That doesn't look too bad to me, but I'll be in an RV.
Hope you guys can come find us. Friday at high noon I am planning our meet n greet. We will be located behind the amphitheater stage. Look or ask about short cut camp.

I know about the shortcut behind the amphitheater from Spring Fest, so I'll see what I can do to find you guys. Our spots are just to the right of the pier around the lake, just past where the loop road splits from the main road. If you see a bunch of lasers in the trees around that area from tonight to Sunday, there's a good chance that's us.
Quality ass Friday. Floozies were great, then we saw short Umphreys set.. Then Break Science who brought out Talib Kweli, Kris Royal and Eric Blum. Then 2nd Umphreys, Earphunk, Tauk (all great) followed by New Mastersounds who brought out The Heard, Jen Hartswick and Carly hates the dubstep. Only knock was the music hall was too full for The Budos Band, so they stopped letting people in. That sucked because they sounded great from outside. Fun day. VIP is pretty badass with some bars and seating areas for the 2 big stages.

I should have warned you guys to leave Mastersounds early to get in the music hall for Budos. Wish I could be there with you guys right now. Primus is literally the only band that would cause me to miss this festival. With any luck, they'll be there next year.

I'm dying to see Primus at Suwannee, THAT is probably my most desired artist/venue combination on my wishlist
Word. It was a good time and super chill. Of note From my schedule Saturday, Burbridge and Collier Band, Budos Band, Mande Jam, Chris Robinson with Soulive, UM, Lettuce, Tauk and Dumpstajam. Pretty much all of those sets kicked ass. The Mande Jam featured a couple of the guys from West Africa and other assorted musicians. That sounded very very good and came off as honest and playing for the love of music. CR/Soulive played typical stuff but did a nice cover of Gimmie Shelter. Umphreys (this was their 3rd set) was my top set f the wknd. That was particularly good. They brought out half of Lettuce. Damn, I hope someone got that whole set, because I would like to watch it and see if i was just feeling it or I really liked that set as much as I did. Tauk was awesome, and one of my kids threw up the Dumpstajam up as top 2 favorite sets along with Floozies. Lettuce was also pretty spectacular. Damn and I forgot Earphunk. That set blew a lot of people in the crowd away. They are blowing up as more people see them live. That was one of the best shows I've seen them do.
Chilled today since I had to drive back to Pcola, so I just soaked it all in. Caught pretty much everything but St Paul. Dumpstaphunk was really good, covered James Gamg and For the Love of Money. Ended with a kicking version of Put It in the Dumpsta. Yeah, that was good. New Mastersounds also sounded really good although this was more of a set to showcase Sunday guest jams. Finally Lettuce was ripping the **** out of it but we has to bail after about 50 minutes. I assume every artist who was still there probably went up. Hopefully somebody on this thread will recap.
The food was surprisingly good with the best I thought was Funkadelic food truck out of Jville. I got some roasted beet fries along with pork chops with a pumpkin bourbon glaze. Worth checking out if you see them around. What else, oh you don't need it but VIP was worth it. The camping was highly convenient and they gave you a shirt with the logo and lineup, poster, front for Purplr Hat stage and that building and then uphill at the main stage. Mixed drinks were 5 bucks, so you can't hate on that. (We didn't). Super chill kinda small crowd of a few thousand. I didn't see anyone fight, I didn't see anyone run afoul of the law, though you know some people did. I didn't like the separation between the music hall and the grounds which causes you to have to drink everything you just bought before you can continue. But I understand that is usually a licensing/vendor issue, so you grin and bare it.
I will definitely go back to that festival again at some point(s) in the future., l
How was the weather this year? It was actually hot the Saturday night of last year. Chicks running around in bikinis and shit, never seen that before outside of the couple that are too lit up to know better.
I went to Bear Creek in 2010, 2011, and 2013. Hopefully I'll make it back next year but my funds are dedicated to seeing The Dead as much as possible next year, with fingers crossed for four nights at Red Rocks.
Had a great time at this fest =) The more I'm at sosmp, the more I'm loving it! It blows my mind how the staff, crowd and security are so chill and relaxed! Those hammocks at the amphitheater are amazing.
Weather was great IMO. People said they froze Friday but, while the temps. were low, I don't remember much being very cold. I was layered up in long underwear, 2 shirts, a sweater, & a jacket though. Saturday was easily tolerable. Sunday got mid-70s during the day and only slightly cool as the sun went down. I love being able to have open fires. We had a blast and will definitely be back maybe as soon as next year.
Yeah, guessing everything Dead will be giant next year. Initial plans for me outside of friends family and work travel is Buku, Jazzfest, hangout, waka bonnaroo voodoo and with an outside shot of either Aura, Bear Creek repeat or FFF. We'll cross at some of that for sure.
Weather was kind of a surprise. It was brutal Friday night, so I just layered up hoodies and drank whiskey and was fine. Saturday was sunny all day so it felt warm. The wind died down at night, and since it wasn't as cold as Friday, you were already used to it having been worse if that makes sense. Sunday was warm maybe sunny and 70s. Dumpstaphunk, who apparently has played all Bear Creeks mentioned that in their set yesterday as your boy Tony took off his jacket. I got chapped lips and a suntan, so I'm thinking we got pretty lucky. I'll try to get a little more recap and random shit from the weekend when I get the chance.
Jerry's final thoughts: It is refreshing when a festival's douche factor is literally zero. Layout was great. Buffalo Ampitheater is second only to the Satellite Stage at waka for venues I have watched concerts. The forest stage was also cool. The music hall was very country/retro inside and sounded great. And Purple Hat stage was great for sunshine picnics, frisbees, kids whatever. Food options, as mentioned earlier were better than expected. We knew Solar Cafe, so we got lots of their iced coffees and noodles with peanut sauce. There were two places making decent hamburgers. There was a Maine guy who had blueberry pancakes and lobster rolls. A French Fry place with brisket and shit on top. Pizza from South Carolina was very good. There were also plenty of hippie and vegetarian choices.
Grounds were very easy to get around. I only got lost the first night leaving flow tent and ending up on the other side of the park. I was trying to figure out why VIP was in the back for the main stage, and it turns out that was selected for acoustical purposes.
Really cool seeing so many artists at large that we see all the time here just getting down with everyone. Kris Royal must have played 10 sets. And then before you know it, George Porter or Pee Wee Ellis or Bernard Purdie or Jen Hartswick comes up. So many of those people are friends, and coming up on stage to jam with your friends is a giant NOLA tradition, so that stood out. Taz got a little played out by Sunday, but he sounded good with Umphreys and held his own with New Mastersounds. Any 11 year old with that level of guitar talent will be around for a long time. I did not get to see The Heard from Chicago, but their horns were everywhere, and great.
So top shows - I guess I have it Umphreys set 3, Break Science, and either Tauk 1 or New Mastersounds 1.
My oldest had it Earphunk 2nd set, UM 2nd and Soulive with Chris Robinson
Middle has it Floozies, Dumpstajam and Mande Jam
Youngest had it Floozies and Break Science. Jabco's old lady said she was taking Earphunk 2 and Floozies away from the fest which she was very much digging.. I think Jabco told me he had Earphunk 2, Tauk 2 and Break Science.
I saw two nice ladies get engaged on Sat at Lettuce. I hit it hard Fri and Sat but was obliterated Saturday. Apparently my reaction (?) was touching because I ran into both of them yesterday before Dumpstaphunk and they both hugged me and told me how much my being there was special. I remember that going down, but maybe non judgmental normal guy wishing congrats offered some validation? Good for them.
Also the NYC-NOLA heavy lineup of bands and musicians was noted and appreciated.
It is refreshing when a festival's douche factor is literally zero.
love Bear Creek
You know it man. The only almost douchy thing I saw was the Gouda Boys food section. They were barking out heckles and pick up lines for business. So it was all Schtick.

I love seeing all the positive reports back from Bear Creek. I expected nothing less. My only beef is that it sounds like you all missed Orgone. What's up with that?

Right on. We didn't get there until Friday, so we missed the first set. Then the second set was a conflict with Break Science which was too good to leave and a different type of show than I have seen them play in the past. I caught Orgone earlier this year at waka and would have seen them if it wasn't from that conflict.

They were funky as hell! Love those guys. Great weekend indeed, but I think most of you all missed the best set of the weekend. It was Sunday afternoon, not your prime spot, but Chruch for me and us frequent Bear Creekers. I am talking about St Paul and the BB. On my!! I enjoyed this more than I was expecting and I was expecting a lot from these guys. He can sing, indeed, but the band quacking rocked it! And if anybody has a chance to see TAZ, do it. This kid rocks! "Over used" on Sunday or not, this kid kills it.
Thank you Paul Levine for all you do. Hope we get another 8 year run and then some.
I got a couple of shaky clips of Break Science with Kris Royal and Eric Bloom up on YouTube. Here's a short clip of Tauk Set 1 which was a top set. I wish I could have gotten more. I'm still trying to upload the New Mastersounds set 1 clip with George Porter, Jr. and The Heard horns. That looks like it came out good (on the phone at least).
Here you go. A little fuzzy, but New Mastersounds with George Porter Jr. and I think The Heard horns out of Chicago.
