I'll again post my initial thought on the comparison of the two:
Jack White talked to us. Kanye West talked at us.
I'll also say, when Jack White started ranting, I was def thinking, "Oh shit, Kanye found a way to sneak back up on stage!" As Jack went on, everything he said ended up resonating with me. I felt truly inspired by the idea of collaboration and its purpose within art. Kanye made me feel as if I was being verbally assaulted, regardless of his goal being to inspire.
I honest to god was completely confused as to what was going on and could hear no vocals.
How did Bonnaroo fuck up the sound so bad, where were you sitting? The more I hear about this, the more I think the sound people at Kanye are the main reason those further away just couldn't enjoy it.
This X100000 I was only about half way back on the right side. With the combination of no side screens and the sound being horrible the show was just a let down. Couldn't get into it, and I was really looking forward to his show. I truly think if they had better sound then a lot more people would have enjoyed the show. It's baffling that a premiere music festival couldn't get their shit together for one of the headliners.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Looks like deleted. People quit and come back all the time so I wouldn't be surprised if he returns at some point. Only time will tell.
I almost deleted my account yesterday. No lie.
I can say this knowingly, just walk away. A few more weeks and this shiz will be over with. Time just feels like its dragging because it's so fresh in everyone's minds.
By the middle of July, it'll be back to normal. Pinkie Swear.
I was about to say that you all take this board way too seriously, but then I remembered I almost deleted my account when created the Now Playing Bonnaroo Edition Thread. Holy crap was I mad. I started searching the internet for other Now Playing-like boards to join.

Jack didn't start late. He started at the time that was on the screen, which was 10:45-12:15. He played till 1. Kanye was given 2 hr and barely used an hr and a half as far as I can tell.
He did start late because he was on the schedule for 10:30. I remember because I got to my spot well before 10:30 and when it was almost 10:30 they flashed on the screen that it was now 10:45 and I laughed to myself that it would be like the Kanye 2008 thing where in a few minutes it would say "Jack White 11:00-" and all that. I was annoyed because it was supposed to be 10:30-12:30 with Nick Cave starting right at 12:30 but then they pushed it back and I Got nervous about missing Nick Cave. I even made a tweet about it while standing in the field waiting for him:
He started when the screen said he would but he wasn't originally scheduled for 10:45. So it was a schedule change but a schedule change that took place at the very last minute.
No dog in this fight, but I'd just like to point out Jack's set was listed at 10:45 on the app well before 10:30. To be fair though his set time on the app was changing seemingly on a daily basis leading up to the fest.
The schedule had quite a few things wrong that were updated prior to the fest (i.e. Skrilly superjam location)

I would have been so sad.
I don't even care anymore. Besides, none of the other boards have a Garageland. I couldn't possibly leave.

They announced Lionel Richie playing until 9:45 and Jack White starting at 10:45 before Richie's set started. Still not convenient, though. They need to have a better system for communicating these changes.
I was at the same spot for both West and White (pit in front of the left speakers) and I found White's set much more enjoyable. I agree that it felt that he was talking 'to' the audience and that West was talking 'at' it.
I felt like West was playing a bit fast and lose with the truth when he started saying that Fuck Kanye was when on the Porto's before his set in 08 and that irked me. His redefining 'humble' was amusing. Overall, his set was fine and a huge improvement over 08. I don't know that it would make my list of the top ten headliners, though.
Oh, and quack the schedule changes. I don't know what was going on, but it made Saturday night confusing and difficult.
Yea, this year was worse than most years in terms of "last minute changes" that couldn't be figured out before the schedules were printed. The comedy tent got all screwed up and a bunch of people had no idea about the Frank Ocean/Skrillex changes. Lots of scrambling with the schedule this year.
The James Blake/Lauryn Hill stage switch fucked up a lot of days too.

Oh man that was so messed up but so funny. I went to see James Blake and headed to the other tent. I stood there as they were raising up the sign with the artists name on It and all I heard was the crowd screaming "Yeahhhhhhh!!!!" And then when they saw it said Lauryn Hill it went to "Whaaaaaaattt!!!!!" And you saw people start running around frantically from both tents. It was hilarious. I made it over to James Blake and got the same spot I was in at the other tent right before he came out. But If I had camped for a good spot and that happened I would have been PISSED.
I vote Jack White. I was on the hill for both sets. I think if I was closer to Kanye, I may have been more into it, but in general i felt disengaged. I found myself comparing it to the JayZ set, which I think was way better than Kanye. All I heard about was what an amazing stage/art show his sets are, but it was boring to me at some points. I mean auto tuning they won't let me play in the Super Bowl was kind of lame. I'm not a hater either, I like his music. I went expecting a great show, it just didn't impress me as much. I think maybe i let it get too overhyped by descriptions I read prior. Jack White's set was one of the better I've seen at Bonnaroo. I thought it was very energetic and a great mix of his music. I really enjoyed it. And, I still got to see most of the Superjam...so that was good.
Also--am I the only person that didn't buy his bullshit Southern accent and 'Tennessee, I know you!' bit? Most of us aren't from TN, and you're from Detroit, Jack. I get what you're going for, but it's weird.
Me and CPK were talking about that last night. Of all artists that should know what bonnaroo is about, shouldn't Jack White (who's played the festival a bunchhhh of times) know most people at the Bonnaroo are from elsewhere? Including himself Quit trying so hard, Edward Scissorhands.

Then again, Kanye did ask who all was front out of town.

Well at least he was speaking to the larger percentage of the crowd! He clearly has better manners.

Hahahaha - So glad I'm not the only one thinking he had a Johnny Depp/Edward Scissorhands vibe.
We watched the video last night with our daughter and she said "Why do they all look like vampires?"

I busted out laughing when he brought up Johnny Depp in one of his mini rants. Thought maybe he could read my mind for a minute

lol lots of acts refer to the Bonnaroo audience as "Tennessee". I really doubt that he didn't understand that people travel from outside the state to the festival.
My favorite quote was "This is like China meets the internet all at once" when talking about the chinese lantern floating away. Then him talking about how aliens would come down and see that and try to decipher it as some message.
I think West and White are both equally obnoxious and egotistical.
I think both are brilliant artists.
I think Kanye, however, is saying much more interesting things in regards to race and class and culture, in general. While I love Jack White's music, I find Kanye's music much more interesting and forward thinking.

Id say most of the people at bonnaroo are from tennessee.
I did think, at the moment he said that, he was forgetting about a lot of people in the crowd.

Idk about anyone else but for those few days that im on the farm i am a Tennessean so that shiz dont bother me.
While i enjoyed what i saw of Kanye, Jack's show was much more entertaining for me. The problems I had with the Kanye set had more to do with the sound and the crowd around me that with Kanye.

I know that it's just anecdotal but almost EVERYONE I talked to at every show was from out of the state. I did meet a few tennessee folks but in general there were a ton of canadians and people from the midwest that I met. I do think it's a very mixed group.
