Where were you because their crowd was insane. They had people crowd surfing almost the entire time, the pit was going nuts, and one guy in the crowd behind the pit crowd surfed on an air mattress. I saw one kid literally climb over the pit rail and get dragged out by like 6 security dudes. I could see people past the sound tent with their hands up getting into it. Their crowd was huge and it seemed like the people getting into stretched really far back. This may have been one of my favorite shows of the weekend. (Granted, I only attended a handful, but it was an amazing set.)
Right outside the pit to the left. The people I was with were jumping and dancing during Dancefloor and I looked around and not a single other person was moving a muscle. Felt awkward like we were out of place and annoying to them. At Music Midtwon last year during that song it was a lot different for me. And thats how that very close section was the whole time. I figured they were just waiting for that song and a couple others but I guess not.
That's weird because I was nearly in the exact same position and saw the opposite.

Wait, what was your problem with the NMH crowd? I thought it was one of the best crowds I've ever been apart of
Where were you at in the crowd. My problem was everything I just described.
Yeah I could've done without the moshing at that set but I doubt anyone was that close just to mosh, those kids were singing every word from what I could tell. Luckily I had already seen them close before so I didn't mind dropping back from the madness. I was thrilled they played April 8th, only the 10th time or so they've ever performed it and it's one of my favorite songs.
But for real, why does this thread even exist? I'm sure there were a few negatives in everyone's weekend but I why even talk about them?
Just wasn't feeling it. I like the albums. This is funny because my wife and I had been discussing how she would sound without that effect that she always uses. Well we found out and it wasn't great. Now I'm wondering why you would use it on every song then you don't use it live.

I had never listened to Polica, but watched 90% of their set while waiting for Pusha T. I went in open-minded but just wasn't very impressed. The songs sounded largely the same to me.
There was only one disappointin' set this weekend and it was Kayne West. My girlfriend and I had no idea he was even on stage fer the first 20 minutes. We thought it was just some weird intro video and a pre-recorded hype track. The lack of the side screens was just idiotic. And the volume wasn't even very loud. I've been able to hear headliners at Camp Inforoo and all I could hear was his bass.
I believe Wolfman Jess said it best in that everyone got what they wanted. His fans got his return, and the rest of us didn't waste much (if any) time at that lackluster performance.

Interesting. I thought Channy's voice was on point actually. I definitely heard the effect in her vocal mix.

I only saw two disappointing sets: Kanye & Broken Bells.
Kanye was disappointing mostly because I was all "give Kanye a chance!" and then we were all the way in the back of the field and couldn't even tell that he was on stage. So we left and got drunk in the brooer's tent. Heard bits and pieces of his rant. So, basically, it was disappointing because of my own decisions.
Broken Bells sounded great, but they were so... lackluster. Just kinda going through the motions. Maybe it was the crowd or the heat. I dunno. They just didn't seem very into it.
Oh, and Lauryn Hill sounded goddamn amazing. Y'all buggin'. My boyfriend had to drag me away to go see Cut/Copy.

I mean, did you really expect flashiness from James Mercer? Or DangerMouse, for that matter? Mercer's never really had much flair and DangerMouse only has it when he's with Cee-Lo

I don't know what I expected, honestly. I just know that, from what I saw, the only person that looked like they wanted to be there was the drummer. The crowd wasn't helping their cause either.

You couldn't have been in the exact same position then. I had at LEAST a 25 ft. radius of very sobering people around me.
1. Kanye - Waited in the pit line for over 2.5 hours just for them to stop letting people in the pit for THE ENTIRE SET. Unless you're VIP of course, then you could just waltz right in. Seeing multiple people leave the pit but them not letting anyone else in was aggravating, especially after waiting so long. Then they didn't have the side screens playing (wtf), and the sound during his set was pretty ehh. Usually the bass from the What speakers moves through you, but I didn't really feel that from his set.
2. Pusha T - Left a few songs in, but his mic kept cutting in and out and it was distracting. Might have stayed if it weren't for this.
3. Darkside - ya'll mofos told me they would sound much dancier than they sound on their album. Nope; shit was boring.
I think those were the only shows that were disappointing for me; overall it was a great Roo music-wise.
. Your comments about Darkside may have put our friendship in jeopardy. I'll give you a pass on the notion that you were looking for a dance party. Most of their songs started slow and built up to a peak, at which point there was plenty of dancing, so I get that. That was just such an intense show, and it's goal was not to have everyone dance the whole time. Perhaps you were in the wrong drugs?

You put that way better than I was going to, my proud, noble Canadian friend. I was just going to tell him to go fuck himself.
Haha well you're right in that I probably should have been at Kaskade, but I really only opted for Darkside because I was told there would still be a bunch of dancing. I guess I was hoping that the peaks would keep getting higher (and maybe they did at the end of the show), but for me as soon as it started getting good and heavy they dropped it back down to the gentler and softer beats. My dancing impulses ended during that set anyway so I'm not too heartbroken about it.
Frank Ocean was the most disappointing set of my life for reasons mentioned above.
There's no excuse for not having a live band.
Fucking awful.
Nobody is to blame but yourself on this one. You should've known Frank O's stage show.
I found his set to be incredible, and a top 3 set of the weekend, personally.
Yeah man, his first show in almost a year, not including his Met gallery set where he had a 30 string orchestra with him, and where every other show he's played he's had a band.
How stupid of me to assume that someone who has always used a band would use one, and to not know his new stage setup even though it's the first time he's ever done it.
1. Sasheer Zamata in the Comedy Tent-just uncomfortably unfunny 2. The Head and the Heart-this was probably my biggest disappointment because their last album was one of my most played of the past year and they were a Top 5 must-see going in. 3.High and Mighty Brass Band 4. Lionel Richie-mainly disappointed in myself for leaving after about 45 minutes, before he played all the songs I wanted to hear (although we were there for "Dancing on the Ceiling, which was great). 5. Disappointed in not seeing The Wild Feathers, ZZ Ward, Real Estate, Pusha T, Jake Bugg, The Naked and Famous, Phoenix, Disclosure, First Aid Kit, Grouplove, Bobby Womack, Cage the Elephant, Craig Robinson and the Nasty Delicious, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lake Street Drive, Yonder Mountain String Band, City and Colour, and The Black Lillies, but that's the nature of the Bonnaroo beast
I didn't even go to this show, but I'm putting Frank Ocean in my #4 slot. I wanted so badly to come home this week and watch videos of his set and cry because I couldn't see him Saturday night. Seriously, no live band? You're billed in the top ten for the entire festival, and you can't even bring a drummer? From the few videos I've seen, it could have been so much more. Extremely glad that I skipped out on his set for the Superjam.
SERIOUSLY?! What was disappointing from Jack White for you?! I LOVED his entire set
For a Bonnaroo set I would have liked to hear a little more White Stripes and a little less solo stuff, but that is a pretty minor complaint really. Definitely not anywhere near making it disappointing. He brought it. Top 5 of the weekend for me.
12 out of 26 songs were White Stripes songs. He has 4 "bands" to pick from.
11/2/19: Tool 5/17/19: Blues Traveler 5/9/19: Tool 11/10/18: Tenacious D 9/20/18: White Denim 7/23/18: Radiohead 6/4/18: Jack White 5/20/18: Tool 5/18/18: A Perfect Circle 5/18/18: Alice in Chains 5/6/18: Blind Melon
1- Cake - nothing to do with them, everything to do with the Which stage. They definitely should've been on What. It was so crowded I couldn't get to a spot where I could actually hear them at an acceptable volume for a live show. Finally gave up after 5 songs and strolled right into the half empty what pit to see the end of Tedeschi Trucks. Definitely should've had them on each other's stages.
2- Pusha T - same complaints as everyone else.
3- Kanye West - I actually thoroughly enjoyed his set and took the rants for what they were and didn't let them detract from my experience. But not being able to see him at all and the fact that the show was a good 12 songs shorter than his tour left me disappointed. But still, as someone who had a bad taste in his mouth back in 2008, his performance was redeeming and enjoyable.
4- Myself for crapping out after Jack White. Really wanted to see Nick Cave, Skrillexjam, and Darkside, plus intended on checking out Mannie Fresh, but just had no energy left and went to bed instead.
That's it though. Pusha T was the only artist I thought put on a lackluster show that I saw of the 39 I was able to attend.
