Jack didn't start late. He started at the time that was on the screen, which was 10:45-12:15. He played till 1. Kanye was given 2 hr and barely used an hr and a half as far as I can tell.
He did start late because he was on the schedule for 10:30. I remember because I got to my spot well before 10:30 and when it was almost 10:30 they flashed on the screen that it was now 10:45 and I laughed to myself that it would be like the Kanye 2008 thing where in a few minutes it would say "Jack White 11:00-" and all that. I was annoyed because it was supposed to be 10:30-12:30 with Nick Cave starting right at 12:30 but then they pushed it back and I Got nervous about missing Nick Cave. I even made a tweet about it while standing in the field waiting for him:
He started when the screen said he would but he wasn't originally scheduled for 10:45. So it was a schedule change but a schedule change that took place at the very last minute.
They had 10:45-12:15 on the app for about a week and on the site for a day or 2 before roo. Trust me, I planned around it.
I swear someone said hello North Carolina at the beginning of their show. Either Elton or Lionel.
Not really the same but since I see a lot of shows in Asheville, whenever I am at Bonnaroo I always think that they are say Asheville instead of Nashville.

Fair enough. The app is garbage IMO when on the farm because mine would always take a couple of minutes to "check for updates" and at some points it was taking so long that I cancelled it and used the regular schedule. I had the same issue with Governors Ball and the app they use. Draining my battery while looking up updates. Then, the other annoying thing was using grid view forced you to click in so you could see the timeslot.
So they may have had it before the actual festival but I hadn't noticed it on the site or the app. I was only aware of them lengthening/shortening his set a little while before Roo
That was it! I knew I heard it just didn't remember who said it.
I was under the impression he was telling us that the tambourine thing with the design on it he held up was something he got in North Carolina. I thought he held it up and said "This is North Carolina" and wasn't saying hello to North Carolina. He played NC a couple days before Roo so he may have gotten the instrument there. Definitely was confusing when I heard it but you can kind of listen for it here:
Edit: Yup....on Tumblr someone points out that he's referring to his tambourine that he bought in North Carolina. Better visual of it (and you can better hear him say "Bought this in North Carolina) here:

That makes more sense. I just heard him yell something about NC.

Yea, I was in the pit and only heard "North Carolina" then saw him smile like a child and start making noise with the tambourine. Was thrown off by that as well and didn't think about it until I saw you guys posting about someone saying something about North Carolina lol
Yea, I remember saying his new show is not really a what stage show. Wrong! It was sad how few people were there at the start though. I'm not sure if it the crowd grew because we went into the pit and I never looked behind me.

Same here. I had no intent to see his show but I was in the area and I was able to walk right in the pit. Then I was planning on leaving to see something else but it kept getting better and I couldn't pull myself away. I hope that the crowd improved.
When you listen to the production of Kanye's music, you realize that Jack's music lacks that special sauce, that magic.
But Jack's music seems more simple.
Now to say Jack's music lacks the same production of Kanye's is like pointing out that the sky is blue. Jack White has said in interviews (the one I'm referring to was with Conan O'Brian) how computers make it too easy for artists and he doesn't use much of it. Kanye is obviously the polar opposite. Both artists make incredible music using very different techniques and neither is better than the other because it really is what works best for them.
While Kanye has some sick sick sick sick songs, simplicity is often genius. Just about anyone with fingers can play the main riff for Seven Nation Army, and it's one of the most recognized songs in the entire world. It may actually be the most recognized song in the world. Hundreds of millions of people will likely hear it being chanted at the world cup in a few months. That's real magic right there. I don't think anything Kanye's done really compares in that sense.
As far as their performances, I'm seeing Kanye at MIA fest so I opted for Speedy Ortiz after an incredible but exhausting NMH set so I can't really attest to which was better. Knowing Kanye I'm sure his set was mind-blowing and anyone purposefully ruining the show for others should be ashamed of themselves. Jack White's set was one of my all-time favorites.

I'm so pissed for missing Damon.... I put his new album on on the way down and didn't like it at all, and figured he'd be mostly playing that. Hearing about the show though, I really would've liked to make it. I guess I'm a fool

i was in the pit for both Jack and Kanye. i really enjoyed both sets, but i have to say i liked Kanye's set a lot more. To be fair, i left Jack's set a bit early to get a good spot for the superjam.. i deeply regret it because that tent was already a mad house.

I skipped jack altogether for a good spot at the superjam, and ended up leaving the tent. People were pushing in, and then it started late so all the late comers were pushing in trying to get a good spot before it started. Woof. It was hard as he'll jist to get out of the tent for some room to breathe. It was the worst crowd of the weekend, for me.

I'm back and forth with the new album but I enjoyed those songs a lot more live than I thought I would.

Not completely true, actually. It was in the Bonnaroo newspaper schedule I got Saturday at the beginning of the day.
On my walk back to pod 1 I could hear Damon's set and it really made me regret not seeing the full set. One of a few regrets this year in terms of my scheduling.
