Arctic monkeys was really the only disappointment for me. Maybe it was because I didn't get in the pit, but their new material just doesn't rock as hard live. I saw a much better show from them a few years ago, and I left this weekend wishing I'd stayed at warpaint

I had a really great year, but there were a few minor things.
1) The handicap platform at Kanye. I camped out, had a great spot next to the soundboard. But as soon as the show started, everyone in the handicap section that could stand (no offense), did. And suddenly my spot was worthless. Ended up leaving after about 8 songs to watch the show from the VIP hill. Also Kanye's song selection was a little weak. Did we seriously get less tracks than the X-Games? But I still enjoyed his set. Haters gonna hate.
2) The heat on Sunday. I was running on reserves and watching the Arctic Monkeys drained everything I had left. Broken Bells wasn't happening, so I went to the Bluegrass tent, which was actually pretty great. The Superjam version of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy was one of my favorite songs of the weekend.
3) The insane moshing at the Skrillex Superjam during the A$AP Ferg set. I loved the Superjam. Top 5 of the weekend absolutely. But people in there were not...all there, and what had been a relatively peaceful crowd went absolutely nuts when Ferg came out. I was maybe 8 people back, center stage. My wife and I were immediately pushed forward 10 feet, then backwards about 25. Almost had our legs taken out from under us. Mildly scary moment, especially for her being 5'3. So we stayed through Matt Schultz and Robby Kreiger playing The Doors then headed to catch the beginning of Darkside. I guess I'm mildly disappointed that I missed Lauryn Hill but its not a huge loss.
4) Missing Jack White for an awesome spot at the Superjam. Again, had a great time and I'm seeing Jack White next month. But all reports are that he killed it. Bonnaroo decisions.
5) I don't really have 5. Maybe Elton not being able to hit the high notes like he used to? Or not making it to the brunch (again!)
This was a banner year for me. I saw some of almost everything I wanted. I had next to zero negative experiences with the crowd. The weather was amazing until Sunday. I didn't miss any shows from being too messed up. Awesome, awesome year.

1. Real Estate - One of those situations where I like listening to a band at home, then live they proceed to bore the shit out of me. 2. Die Antwoord - Started late so we had to split to Meshuggah after 2 songs. Came back for "I Fink You Freaky" and decided that I'm kinda over Die Antwoord. 3. Lauryn Hill - While I really liked "Killing Me Softly", the rest of it was ho-hum when I expected greatness.
Those are the only sets I would call "disappointing" that I saw.
Frank Ocean's Karaoke set was disappointing indeed
Yeah, can people explain a little more about this?
I had really hoped to see Frank. Made the gut-wrenching decision to go elsewhere. And now, I hear he played like 10 songs with no backing band? I guess I made the right decision but wtf?

I ended up leaving for Nick Cave after about 5 songs - best decision. Not really much more to it than it was just boring. Channel Orange needs a live band - no other way around it IMO

My biggest disappointment would have to be the crowd at Elton. I moved 3 different times just to get away from people who were not paying attention, talking, or just being plain rude to me! Some dumbass bros literally tried to steal my parrot from my hands and throw it in the crowd for no reason! It seemed to me like no one was singing along, no one was cheering, and no one even cared that we had a legend playing on stage. Thankfully I found some nice folks to watch the show with. Other than that, j Roddy was a little disappointing, and I just couldn't get into Andrew bird. Everything else, and everyone else I met all weekend were fantastic! Especially the great folk in the phoenix pit! Helped me name my parrot, he is now Phil Collins lol
Lauryn Hill. I wasn't feeling it all. I was right up in the pit, like 2 or 3 people back, and I left after maybe 20 minutes. I was just bored, should've gone to James Blake or Cut/Copy. Heard they both killed it. Instead I wandered over to Zedd because I couldn't really hear anything at the tents because they were both so packed. Zedd was also disappointing, but I think it was mostly they crowd. That crowd was annoying as shit.
You left too early. Lauryn Hill was my favorite set of the entire weekend. After they got the sound worked out she was on fire. Her voice sounded amazing, and her energy was great. She did Miseducation stuff, then a few off the Unplugged album, and then all of The Fugees stuff. She did all three verses of the Fugees songs, her part and Pras and Wyclef's parts. It was amazing.

With all this anti-Frank Ocean talk, I'm glad I ended up seeing Nick Cave. My gf was pissed we didn't go to the Skrillex Superjam but I enjoyed just laying down and listening.
1. Polica 2. Washed Out 3. Cage the Elephant (definitely a Which Stage sound issue for me. It happened every time I was viewing from the left side.) 4. The Unlikely Candidates 5. Kanye- I guess I'm just not cut out to see rap music live. The show was too gimmicky for me so I left to rest for the Superjam, which I enjoyed thoroughly.
Frank Ocean was sadly the most disappointing show I saw. I just expected so much more and was hoping for an awesome Pyramid guitar solo that never happened.
Not that I had high hopes, but ZZ Ward was just terrible and I'd love to hear a reason why she is so popular.
Neutral Milk Hotel was amazing. But holy shit, that was the most horrific crowd I have ever seen.
Waited through the end of Jake Bugg after leaving Umphreys, then through Andrew Bird (he suprised me, pretty cool) and was about 6-7 feet from the rail when Jeff came out. During the third song, when the music picked up, people started moshing so aggressively. A lot of people were forcing there way through the crowd, me and others in the crowd were almost knocked over. I was pulled down into the crowd and almost stepped crushed. I remember seeing people who had been waiting near me who I had talked to during the wait fleeing.
Wound up pushed back about 20 feet delirious from all the bullshit. Those people moshing were not fans at all, they were just interested in moshing. For a lot of people (myself included) this was out only chance to see these guys.
I hope everyone involved in starting and contributing to that mosh pit dies in a fire, seriously.
Wait, what was your problem with the NMH crowd? I thought it was one of the best crowds I've ever been apart of

Skrillex superjam for me. I decided to skip Jack white hoping that it would be something off the wall and really interesting, and because I like a lot of the guests, but it started 30 mins late and it was basically another Skrillex set while I was there. I wish I would have gone to see the Flaming Lips.

Where were you at in the crowd. My problem was everything I just described.

real estate... yawn. i had listened to some of their stuff before and thought i would enjoy it.. then it really started to sound like every song was the same.. i was looking at my watch the whole time
skrillex superjam.. it was my #1 anticipated set and i left jack white after 45 minutes (from the pit) to go stand in the back of the tent. waited for over an hour without the possibility of moving up and couldn't see anything. i left after 20 minutes and went to flaming lips.. ended up being my favorite set.
I got all the way up for Polica but it was kinda ruined by all the bros who were waiting for Pusha T. They showed literally zero emotion during her set. I might as well have been up there alone.
Kanye. Enjoyed the set (minus the 30 minute superbowl song and constant interruptions) just had higher expectations with how strong he started. And yes I had a good spot.
1. Kanye - Waited in the pit line for over 2.5 hours just for them to stop letting people in the pit for THE ENTIRE SET. Unless you're VIP of course, then you could just waltz right in. Seeing multiple people leave the pit but them not letting anyone else in was aggravating, especially after waiting so long. Then they didn't have the side screens playing (wtf), and the sound during his set was pretty ehh. Usually the bass from the What speakers moves through you, but I didn't really feel that from his set.
2. Pusha T - Left a few songs in, but his mic kept cutting in and out and it was distracting. Might have stayed if it weren't for this.
3. Darkside - ya'll mofos told me they would sound much dancier than they sound on their album. Nope; shit was boring.
I think those were the only shows that were disappointing for me; overall it was a great Roo music-wise.

Allah-Las, Arctic Monkeys, and Broken Bells were all a little boring to me. I only caught the last two songs of Frank Ocean because I was not leaving Jack White until it was over, but I was disappointed to not see a live band with him.
Lauryn Hill. I wasn't feeling it all. I was right up in the pit, like 2 or 3 people back, and I left after maybe 20 minutes. I was just bored, should've gone to James Blake or Cut/Copy. oh Monie.
token07 and I were middle center for Lauryn Hill and it was utterly tremendous. I haven't posted in the Best Sets thread yet, but she is going to be on that list for sure. I'm sorry you didn't dig it.
1. Pusha T - Clipse is great, his album is great, his features are great, the show was kind of a dud, and the crowd realized it after a while. 2. Bobby Womack - Not at all Bobby's fault. That soundcheck was a fucking nightmare, and put The Other tent behind for the rest of the night. Once he was on stage, it was great, though I only stayed for a few songs because I wanted to get to Damon Albarn. 3. Frank Ocean - I wasn't in the best headspace for this, because I felt like hell, but there just wasn't enough to it. Wise Man was great, though
Where were you because their crowd was insane. They had people crowd surfing almost the entire time, the pit was going nuts, and one guy in the crowd behind the pit crowd surfed on an air mattress. I saw one kid literally climb over the pit rail and get dragged out by like 6 security dudes. I could see people past the sound tent with their hands up getting into it. Their crowd was huge and it seemed like the people getting into stretched really far back. This may have been one of my favorite shows of the weekend. (Granted, I only attended a handful, but it was an amazing set.)
Right outside the pit to the left. The people I was with were jumping and dancing during Dancefloor and I looked around and not a single other person was moving a muscle. Felt awkward like we were out of place and annoying to them. At Music Midtwon last year during that song it was a lot different for me. And thats how that very close section was the whole time. I figured they were just waiting for that song and a couple others but I guess not.
