Questions: Do you guys think it would be possible to do both Dawes and Alabama Shakes, which are consecutive shows on the What? If not I'll do what I did for Friday last year and just hang out at the front of the non-pit crowd at the What for most of Friday. I also want to do the War On Drugs > MMJ pit so I'll join any of the others who mentioned that, but after leaving the pit, could I still get a decent spot for Mumford?
The only time I was in the pit was for Jack White and I kind of snuck in line because I had friends who had been waiting a while (sorry everyone, I know I suck), so I'm not sure exactly how early to get in line. Also the What stage is not 30 feet off the ground, that's ridiculous. Yes it's a little high, and I could see it being an issue if your neck or back is already kind of bad, but I had no problems with Jack.
I just want to be as close as possible and have a good view and time. For McCartney/Jack White/Macklemore we were about 75 -100 yards away. Im hoping to get either in the Pit or about 25 yards aw

I've never been in the Pit at Bonnaroo. At the What I go left side and can ALWAYS get right up front, which is close enough for me. Which is easy to get up front for as well.
The pit is great for the acts that nobody actually wants to get in the pit for. When you can just stroll in and not have to wait in line or anything is terrific.
Call me crazy for asking, but any chance this will be the case for Billy Joel? My reasoning is from what I hear, people are going to see him more for the novelty of seeing him rather than for being hard core fans that HAVE to be in the pit like there will be for Deadmau5 and MMJ. Just asking cuz I plan on being in the pit for Plant as well and I need to be close for my yearly dose of Bonnaroovian old white artists.
Anyone who has waited in line for the pit help me out with a question. If you get to the front of the pit line can you tell the people behind you to go ahead of you? Say I am in the pit line during Dawes on Fri night but I really want pit for Alabama Shakes, can i let the people in line behind me go ahead of me so that I can guarantee to be the first in the pit for Shakes? Just curious as to if this is allowed and/or would work
Guys, I'm really set on doing War on Drugs on Saturday. If I do their set and then get to the what pit line at 6 as Hoizer ends, what are my chances for getting into MMJ?
100%. OK maybe 99% barring extreme unluckiness. I've never not gotten into a pit that I tried to get in at Roo, and I've probably seen somewhere around 15 sets from the pit. (Also, I'm not a dick and shove in line like I've seen people do before). I can think of only one time where I was heading to a pit line and decided the line was too long when I got there. That was Tom Petty in '13, and that was only 20~30 minutes before the show. Thing is, I think if we had tried to, we still might have gotten in, the What Pit is huge and people underestimate how many people can truly get in there. TWOD ends 75 mins before Jacket starts, you should (and will) be absolutely fine.

good question. they solved this a couple years ago because Roo originally had just one line for the pit. And it would get all sorts of clusterfuckedup with the type of situation you are talking about. Over the years they have gotten better at the pit line process. What they do now is have multiple lines for different shows. So when you walk up to the pit line(s) there might be more than one, just ask the people in line which show they are waiting for, choose the appropriate line and "boom!" your in the pit.

The what stage is at least 30 feet off the ground and it is a horrible angle from the pit. Saw lots of people with vertigo and neck problems. And the overcrowding and crushing concerns are real.
Go to the pit if you want but only if you have good insurance and are fine missing the rest of the weekend while in the medical tent.
30 feet? Is that legit or an exaggeration?
That seems ridiculous. Three stories off the ground?
1/30: Cold War Kids
2/6: Cherub
4/22: The Mountain Goats
5/25: Laura Jane Grace "Killing Me Loudly"
5/31: The Decemberists
6/11-6/14: BONNAROO 2015
6/28: Against Me!
6/30: Against Me!

So someone mentioned that Mumford's pit will be one of the biggest of the weekend. I have a feeling Florence + the Machine will give them a run for their money. They've pretty consistently had the second most adds on thew website and I think if she's back on her feet by Roo, they'll probably have the most worthwhile pit show. Which is a bit of a bummer because I want to see at least part of Brandi Carlile, but I probably wouldn't be able to if I want to get in Florence's pit

Never tried to get pit before. If I got to the line like 20 mins into Alabama Shakes would I be able to get in for Kendrick?
What you need to remember isn't so much the TIME you have to wait in order to get a spot, so much as you need to remember how the SIDES work. Both sides suffer from the bee issued alluded to earlier in this thread. The lines and times are thus mostly obviously dependent on how this all works out. Food for thought anyway. Its worth doing your research IMO...
I may try to get that rail spot on Friday to see how the view is and then get pit for Trampled by Turtles to see that view. That gives me Hozier to decide. Regardless we are camped at What all of Saturday so I will have plenty of time to judge what to do
I've never done What Pit before and I really want to do it for MMJ and have been yammering about it since the lineup came out.
However, this is giving me cause for pause:
I've been on the rail for MMJ shows at OBH1 and NOLA Jazzfest (but not pit) and the views and energy for both of those experiences was great. I've been at varying closenesses at previous MMJ shows both at Roo and locally and always had incredible times, so I'd hate to put in the effort to get Pit and end up wishing I could see better in the field.
Anybody do MMJ pit at Roo '11 and wanna comment?
My exact thoughts but for Mumford. I was thinking maybe pit for Hozier, line for pit during MMJ so I can be pit for Mumford. Worst case scenario i get center field against the rail that is the Pit
If I was in the pit for MMJ, would my spot for Mumford be terrible? Or is there a way to get a good spot after leaving?
Probably not, you'll have to exit the pit after MMJ and get in another line for Mumford. I imagine Mumford is going to have a line forming hours before their start time.

But if I wasn't trying to get in the pit for Mumford, what kind of spot in the normal crowd could I get?

This makes me think getting right on the rail between the pit and the field a better idea as time goes on

You could probably still get a somewhat decent spot. Since there will still be an hour before Mumford starts you'd have time to work your way for a closer spot. In my experience an hour before shows is when people start heading in so I think you'd be okay.

Yeah when there are back to back shows I want to see I usually just find a decent spot to hang for a few hours. I've walked in the pit with no lines for a few shows early in the day but the only time I actually wait in a line is for late night. There's usually too much going on in the day for me to want to wait 1hr+ to get in the pit for a band but for the right show I'd probably do it.
