Boyfriend is a local female rapper. She's pretty good and if you are vip it would be worth hitting up at least for a little bit. I wouldn't listen to her in my car or anything but she's pretty funny.
She hypes her website too much www.boyfriend69.com , and her best song was "white chicks and black dudes" when I saw her in Mobile last year.
Buku VIP-only performances on the riverboat were announced today. Any info besides Gravity A and Hermitude that anyone can help with, I certainly appreciate it:
Slow Magic GoldLink Hermitude Bixel Boys Mija Boyfriend Gravity A (performing Talking Heads)
Buku also tweeted out a new Raury song today. Vevo has the official video for 7 Suns where Raury and his gang jack peoples cell phones on the streets to burn them presumably making a statement on iCrackheads. I might try to catch a little of his show as well.

They are my top band. I'd see them every festival/show they play that I can go to,

I don't know. I haven't seen them yet. Maybe they vary it up? If people post their setlists on setlist fm, maybe check that? I'm also assuming that opportunities to switch things up for a shorter, festival type set are probably a bit more limited than a series of club shows. By the same token, it's probably easier for a band that wants to do something different than for a preset dj set with non live sampling. That's an issue for me if I end up digging Gramatik at Buku on his festival tour 2015 since he is at Hangout, Wakarusa and Bonnaroo. I don't want to necessarily see the same show 4 times in 3 months.
Another issue is the volume of material an artist or band has. It would be easier for TV on the Radio who has several albums out to augment sets than someone with limited material (I believe some people in the HO thread referenced Sam Smith). -------------------------------------------------------------- Here is an article from Tulane U's paper (Hullabaloo) with an article on Carneyval. I never heard of him, but he's apparently out of VA Beach and attends Tulane.
Tulane student William Carney to perform at Buku
Carneyval Posted: Wednesday, February 25, 2015 6:05 am | Updated: 9:23 pm, Wed Feb 25, 2015.
Like many Tulane students, William Carney attended Buku Music + Art Project as a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, however, the Virginia Beach, Virginia native will perform at the festival.
“Going from the crowd to the stage is pretty incredible,” Carney said.
Carneyval, Carney’s performance moniker, stretches the electronic dance music genre by adding fresh beats with a commercial appeal. His music has captured the ears of audiences in the Untied States and abroad. During live performances, he plays the keyboard onstage with other live instrumentalists.
“It’s feel-good music that people want to hear and share with their friends, which makes it perfect for live performances,” Carney said.
Since transplanting to New Orleans, Carney’s music has noticeably absorbed some of the city’s signature culture. Carney has attended local live performances, exposing him to more jazz and funk.
“It’s a great place to grow my sound and refine it,” Carney said.
Carney is unique as a young student-musician struggling to balance school and a musical career. On top of attending classes and completing the work, he tries to find a balance and spend the rest of the time in the studio in his house.
“It’s challenging to manage time and delegate priorities,” Carney said.
Outside of performing at Buku, the 20-year-old hopes his career will continue to expand. He wants to keep playing music and be able to financially support myself. In the next five years, he wants to travel more and tour throughout the world.
“My fan bases have been growing,” Carney said. “When people are on the internet, they can find your music from all over in the world.”
He spends all his free time in his studio to produce free new music. He also connects diligently with fans through Twitter. By coming out to Buku, you not only get to see a great performance but also support a fellow peer.
Well it looks like my plans for Buku fell apart my buddy that I was going to go with had something come up with his family and won't be able to make it, and I'm scrambling to convince any of my other friends but it's a little too short notice for them. Hope everyone has a great time and I envy all of you!

A little bit of both lol. If I really wanted to I could get a hotel in Slidell for wayyyy cheaper than in NOLA, but that'd be about a forty minute drive each day which isn't ideal, and I'd be doing it alone which is no fun either haha. That's cool about the birthday though! We'll have to meet up one day at Hangout for a month early birthday beer
They're not hurrying on the schedule, app or food release. I was/am hoping to get 1 of the 3 today. I just went to app store, and only the 2014 version of the app is available. I heard from them on February 5th, when they said the app would be out 1-2 weeks before the event, and it's now 2 weeks. Then they emailed me and suggested I sign up for the mailing list (I was already on it but under a different email). Nothing so far today, but I'll keep checking through the weekend.
EDIT: They tweeted out that the fest is 90% sold out. Sunday at 11:59pm is the cutoff date to have the wristbands shipped to your home else you will have to deal with will call or whatever (which was actually pretty good last year, since they set it up a day early with the problems with the plastic bands).

My wristbands should be waiting on me when I get to the house this afternoon.
I have had mine since the Lundi Gras. I got the email saying it was sent out and when I came home that day it was in my mailbox. I am usually waiting and getting nervous and super late receiving wristbands. This was an unexpectedly nice surprise.
Still nothing new from them except a tweet out on a Die Antwoord official video for "Baby's on Fire." Personally, Brian Eno's Baby's on Fire is far superior. But in the lead-up to the video saying grace at the table, "Thank God for satan?" Good lord!

This'll be my first buku to attend and we got a hotel near by but have since been offered a free stay at a friends house that's about 14 minute drive or 30 minute walk into the fest. What's the parking like around the fest entrance or would we be better off just keepin the hotel?

I come from the westbank and have NEVER had an issue parking within 5 mins of the festival. There is tons of parking. Save your money, stay with your friend and park and walk.

There is paid parking, but it is stupid expensive and no point since there is free street parking less than a block from the paid parking. I am not sure about bike lockups. I would think that there would be, but you might want to remember that this festival gets out super late, and you might not want to be traveling the streets of NOLA, late at night on a bike.
Cool how far of a drive is it in from the West Bank?
10-15 minutes tops, only because I live in Algiers in the westbank, which is right by the bridge. I work in the Quarter too, so Friday I might be going straight from work. I am trying to get off early, but this stupid guestbook isn't making it looking good. Right now, I am playing Friday by ear, but hopefully can get the whole day off like originally planned.
As a guy, you won't likely have a problem on a bike except that probably 50% of drivers here have a minimum of some measurable blood alcohol content at any given time. But you will too which makes it better to bike. Parking in the lot is about 20.00/day (VIP is 10.00). We have always otherwise been able to park within a couple blocks of the fest. So it's really your call if you want to bike or drive.

Okay great well that puts my worries to rest bc I know other fest I've been to like ACL or hangout there isn't really parking around the fest. But if we can get in and park no problem and then a 10-15 minute walk in cool with that if it saves me $600 bucks.

I don't really drink and especially not at festivals, so I never worry about driving. Truth on the shitty drivers and they don't look out for bikers here that well either. Plus, good point, about being the boy thing.

It is NOTHING like the parking issue at ACL, I hate that hill more than anything and walking up it after ACL... dying!

Fuck yeah. Save the cash. Does your friend live in the Marigny Bywater (downriver) or Uptown (Upriver)? Those are most likely from what you said.

famiy friends who own the American Sports Saloon (i call it A.S.S bar) there in NOLA. www.theamericansportssaloon.com/ looks like its off Decatur? They have a guest house above the bar they said i can use.
I haven't been there yet but want to. We don't really have very many good sports bars. They're open 24 hours? That's a pretty awesome area of the Quarter, BTW.
Well ever since I decided I wasn't willing to pay for a ticket, I've avoided this thread. But now I've managed to snag a volunteering spot with HeadCount (not sure which days or what hours yet), so I guess I'll see everyone there!
