised to see him join some other acts at some point. At least Break Science.
That's the beauty of Bear Creek...you never know when an unexpected collab will happen!
Here is a cut and paste of the official email. Apparently there are still a couple of adds to come as well as the announcement on theme nights:
BEAR CREEK MUSIC & ART FESTIVAL ADDS CHRIS ROBINSON SOULIVE REVUE, TALIB KWELI AND MORE
TIER-TWO TICKET PRICING EXTENDED UNTIL WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST AT MIDNIGHT
Bear Creek Music & Art Festival has added headlining artist Chris Robinson's Soulive Revue. This one-time-only collaboration will feature Black Crowes/Chris Robinson Brotherhood singer Chris Robinson with Soulive (Eric Krasno, Alan Evans and Neal Evans), The Shady Horns (Eric Bloom and Ryan Zoidis) and several very special guests. Also added to the bill is legendary hip-hop artist Talib Kweli, who will join the Break Science and Soulive sets. TAUK and Locos Por Juana will each play a second set at the event, and Dallas's talented soul & jazz community mainstays The Funky Knuckles with join the line-up with Atlanta's Freddy's Finest.
In conjunction with this announcement the promoters will extent the tier-two ticket price until Wednesday, October 1st at midnight. Fans can also purchase a Bear Creek and Suwannee Hulaween Combo Ticket that includes a three-day, Friday through Sunday Bear Creek ticket and a three-day, Friday through Sunday, Suwannee Hulaween ticket. Primitive camping and all taxes and fees are included in the combo ticket price.
Taking place November 13th - 16th, 2014 at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, FL, the eighth annual event also features musical heavyweights Umphrey's McGee, Lettuce, Dumpstaphunk, Budos Band, New Mastersounds, The Floozies, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Zach Deputy, Nicholas Payton Trio, Orgone, The Nth Power, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds and more. As is tradition at Bear Creek, many of the bands perform on two separate dates during the weekend and several talented instrumentalists act as artists-at-large, creating memorable surprise sit-ins and inspired performances.
Recognized as one of the most beautiful live music venues in the country, Bear Creek goers at SOSMP can enjoy music on three outdoor stages and one indoor stage including the famed Amphitheater Stage, set in the midst of towering pine and oak trees decorated with Spanish moss. The park also offers guest comforts including a general store, full-service restaurant, showers and water stations.
Fans can upgrade their experience with VIP tickets, RV hook ups, cabin rentals and golf cart rentals. To get on the wait list, call SOSMP at 386.364.1683. Stay tuned for additional artist announcements and theme nights!

So for veterans who have opted not to cook out while camping, what is the food situation like? I emailed BCMF, and a guy got back to me and told me he's a bit of a food snob, and there is no "carnival food" on the bill but they weren't going to announce until much closer to the festival. And the options will include vegetarian and healthy options which it is always nice to have those types of choices. The Grizzly VIP (for a $100 up charge) comes with the husband/wife chef team preparing 2 chef quality meals a day. But I probably wouldn't bother considering the email. But I'm curious if it's a lot of greens; any specific themes, or seafood or whatever. If it's not carnival food (and I'm assuming they'll still have pizza, burgers and stuff since all festivals do), what should I expect? Thanks in advance

The food there is pretty good, Roti Rolls has been there before, and Buchi Kombucha out of Asheville. There is plenty of pizza and stuff as well for folk on a budget, at Wanee this year I had some great lobster rolls as well.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

You are brave. I've had a few "digestive disorders" due to fest food. I won't go near any seafood at a fest.

So I have bad news. Looks like I won't be able to make it to Bear Creek this year. If you know me then you know how much I love this fest and....well....this hurts a lot but a decision had to be made. I'm sorry.

I'm a fan of Tauk and someone just gave me some Jamiroq... I mean, the Main Squeeze to listen to. Good music. I have a few "Springfest" folk coming with me that don't think they like funk and aren't excited about it (other than the "festival without wives or children" aspect). I have no doubt these people have just been neglecting their horn intake and will level off nicely in a few weeks.
Hello everyone. As some may know, we are creating an an interactive art project for Spirit Lake. Which is an area that festival has setup by the lake and will be filled with different styles of local interactive art pieces and such. For this project I have a lot of ideas, but only so much time to get them done. And I have been known to procrastinate. Would any one like to add to this project? We have an idea, each one of you can do at home and bring to the fest.
Tin Can Luminary
Google for instructions or read this:
Find an empty soup can(~15oz size) Draw a design on the outside with a marker, you decide the design Fill the empty soup can(~15oz size) with water place in freezer over night or until frozen, the ice helps the can to keep its shape Use a punch, ice pick, drill, nail starter or anything with a sharp point to poke holes in the can, follow your pattern you drew on before you frozen the can. Bigger holes work better, small holes focusing on detail get lost in the tin, start from the top of the can and work down We will place an LED candle tea light inside the can and place them in our Cosmic Swirl for everyone to see.
We are looking for about 60 of these, not sure how many we have, but it is not 60. PM me with any questions on this or on how you can help. Thanks.

Did you mean for this to go in the Hulaween thread?
