The what stage is at least 30 feet off the ground and it is a horrible angle from the pit. Saw lots of people with vertigo and neck problems. And the overcrowding and crushing concerns are real.
Go to the pit if you want but only if you have good insurance and are fine missing the rest of the weekend while in the medical tent.
After reading this, I may try to get right behind the pit.
This is a very distinct possibility for me as well. If i can get some 25-30 yards away and see everyone without waiting in line all day, I'm down!

We had to bail on the What Pit for Robert Plant & TBoJ because my friend didnt have his EpiPen and with all those damn bees we just couldnt risk him meeting almost certain death.
Being in the pit can completely change your view on a show due to the fact that you're in there with, usually, a bunch of hardcore fans of that act. Last year, we got into the pit for Kanye and the energy in there was unreal. I thought he killed it and everyone enjoyed the show, it wasn't until after when we started talking to people that we found out some people thought the show sucked. I plan on trying to get in there for Deadmau5, which along with Mumford, I think will be the hardest pits to get into for the fest.
Kinda want to get pit for deadmau5, but I'd fine being close to the pit to see all the lights and production.
this is my exact thoughts for this show. i wanna do pit, that will mean a lot of waiting and possibly not getting in. prolly just try to score a decent spot as the kendrick crowd leaves

Thats my plan. I think the Mau5 line will be filled with alot of people who dont know how capacity works and unnecessarily long. Im assuming alot of people are going to be around for Kendrick > Mau5, but im gonna get a good spot for Kendrick and work forward from there.
MMJ is the show I really want to get into the pit for and I was thinking I would go straight to the line from The War on Drugs. Hopefully that is early enough.

Is which stage pit similar to the what stage pit? I've been in what stage pit 3 times but never which. Is there a line on both sides or just one? How big is it? Should I get there fairly early or is it pretty easy to get into? I'm trying to get in it for childish gambino.

Its a good bit smaller but I got in for Cake last year and showed up just before the set. You have to line up on the left side (if you are looking at the stage) the right side is VIP. No idea how big Childish is but I would think that if you got in line before the act before him goes on you should be fine.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Guys, I'm really set on doing War on Drugs on Saturday. If I do their set and then get to the what pit line at 6 as Hoizer ends, what are my chances for getting into MMJ?

I am trying to do the same thing Saturday and hope that getting to MMJ an hour early will be enough to get in.

This is my plan too if you need a buddy.
I've never done What Pit before and I really want to do it for MMJ and have been yammering about it since the lineup came out.
However, this is giving me cause for pause:

I've been on the rail for MMJ shows at OBH1 and NOLA Jazzfest (but not pit) and the views and energy for both of those experiences was great. I've been at varying closenesses at previous MMJ shows both at Roo and locally and always had incredible times, so I'd hate to put in the effort to get Pit and end up wishing I could see better in the field.

I'm just worried that if I get in line and then get rejected then I won't even get a decent spot with everyone else in the general area outside the pit and I'll be banished farther back than I would have gotten if I didn't even try for pit at all. So it's a gamble to me. If someone on here who did MMJ pit in 2011 could clarify the chances that'd be awesome possum.
My thinking is that MMJ may not have a huge crowd this year with only a 1.5 hour set and with so many other good acts going on during their show and the What Pit is pretty large.

Florence! Most of the time I can't be bothered with the pit, but she's so spectacular. She's also still early enough on Sunday so I won't miss too much while waiting, I can listen to Spoon and try not to pee my pants. Woot.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

If the folks around here are any indication, it looks like Atomic Bomb is going to be a huge show going on at the same time in the tents. That might improve some of our chances. This is the only show I'm planning on pitting so I'll be a little heartbroken if it doesn't happen.

I was in the pit for Childish in 2012. From what I remember the line was long. Last year at Firefly I had a friend that waited up front for him at the rail most of the day and apparently the crowd was awful. If you don't mind people beating eachother up this pit could be for you.
also worth noting I enjoyed his set from afar in 2014 way more than in the pit in 2012.

They're not.
I can't hear your truth over the sound of my ignorant optimism!

Anybody do MMJ pit at Roo '11 and wanna comment?
My exact thoughts but for Mumford. I was thinking maybe pit for Hozier, line for pit during MMJ so I can be pit for Mumford. Worst case scenario i get center field against the rail that is the Pit
When they played in 2013 they played at The Other Tent on Thursday and it was packed. They have Blown Up since then and it should be a good show. They probably drew 5,000-10,000 for their Firefly set last year
I was there in 2013, didn't think they released anything or blew up that much since then, but I'm apparently very wrong.
I'm a fan and I'm even surprised to see them on What. I didn't realize they had gotten that big either. They have new material coming next month, but nothing other than that since their last Roo playing Other.

I am a fan too ( Which probably makes me public enemy number 1 on here as I like Mumford too), but they played Main Stage at Firefly last year and just sold out 1 show in DC. I fully expected them to be on Which stage myself. Im perfectly fine with them on What

I haven't been crucified for my musical tastes on here in a while, so to quote one of my FAVORITE female singers..."haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate" ;-)
The only times I've ever been in the pit was when I walked right in about 2-3 songs into a set. There has never been a time that I wanted to get in to the pit of a show that already started, and it was full. I think the only time I've ever seen a pit get filled to capacity was for McCartney, but I wasn't trying to get in that one.
I'm going to try to get pit for Ben Harper - I might actually wait in line for that one. Brandi Carlile or Flo&TM are pit-worthy to me too!

The pit is great for the acts that nobody actually wants to get in the pit for. When you can just stroll in and not have to wait in line or anything is terrific.
