As an Ohioan, let me translate. People outside of Columbus, OH do not realize the dedication of the 21 pilot fan base IN Columbus.
They sold 8,000 tickets in Cincinnati where they had people all the way from Texas go and see them. Only point I was trying to make is that they're gonna have a massive crowd at Bonnaroo, but thanks for the Ohio jokes they were funny.
Their fan base stretches beyond ohio. They sold out Tower Theatre in PHILLY in minutes, added a second night and sold it out again. around 10k tickets for two nights. I've seen their sets absolutely packed in delaware (firefly), life is beautiful (vegas) and tennessee (bonnaroo). These guys put on a heck of a show consistently. I can see why the bonnaroo community might not like the music, it can be poppy but the lyrics are pretty deep.
I don't know how you could live in this country, let alone attend music festivals, without knowing who Deadmau5 is. I can understand not being into electronic and disliking him. I can understand liking electronic and disliking him. But, never hearing about him? Come on. Also, Deadmau5 may fucking suck, but making a generalized statement about electronic music as whole based off that hack means you're either closed minded or you never been exposed to anything worth a damn.
Of course you like Mumford and Sons. They can be heard everywhere, from the office party to the Walmart shopping center to the church parking lot. You could make no effort in life to seek out music and have heard that band somewhere.
At this point, it should be a surprise to no one that you are not a fan of hip-hop, let alone one of the best in the business right now. You could have said something about Kendrick's questionable early shows, but let's move on...
It sounds like you know Billy Joel's songs, which, again, is because everybody has without ever even trying. Given that you like the nice, sweet, and safe sounds of Mumford, I would guess you would be excited about a bland classic rock snoozer like Billy Joel, but that is wrong. So, what are you even looking forward to seeing on this lineup?
(Sorry for the long winded response. I'm just taken back by your taste and reasoning. You are new and I don't want to offend you, but you asked me to expand on it.)
What a total asshole response and assumption about someone. He's talking about 4 acts, 2 of which are edm/hip hop and he doesn't know who they are/isn't in to them. Big fucking deal. I think that says a lot about how weak the headliners are. As for liking Mumford, ya apparently pretty much everyone that likes them knows nothing about good music and could only be so lucky to be as smart, sophisticated, and full of themselves as you. Mumford is going to be the biggest show of the weekend, they must suck. And BJ? He's a legend either way, so ya he probably knows of him and can get into the show.

"Someone stole my car radio and now I sit in silence." Very deep. What does it all mean!?
I mean I do like a decent amount on the lineup. There's just not nearly as much as the past two years. Kendrick, Flume, Slayer, Spoon, Atomic Bomb!, Tears for Fears, FloLo, Caribou, Run the Jewels, Sylvan Esso, Jamie xx, Against Me!, Mac Demarco, The Very Best, MadGibbs, Shabazz Palaces, The Growlers, Iceage, Between the Buried and Me, Pallbearer, and King Gizzard are all shows I'm stoked for. I
okay, this is a lot of similar stuff as me. you've probably listened to most of these, but if not give these a try: sbtrkt, odesza, mø, rudimental, jungle, glass animals, royal blood, tycho oh, and earth wind and fire. just because. watch videos.
Never heard of Jungle.. It's my new favorite album.. Time is that song I can't wait to dance to. Every year, there's that one song I wasn't expecting to come out of the woodworks and show me there's always new music to get excited for, and this year, Jungle did it for me starting with "Time". Thursday is looking great so far with Jungle, Temples, King Gizzard, and The Growlers. I'm more excited then 2 years ago with Django Django and Alt-j and they were great!
Belle and Sebastian, STS9, Punch Brothers, and Gary Clark Jr. Wasn't feeling any of them
Gary Clark Jr. is best when seen live. I had the same initial feeling listening to just a few tracks but live he's killer.
Punch Brothers are too. They are fantastically talented at what they do.
A big portion of this lineup is like that this year. I feel, it's a very mature year. It is always going to be a lineup with all types of music, but this year is filled with a bunch of acts that are either better live or better appreciated once you get into them more. Even Billy Joel isn't getting the recognition he should be.

well that lyric specifically is to be taken literally. someone actually stole his car radio, but it sparks conversation of your own thoughts. without the radio in the car, you're forced to think.when so many people just live routinely and aimlessly. But then again, music is all about personal interpretation.
So, like, who do you like? Because if you can't find something between the acts you do know and those four, I'm afraid you might not like music... Sorry if I'm breaking the bad news. :/

you may want to try Atmosphere. I don't see much about them here and I don't know why they are so highly billed as they've been firmly underground their entire career, but I think they have the best hip hop discography on the lineup. If you haven't listened, the three albums I'd recommend are You can't imagine How Much fun were having, when life gives you lemons..., and god loves ugly. A few songs I love include Modern Man's Hustle, Smart Went crazy, the waitress... one from each of those albums. I understand if you started your journy at the wrong spot with this group it can lead to a huge snoozefest, but there is some bigtime quality in there I promise.

I'll check them out. I remember I listened to their release from last year but I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. Thanks for the recommendation
Here's the best way for me to put it: There are a lot of enjoyable acts on this lineup and I'm sure I'd have fun seeing plenty of them live. However, there isn't much I've fallen in love with. I haven't discovered anything on this lineup that would be in my musical rotation if they weren't at Bonnaroo.
I like Jungle, Iceage, Shabazz Places.
Previous to the lineup, I had already really dug MMJ, Spoon, Mac, Caribou, RTJ, Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick, Robert Plant. Caribou is probably my only can't miss, but he's Sunday, so my dreams of dancing to "Cant Do Without You" at a Bonnaroo late night are crushed.
Everything else is just "cool" to "meh". Plus the acts I do really want to see will inevitably conflict. I'm 50/50 on attending right now.
We can argue about Belle and Sebastian all day, but like I said, between the acts he does know and those four, I don't get how there isn't anything for him. His list I guess cleared that up. Although that was a pretty stange list for people to "get him to go."
Not really, considering those are the four best acts on the lineup
Well, that's a rather general statement. Care to expand on that a little.

I'm so glad that the authority on all that is music was here to set me straight!
Seriously, though, what's with the derogatory tone? I'd never take that tone with anyone on here over a difference in opinion of musical tastes or knowledge.
Furthermore, you made several assumptions that were just off the mark. Regardless, I was just commenting on the four headliners, which is the discussion I was replying to at the time. Anyone that knows me knows that I am anything but "closed minded" when it comes to music. With that said, I can't exactly make myself like something. It doesn't work that way for me, or, I would assume, for anyone else. And I'm not going to pretend to like something just to impress a certain person or group of people.
As for what I am looking forward to seeing on the lineup, I am looking forward to Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Sturgill Simpson, Gary Clark Jr, Ben Harper, Benjamin Booker, Brandi Carlile, Dawes, Trampled By Turtles, Woods, Royal Blood, Rhiannon Giddons, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The War On Drugs, Spoon, Punch Brothers, Hozier, Slayer, Atomic Bomb, Robert Plant, Shakey Graves and, yes, Mumford and Sons.
The performance snafus aside, the fact that he didn't perform any new material is a little concerning.
I'm gonna go ahead and say that shaun white was too busy fawning over his new girlfriend sarah barthel to actually have any idea what was going on.
but really, though. I watched the air+style snaps that day, and that crowd all looked about 19 & under. so that alone made me scared for what this fest would be. it sounds like it was a lot of disorganization that fucked up his set. so let's just hope for our sake, and even more so for kendrick's sake, that this was not a preview for what's to come.

Hoping for an Atmosphere timeslot that is worth it. I feel they are gonna throw Atmosphere in an afternoon slot, and that would suck.

You like "Boring" music. That is a term used around this board to describe modern Americana/Roots Rock and has actually been embraced by many Inforooers who enjoy that style of music. As much as I think that style is uninteresting, you are absolutely free to listen to whatever the hell you want. I acknowledge that my reply to you was somewhat d*ck headed, but I still do not understand how you've gone through life without ever knowing who Deadmau5 was. While the Deadmau5 thing, your description of headliners, and your original top 10 list support my theory of you being a sheltered music listener, I can tell by your updated list above that you have started to listen to some good stuff outside the boring music realm. Discovery and broadening your tastes are some of the beautiful things about music festivals. Again, I am making d*ck head assumptions. However, in the end, it really doesn't matter what I think of your listening habits. I hope you enjoy the festival and I will see you at King Gizz.

I'm actually hoping for a "bad" time slot. They'd lose out in late night conflicts for me. I dont think I need darkness for that set.

I edited my question, as it wasn't worded right. I've heard a lot of ho hums mostly because they didn't have new material or their 2nd album wasn't as strong.
